Our dear moderator Wyv is the expert hacker in this forum. She has a thread somewhere about editing save games with a hex editor. IŽll see if I can drag that one up for you And here it is: http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/cg...c;f=4;t=007364

I've always used HexEdit to hack save files. Basically you're just altering the data being saved, not actually programming so you don't need to use a programming language such as C++.

thanx people...i figured that i could do the same thing with visual basic because i remember something with wyv talking about 01 and 05 and a whole mess of numbers and when i opened one of my save files up with visual c++ i got the same thing so i wuz just wondering if i could hack without the hexedit...anywayz thanx again

Actually, what you're opening them up with is a C++ editor, and not with C++. I strongly suspect that if you save it with that editor, you will be unable to use the savegame -- it will be saved as text, and not as the hex data it was.
To edit and save them safely, you really need a hex editor. [ 11-14-2002, 01:22 AM: Message edited by: Bungleau ] |

Try looking for a hex editor at:

LOL!!!
Have fun hacking but remember to BACK UP YOUR SAVE FILE FIRST!!!! Always make a back up, always always always!! :D Wyv |
Yes i know that i have to ALWAYS make a back-up file...i've read too many posts where people didnt make a back up file and had their save disappear forever with no chance of ever getting the game back...Time for the real killing to begin...heheheehehe..
Question though...has anyone ever been able to actually "make" a new weapon as in a new design, new special effect (such as deathstrike, sleep, etc), or anything to that extent? |
