After a heated debate, the Baldur's Gate Senate, parliament of the city and advisors to the Grand Dukes, permitted Mr. Baggins to start a project in the area now known as Area 51. The aim was to investigate to what extent kobolds, quite possibly one of the more misunderstood races in the Sword Coast, could be integrated in our society.
The project failed miserably, however, when Mr. Baggins disappeared without a trace. The kobolds and men selected to be part of the project were massacred during an attack on area 51, and those responsible have so far eluded the grasp of the formerly secret Senate Special Department. Before investigations could be completed and justice meted out to the guilty, we met with another disaster: the old thread reached 300 posts and it is in everyone's interest to stop posting there. Newcomers will likely not want to plough through all those pages to catch up, so as chairman of the Senate I'll start work on a summary containing the major details of the case. I'd have my secretary do it, but my current one is missing and likely either dead or on holiday. Now, where were we? [ 04-15-2003, 05:44 AM: Message edited by: Legolas ] |
And who does the esteemed Legolas have for a secretary??? Bertha Jorkins???
|
Well, to be honest, the chairman has no idea. There've been a number these past years, and I don't look at the names too much. As long as their references are okay... ;)
Of course, the other councillors have no need to know. Hey, is this microphone still on? Doh! |
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGG GGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!
*runs from thread* [remember, while it is okay to love your kobolds, it is not, however, okay to *love* your kobolds] |

Personally, I wouldn't be seen dead with one. |
Dragonshadow I should hope you wouldn't be seen dead with one. It wouldn't look good on your resume as a warrior/mage/priest on the Sword Coast. Personally I put my first kill in my trophy room, and the 150+ others are either in storage or have been converted into torch holders around my estate. I've also entered into the project of using their hands for goblet stems. However, they could be useful alive as a beginning warriors training dummy. They fit the role quite well.
|
I prefere to turn them into little satues by petrifying them when dead...
I just realized that a whole lot of people are going to be coming at me for Cruelty to Kobolds now.. Oops [ 04-14-2003, 04:29 PM: Message edited by: Dragonshadow ] |
Like who? The Humane society can't come after you, because they aren't animals. And HRS can't come after you because they aren't human. And the Kobold Support Society has no official status on the Sword Coast. If anybody has something against the way I handle kobolds I'll simply take them on a tour of my warehouses until they faint or lose their lunch.
|
I say that the lack of support for kobolds mandates a Kobold massacre before this Mr. Baggins returns
|
LOVE (Lots of violent emotion)
|
I take it this means that we hate kobolds?
|
See it is this kind of bigotted attitude that I have been trying to put a stop to for all of this time...I swear, if you people used your heads half as much as your sword arms the Sword coast would be a better place for al of those who inhabit it. After all, let us think of alternate jobs for all supposedly "evil" critters of the sword coast...Xvarts could be cattle ranchers, Winter Wolves could cool our homes in the warm months, Orgillions could use their immense strength to power mills forever freeing us from dependence on the wind or water to grind our grain. Sirens use their call during trade negotiations with foriegn powers guarenteeing that things are in our favor...These are all noble pursuits that should have been implemented years ago but NO....WHY???? because every hothead with a sword has been chopping these creatures up with such abandon that it is no wonder that they hate humans and attack us on site...Can we not try to make peace with our neighbors and see how in that peace we may benefit each other?
|
Baggins, even an evil person is convinced their ideals are noble. Only good person is correct in this opinion for even 50% of the time. And only a wise person can see that nobility is an illusion we create in order further the ultimate illusion of civilization.
|
Mr. Baggins, Firestormalpha is right.
And I object to you calling winter wolves "evil". They are lovable critters who never hurt anyone. I should know, i have one. |
Hear hear, Mr. Baggins. And welcome back from your 'adventure'. Again we are united in our fight against the bigotry displayed by every sword for hire along the coast. I am surprised by Mr. Dragonshadow's positon, as every knight in shining armor wants to kill a dragon. He, of all, should understand the need for the various races to exist peacefully together, and thereby reaping the benefits of such an arrangement. If the Senate declared that all dragons be exterminted, would he not take offense?
And Mr. Baggins, when you started that thread, I never imagined that it would be so popular either. I don't think it ever went more than five places from the top. Some fine debates were written in that thread. |

