As you will probably have gathered from my previous posts my solution to almost every problem in the Gael Serran is stacking crates. Lately the stacking of crates, chests, and other furniture to reach otherwise inaccessible places has become quite an obsession to me.

Well, yesterday evening I was at it again, and I just thought I would let all you fine ladies and gentlemen in on my lack of findings.
When walking around the main building of Shurugeon Castle the innermost part of the building is always out of the party's line of sight and thus does not become visible on the map. As a result of this the spirit eye spell will not reveal anything that might be on top of the roof. I found it virtually impossible to jump from the castle walls to the main building - even with a couple of chests extending from the wall to narrow the gap. (Possibly some bug at work). So I had to stack crates from the ground to the roof. And still the last part of the way from the top crate to the roof was very difficult to jump. Finally I made it and accessed the roof, walked around for a bit, and found - as I said - nothing whatsoever.
Also when I first completed the game I gained access to the balcony above the pool just inside Shurugeon Castle by way of stacking. There was nothing up there either.

I just thought I would let you know.

Bungleau 02-27-2003 11:02 AM

I'm impressed! I'd stacked crates to get to the balcony inside the castle before, but never thought to climb on top of the place!

I wonder what other areas you'll be able to get to... hmm....

Wyvern 02-27-2003 12:16 PM

Oh you can go a whole lot of places! I'd been all over SH. Castle and Serpent Temple. Never did get on top of Skull Castle though. Rather fun that you can get to these unusual places even if there isn't anything particularly interesting to find. The view is great! :D

*cough* Could this be a way to bypass Anephas shrine? Instead of entering it you can simply walk on top of it. Has anyone tried that yet?

Keep us posted on your stacking bsftcs.

Bungleau 02-27-2003 01:10 PM

I'm *ahem* thinking it might be a way to bypass Dragonspire... Grab all those unopened chests, crates from Erzebette's house, and so on, and away you go!

Maybe Lady Tigra will do a solo encore just to see... but Missy's got to finish things up first

And perhaps even a *cough* shortcut past the oracles. Of course you would need a good many chests. Of course you wouldn´t have to complete any quests in the game this way. Well maybe one or two. ;) :D

LiOnHe@rT 02-28-2003 09:45 AM

WHOA! bsftcs the all-famous LOCATION CLIMBER! :D
but by pulling all the crates form erzebette's house and anywhere else, isnt that gona be extrememly TIRING??? i mean, dragging stuff from halfway through the Gael Serran is gona be weird right  ???

Bungleau 02-28-2003 09:50 AM

What? You don't have Create Portal and Teleport? My, my, my....

Hmmm... I wonder if the crate comes with you if you're carrying it? Gonna have to try that soon.

Otherwise, yes, it will be a lot of running around... but still less, potentially, than going through the dragonspire.

bsftcs 02-28-2003 11:27 AM

In fact I jumped from the wall to the tower of Shurugeon Castle, threw out all the items of furniture from D'Soto's room, and then started stacking them.
I believe if one had the patience, one could sit around and wait for a bird to fly over the particular place one wanted to gain access to, cast the create portal spell on the bird and then teleport to the portal once the bird had left the spot. That has helped me when in water: cast the spell on a fish and then teleport there. Also with the help of roaches and rats one can easily bypass gates.

Bungleau 02-28-2003 12:14 PM

Really? I always thought that the portal had to be cast on a character, and then teleport cast on that same character.

You've just opened worlds of possible experiments! Talk about a "Get Out Of Jail Free" card!

I can hardly wait until tonight!

bsftcs 02-28-2003 01:53 PM

No I have been able to cast the spell on everyone. The teleport spell can also be cast on anyone. I once managed to teleport Raskalion up right in front of Brinbath and kill him there, but that gave me nothing. Unfortunately spells do not work in the Boogre Prison.

I guess that the teleport spells might in some circumstances be useful when used together with the "summon creature" and "summon fiend" spells to have someone to cast the "create portal" spell on.

Also if one teleports other NPCs to the bottom of the sea they just remain there and do not drown.

Hey... does that mean you can teleport the leprechaun to the bottom of the sea and he'll stay in one place so you can kill him?

Just wondering....

Amazing that after all this time, I'm still learning new things about W&W!!

Hang on!

Does this mean that when you are in boogre prison you can teleport to where the witch lady is and stop her from turning you to boogres?????

That would be very nice

Cheers,

Moiraine Sedai

Bungleau 03-01-2003 10:40 AM

With her, perhaps not. Last game I tried casting all sorts of spells on her, and nothing worked.

Of course, I didn't try teleport... which wouldn't work to get rid of her. But neither did I try creating a portal and teleporting to it.

Hmmm....

bsftcs 03-01-2003 10:44 AM

Sorry to disappoint you. As I wrote earlier all spells are disabled when the party is stuck in the boogre cage.

bsftcs 03-01-2003 10:48 AM

Oh, and by the way... As to bypassing the Dragon Spire and the Caves of Ishad N'ha: Is it not possible to bypass those places using the fine art of "tree surfing?"

WillowIX 03-01-2003 10:59 AM

Well stacking would ne a new nifty way to do it. ;)

All spells do not fail inside the boogre prison. If you enter the backway Radek had some excellent tips and pointers about spells. He did wirte a solution I believe. And he also posted some statistics about spells inside the prison. I wouldn´t try to cast teleport on our dear witch though. That could probably cause some severe problems with the programming. ;) (I think Radek said something about NOT talking to her when entering the backway)

bsftcs 03-01-2003 11:15 AM

Does that mean one CAN actually cast spells when stuck in the cage? (I am referring only to the cage that one is plunged into when entering the Boogre Caves). I had my spellcasters throwing everything I had at Skeser'Da until she had cast her spell and left, and all of the spells just fizzled.

Ahh. I see. Well, inside the cage it seems impossible to do anything. There is a reason for that. ;) But when walking around inside the Boogre prison you are capable of casting spells. The cage is the exception.

Wyvern 03-01-2003 12:24 PM

Okay, I'll give you good folks a chuckle about stacking crates and chests.

One game after I had fallen into the Boogre cage I got the "brilliant" idea of making a ladder to climb out the way I had fallen in. So I spent some time gathering the necessary stuff, stacked it up very nicely, rearranged things to make it easier to climb, climbed up to find ...
the floor/ceiling was closed and I had wasted my time. ;)

Well... I created a portal on the pier of Brimloch Roon and lo and behold, the Leprechaun ended up there and was killed quite easily as he couldn,t leave the pier.

The thing is though, apparently the Leprechauns stick does not count as proof of him in the guild, so does it have any purpose other than a trophy?

C

Bungleau 03-01-2003 03:56 PM

The leprechaun's stick is nothing but a weapon. The proof that Miruth is seeking is in a chest that you'll be able to find after you meet Kerah next.

And I'm going to try that teleport thing! Missy has a real anxious bone to pick with him that will be revealed in a chapter or two, and which I finally can see the funny side of

bsftcs 03-01-2003 04:45 PM

Oh yes, the leprechaun makes an excellent victim for the teleporting trick. Also: Teleporting Mekdawa to the basement of the windmill is an excellent way of keeping him within talking distance. (Of course one usually only has the necessary spells so early in the game if playing with characters who have the experience from a previous game).

bsftcs 03-03-2003 09:34 AM

Just to round things off: The Caves of Ishad N'ha cannot be circumvented by way of tree surfing. The cliff is too steep and blocks off all access from the tree tops. I tried it yesterday evening.
