Hi all,

I'm having a very annoying tech problem when running W&W. It's like this : Whenever I start the game I get a message that Deep6 has made an illegal operation. I close that window and another one just like it pops up. The whenever I get the loading screen before a new area I get those 2 screens again and when I exit the game -> the same thing. It does not affect the game play however but it is truly irritating. Has anyone elsed experienced this? Any solutions?

Thx

We need som emore information I think. What OS are you using? Version of directx? The first thing that pops up in my mind is to try the patch. I know it has resolved some deep6 issues. Perhaps it will help you as well.

I've installed the patch already so that wont help.As for my system specs :

AMD Athlon 533 mhz
312 MB of RAM
8 mb video card
Windows 98
cable internet connection

Need more?

What other things do you have running? It may be a conflict between some other TSR programs*. Did this suddenly start happening, or has it been going on for a while? You might want to look at anything else in your system that may have changed, or perhaps even to reinstall W&W (saving the roster.dat and sav files that Willow will confirm).

I run on Win98 with the patch and have not had any problems. 'Course, that doesn't help you much, other than to say it's possible...

Hmm, win98 and the patch should be the most stable combination. Does it just say 'deep6 has made an illegal operation'? Or is there any explanation? You could try:

1) increasing your swap file (how to do that is in the tech thread) to at least 300Mb
2) deleting all files from your 'windows\temp' directory
3) run a complete scandisk
4) run a defrag
5) shut down all background applications except systray and explorer
6) as Bungleau said, re-install (try a full install if you have the space)

It's been going on from the very first time I played the game. Installing the patch had no effect whatsoever and I did do a full install. AS for reinstalling => What files do I have to save to keep my savegames?

Thx

You need to backup your saved games, the files from your saved games folder and your 'roster.dat' file. Then you can uninstall the game safely. Try to do a scandisk (a complete one) before installing again. If you install over a faulty cluster you will encounter problems all the time.

What version of DirectX are you running?

DirectX 8.0 Dutch version.

Bungleau 03-02-2003 10:48 PM

Hmmmm.... Directx 8.1 may help (that's what I'm running now, but the US English version). Also, take a look at any other things that you've got running. What's in the task list when you do ctl-alt-del?

Yes an upgrade to dx8.1 might do some good, BUT then you need to upgrade your drivers to match your dx upgrade. So check for the latest drivers (who probably will be made for dx8.1 compatibility).