Indeed Myrddin L'argenton is correct. I have not once attacked a sleeping kobold. In fact, they have attack my party myriad times even as we attempted to acheive but a simple nights rest. All they need to do to keep me from killing them is not attack me. Not one kobold, save dear young Larry, has been capable of that. And evil though he was, I allowed him and his brethren to live. While he was true to the illusion of civilization, I suspect some mage may have maliciously turned three children into those forms. But the fact of the matter is I have never attacked a kobold who hasn't attacked me first. And all but one of the kobolds I have encountered did not attack me on sight.

This has got to be one of the most hilarious threads I've read. :D

And not every knight wants to kill a dragon. Erm, Dragonheart films, for example. I think in them, he helped the dragon. And various books that I have read over the years. And no, I would not take offence if the senete said that dragons were to be destroyed. After all, you cannot kill us all, and I would not run around, kneeling by dead bodies and cutting my hand apart. I would at least burry the bodies first! Also, we Bronze dragons are not ususally the evil kind. Leave that to the Blues! And the kobolds attacked me first, so it was their fault that I hate them. They tried to burn me, and I was simply defending myself in the only way that I could: by killing them. I hope I have made my point on three things: Why I attack Kobolds, Not-everyone-hates-dragon, And my gender. Thankyou for listening. Yours, Dragonshadow |

I have stood by and watched this debate with great interest, and I now feel the need to express my opinion. I believe that all races of Faerun can live in peace together. My organization, the Iron Throne, has had great success in integrating other so called "evil" races into human society.
There is proof of this, for example, we actually actually managed to integrate hobgoblins with human mercenaries, Tazok was very successful in accomplishing this! And let's not forget that Mulahey, who is one of our most distinguished...um...SCIENTISTS, YES, THAT'S IT, SCIENTISTS, actually managed to make peace with Kobolds during his expedition into the Nashkell mines. The Kobolds even offered to Mulahey's personal bodyguards! Who would have thought that Kobolds would want to protect a Human?! |
I'm with Baggins on this one. Kobolds really should be treated as equals, if not superiors. Let me tell you a story, friends.
On a recent expedition to the Firewine Bridge, I fell and broke my fingers. Obviously this crippled me, and I was unable to move from the spot for days. I lay there, calling for help, but no one came. Then, one day, a lone kobold in a white robe walked past. He looked to me, and placed his scrawny little hand on my finger. "You are healed, my child," he whispered, and vanished before my eyes. I looked down to find my finger repaired, and I could walk again! I now spend my time looking for this mysterious kobold, and in the meantime I will preach equal rights for his kin! No, not equal... Bow down for the new masters! Kobolds will overpower you all! You may have big swords, but they are small, and their hands can reach places we would rather they wouldn't. Bow down before the kobold! |
ummmm.... how can breaking you fingers affect how you walk?
|
I kinda prayed this would have been forgotten.. but you just enjoy guys, kobolds are funny.
|
Due to the collapse of the organizational base for the Iron Throne in Baldur's Gate, all comments made by supporters of this excessively militant faction will be ignore from here on. In plain enlish? Of course I can say it in laymen's terms. The validity of the Iron Throne as a power is currently in question due to it's known plans to overthrow the Duchal authorities. Therefore, all comments made by those loyal to the illicit faction will not be acknowledged.
|
kobolds aren't really that smart. I mean look at xvarts they can build their own villages, hire out mercenaries (Ursa the bear) and even make peace treaties eg. there are a lot of xvarts in the gnoll stronghold that are friends.
and hey all you have to do is keep your cattle away from them and teach them a few manners and we have another kind of halfling race in our community. |
The Iron Throne has not completely collapsed. There are those of us who remain loyal to this great organization. To ignore us is pure folly. Afterall, we were the ones who managed to integrate kobolds with humans, we were the ones who managed to embrace hobgoblins as equals. These, are just but minor examples of what society would be like under Iron Throne rule.
We wanted to make the Sword Coast the envy of Faerun, if it had not been for some minor mercenaries who had nothing better to do with their time, but destroy the future of Baldur's Gate, we wouldn't be having this debate right now. Every race would have had a prosperus future under our rule. But that vision still lives! The Iron Throne shall rule! The Iron Throne shall return! Why even now we are in negotiations with the Shadow Thie...I mean with a powerful group in Amn that will help us accomplish this goal! |
I am with ITR completely infact they even managed to get gnolls working with the hobgoblins and humans for a while, and we all know gnolls are quite viscous creatures.
Hmmmm.... could me and my xvarts join you at the Iron Throne I mean you even managed to get an xvart working for you, some organizer guy on the top floors. He was quite nice and could talk the common tounge fluently. And anyway having that other organisation from amn on your team could be quite handy. |
I doubt that the iron Throne's plans involve dragons.
At any rate, i am aginst them as much as I am against kobolds. |
Lord Dracon, the Iron Throne welcomes you and your Xvarts with open arms. The individual you speak of is Destus Gurn. He has served us well and has now been appointed General of our soldiers!
The group from Amn shall remain anonymous for...undisclosed legal reasons. As for the question of Dragons, Dragons are highly intelligent creatures and in a lot of ways more intelligent than humans. I don't see why we could not have come to some comprimise with them. We may seem power hungry, but I assure our reasons are for good http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon37.gif |

