ok I found the bell tower quite fine but that was only because I could not find the switch to get back into the kitchen. I have spent two days (real time) searching EVERY INCH of wall down there. I just want to get out and go home 'snif' if I kill any more snake dudes then I won't be able to hold the potions they drop. thanks

Packrat 09-23-2002 08:06 AM

Welcome to the Board, Thrrek!!!!

Welcome to this strange and mystical land
and be on your guard....keep your weapon in hand

The way out of the bell tower is a series of lifts. one takes you down and the other, back up to the kitchen. There are no switches involved....can you hear anything???...or does the text mention anything about...someone takes crush damage?????

kev 09-23-2002 08:08 AM

Gday Thrrek,
Yet another Aussie, nice to see you here.
If you give us more details as to where you are we might be able to help you out.

Thrrek 09-23-2002 08:12 AM

I was sort of not paying attention to where I was running in the temple, I was pretty loaded and just filling in my map. then I hit this button on the wall in the kitchen and went down this lift (took crush dam on the way down) then went around and back up the other side, which had two rooms on top of each other with no way out!!! I stupidly didn't save and am quite fond of the 3 LEVELS my guys have gone up fighting the random spawns in there. there is a "soft" wall on the seccond level acording to my map but I cant find any way to switch it.

Packrat 09-23-2002 08:18 AM

Did you...By chance...find your way into the 'Belfrey'????
...3 large, very dark rooms with 4 or 5 chests????

Thrrek 09-23-2002 08:19 AM

I'm in the serpent temple kitchen store room, and my T key is just now playing silly buggers with me but anyway, yeah I think I missed a lever and am now stuck, which is silly because I have NEVER found a game like this where you can get stuck and not die.

kev 09-23-2002 08:22 AM

Has your game frozen?

Thrrek 09-23-2002 08:24 AM

yeah I got to the belfry, easy way to spot is is to cast illuminate on your tiger and then I had to learn how to jump (hadn;t needed to b4) I had thought there was something up higher on the lift and had stacked a whole load there, to the point where I was crushed on the roof. there are only 4 chests and I had to pry them cos my rouge fell down and broke her neck. I am soooooo fed up with this bit of the temple. ooh I also was woundering what the funny blue bit of wall is up there, but the gist I get is that it is a forgotten realm.

Thrrek 09-23-2002 08:26 AM

no it's not frozen I can still run around and jam and unjam the lift, I can also fight monsters but I just can't escape!!!!!!!!

Packrat 09-23-2002 08:29 AM

Thats what I thought.....The only way out of the Belfrey....is to jump. Me thinks it was a left over.. They never installed the Lift...LOL...

Go to the North West corner....climb up on the wall and....JUMP!!!!!

Thrrek 09-23-2002 08:37 AM

yes but I climbed into the belfry in an attempt to escape the area I was in, I took one lift down from the kitchen and then ran along some halls then I found a lift which was constantly moving (the kitchen lift went back up and stayed) I am now stuck down there, I went up the lift to the same level as the kitchen and there is a rock on the floor in one bit (looks like a dodgy rock but hey I'm no game designer) and then on the lext level up is the belfry entrance. THERE IS NO WAY OUT MAN, MY CHARS ARE GOING TO HAVE TO EAT THE OOMPA TO LIVE. Which brings up an interesting point which has been bugging me, when do these guys sleep or eat or well you know... well I suppose they wouldn't have ot if they didn't eat but still it just aint right.

WillowIX 09-23-2002 08:43 AM

Lol Thrrek. Iīd eat the kitty first, taste better :D ! (Donīt tell Ziroc about that one ;) ) Welcome to the boards btw. Packrat has given you your answer I think, simply jump (we could just call that climbing down a ladder couldnīt we? :D )

Packrat 09-23-2002 08:46 AM

If the Kitchen lift..."Went up and Stayed"..We do have a problem...It should also be constantly moving...There are no sitches... http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon28.gif

WillowIX 09-23-2002 08:50 AM

Have you tried exitting the game and the start it over? That could maybe give the lift a helping hand. Thatīs all I can think off actually. IMO a reinstall for this problem is a bit excessive. Otherwise a reload of an old saved game is in order. And donīt worry youīll gain those 3 levels quick enough (again ;) )

Thrrek 09-23-2002 08:53 AM

you mean I am stuck??? but but I CAN'T be stuck, I just got remove poison and the snakes die so easy now, my last save in a prestuck area is b4 I got that stupid signet ring which got me into all this trouble, grrrrrrrr. oh well thanks for your help guys, I'm going back to mechcomm2 for a while, there I can eject.

WillowIX 09-23-2002 09:00 AM

Another way would be to mail your saved game to one of us (the regs). We could then check if itīs the game or the save thatīs causing the trouble (I think itīs the game). We would the be able to get you past the kitchen lift, well maybe. Any ideas packrat?

Packrat 09-23-2002 09:12 AM

I think we've mentioned all the possibles....

If the kitchen lift is stuck..up... the only way out is to....use 'Vanish', 'Teleport' or the 'Reverse Time' spells.

Personally...I'ld LOVE to see the saved game... :D

Wyvern 09-23-2002 01:26 PM

Welcome to the board, Thrrek!!!

You've been given a lot of helpful hints. Check here: http://www.volberding.com/WHints/index.html to determine exactly where you are located (Xignal has great maps) and then perhaps we can sort out a solution.

If the elevators are truly stuck and you're really at a lost at what else to try we can try seeing if I can get it to work on my machine. This game has always run very well on my machine. IF you need to try that option, I need you to ZIP up your save file and send it to me in pieces using WINSPLIT (you can pick that up at http://www.zdnet.com/ . Include a JOIN file and send the parts individually. My email just can't handle big files anymore :( but I can work with the pieces! :D

Ooohkie Doohkie....

I just reloaded an old save....and I think I know what happened.....

When you click the button on the wall, (in the kitchen) the elevator starts..(and runs, continuous)..If you click it again...no matter where it is...(I tried to get it to stop in the Down position)..the elevator Returns to the up position and stops.

Me tinks...you double clicked the button...quickly turned...jumped down the shaft, (while the elevator was at the bottom)... and jumped off....before it went back up and stopped.

I tried every other thing I could think of to jam the elevator in the up position...and that was the only way I could do it.

Seeing that your party is so young...I doubt that they have 'Vanish' or 'Teleport'......So.... I'm afraid the only way out is "The Reverse Time' spell. (ie...reload a saved game) http://www.armbcr.org/smiley/mummygrabfree.gif

WillowIX 09-23-2002 06:41 PM

Excellent work packrat!! Have you put a copy in the best tip thread? Me thinks it belongs in there as a warnig

Bungleau 09-23-2002 10:55 PM

Just to remind in this sorry time, there may be another way out (at least partially) -- resetting adventures to just after leaving the last town. I strongly suspect that Thrrek has been to Valeia or Ishad N'ha at least once since picking up the signet.

That would recover a little bit of activity...

LiOnHe@rT 09-24-2002 01:46 AM

man i'm really poor at these things but.......................the only thing i can say now is what the others have said already, and that is to RELOAD THE GAME!!! or u can use the REVERT adventure option which yes, recovers a bit of activity. and if u are playing mechcomm2, i wish u the best of luck coz i heard dat it's a good as well as difficult game ;)

Thrrek 09-24-2002 10:55 AM

hey guys thanks for all your help, pack was right I had locked the elevator. I pauses for a fraction of a sec between goes and I thought it was a one shot button. I have now reverted and thisarvo have gained myself levels above my trapped glory. I'd still like to know how these guys survive on no food or sleep but hey, another time. on the up side I guess I'm one of the few who find the belfry the 1st time through. It's the small concelations that matter. btw you guys rock.

WillowIX 09-24-2002 12:24 PM

No food is required in the game, strange I know. But food has been left out of almost every RPG since the early ultimas and those, which to me is a good thing since I always forgot to buy any food ;) Ale in the other hand is something they canīt be without, mmm delicious brew!!! And as for sleep, one can rest when oneīs dead lol :D :D

The early MMs also required food, at least up to MM5. After that, it went away.

Personally, I don't mind that aspect being gone. There's only one time I remember it really ever coming into play: in MM, if you were in a desert and weren't a... navigator or cartographer or something, then every step cost you a day's worth of food (since you were presumed lost).

LiOnHe@rT 09-25-2002 06:42 AM

wow there REALLY is a game like that??? i didnt know that, and it's quite weird that every step is worth A DAY'S food!

Bungleau 09-25-2002 09:48 AM

Yep. That was in the older MMs, and the premise was that you were lost in the desert. Since it was a grid-based system, where each step moved you onto a square, they couldn't really enforce it... but wait! They did, IIRC, by making every step random. If you walked forward, you might go forward, back, left, or right.

Made things interesting, for sure...

LiOnHe@rT 09-26-2002 04:59 AM

yup i tink it would..............