The Iron Throne could care less about the socio/economic status or fame of the Sword Coast they just want to rule in whatever way they are capable. They did not integrate the different races, merely manipulated them, much the same way that they are attempting to manipulate this debate in a paltry effort to regain some of their status.
|
But don't you all see the Iron Throne has changed. They have reformed due to their old leaders Rieltar and Sarevok being disposed of. The Iron Throne has taken a new course they even have a new leader in the making.
Plus with all the Iron Thrones recent attempts to break up this prejudice against other creatures they will have many kobolds, gnolls, hobgoblins and such other beings wanting to belong to this new organisation that is against prejudice. These other creatures will feel equal with their human companions, they will finally realise that they can live in peace and equality with their human fellows. |
Right the Iron Throne has changed (sure), and Fidel Castro will become the next Pope.

Unless he's dead, but the poeple that are elected now... Or appionted, Emma, who has just said that in my ear. |
Thank you for your defense Lord Dracon, but alas it appears that the council has no belief in us, in any case it does not matter. The Iron Throne shall return! We will be stronger than ever. We will take control sooner or later, and unite the Sword Coast under OUR banner!
Defy us at your own PERIL! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon17.gif And who is this Fidel Castro you speak of? I don't recall that name among our list of employees, and who may I ask is the Pope? A new Duke perhaps? BAH! Enough of this nonsense, we will enlist the help of Kobolds, Xvarts, Hobgoblins, Gnolls, and any other creatures, to eradicate Faerun of weak minded fools such as yourselves! (ooc: hmm this gives me an idea for a mod) |

And by the way, I called you weak minded not stupid, there's a difference. I'm pointing out that you have no vision, no ambition, nothing that drives you to excel. And who are you to eradicate the Iron Throne? A Bhaalspawn? I think not. You would not attack a Kobold that does not attack you, and yet you mindlessly sit back and not associate yourselves with them. It should be your arrogance, not the Iron Throne that needs eradication.
My actions may seem evil to you, but they are justified! And when we return with full force, who will save you then? (in case you haven't noticed, I was under the impression that this thread was in character only) |
