Last night my wife came in to the study & told me I was addicted to this game & this forum. I totally agreed with her. Then she started telling me that I have a problem.
I dont think that I have a problem. I keep the W&W disk 2 permanently in the cd rom & Ironworks gaming on my favourites list on my browser. Where's the problem in that.
Oh oh she just came in & found me talking about her. Now I have a problem.

Packrat 09-09-2002 07:55 AM

ohoh!!!

This sound like one of those situations where......Run Away,Run away!!!....Isn't going to work... http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon16.gif

Wyvern 09-09-2002 08:35 AM

kev - LOL!! Would it help if we wrote her a note telling how good the game is and how great this board is? It's not like you're hanging out on a game board where there is more fighting going on on the board than in the game! :D
Does she play computer games at all?? Share your addiction! :D

Now back to the poll:

I've said it often in various posts here, W&W is one of the very few C(omputer)RPGs I have played in many years that I played beginning to end and thoroughly enjoyed! I would have to think a while to remember which other games I have finished in the last 5 - 7 years. W&W has all the elements I like best and some pleasant little bugs. I like that the world is not so huge that I get lost or feel like I've taken on a second career rather than a diversion. I love the flexibility of character development and the feel of the environment. There haven't been many games where I will load a particular saved game just so I can swim underwater or ride across the shire chasing a dragon. W&W gets a bigs thumbs up from me!

so pls. gimme ur answers

Bungleau 09-10-2002 11:04 PM

Hmmmm.... I first played D&D when I was around 13 or 14, so I know that swords and sorcery are of interest and available then. And I know that as everyone does, we went through some really sick periods of gaming, where we came up with things that really appealed to our twisted young minds... nowadays, that kind of stuff is on television after 9PM in the States.

As for the age the game is designed for, it's rated as a mature game. That means that in the States, in some places a store could get into trouble for selling it to someone your age. Go figure.

Personally, as long as you can keep the distinction clean between the real world and the Gael Serran, things are fine. Once you start thinking about how close you could send a throwing knife to the teacher's chair, it's time to take a breather.

Not that I'm encouraging mixing throwing knives and teachers together. My mother retired as a teacher, and most of the effective teachers I've seen might hurl that throwing knife back...

As for the game, I think it's a great challenge with a lot of intricacies, which makes it fun to play over again. Sure, there are a couple of bugs, but by and large, they don't detract from game play. The only thing I'd like to see is the W&W expansion pack...

LiOnHe@rT 09-11-2002 03:32 AM

yea i wonder what the W&W expansion would be like.........anybody wanna answer that question???

kev 09-12-2002 09:18 AM

I,m back,
A couple of nights away at work make all the difference.
No Wyvern I cant get her interested in any games or even the fantasy genre. She cant understand me or my kids. I wish that I could get her interested, but then who would do all the work around here.lol.
LiOnHe@rT. Look at Wyverns thread on what should W&W2 be like, I think it is on page 1 or 2. It gives a good idea of what the players would like to see. I just hope Mr Bradley reads it too.

Wanted 09-13-2002 07:25 AM

Hey Kev,
Its quite funny...in my house it is the opposite...I am addicted to the games and the puter...hubby can barely turn the thing on without help LOL....the kids and I love the playstation etc as well...he HATES computer games and hates us playing them....doesn't mind me being on the internet tho...so I can get away with that without being winged at LOL.

Ok in Aus W&W is rated G 8years and over low level annimated violence

Hmmm...my 15 year old daughter is itching to play it...but first she has to finish M&M6 seeing as she has barely got past Ironfist I think I am safe for a while LOL.

Hey Wanted,
Do you have to kick your daughter off the pc everyday or is M&M6 on the Playstation. I was kicking my boys off continuously until they got a PS2. I've even managed to get a couple of save slots on W&W back off them.
I think this game could do with more save slots so that the whole family can play it.
My old man is a Queenslander. I met him in April after 31 years. He was doing the big tour with a Winnebago. I plan to visit Brisbane next March.

Bungleau 09-13-2002 01:45 PM

MM6 is only available on PC, Kev, so I know Wanted is booting them off the PC. The only console MM game was Legends of MM.

As for the limited WW slots, you could also install the game a couple of times, into several different directories. Then everyone could have their own!

Packrat 09-13-2002 09:31 PM

There is also a 'Warriors of Might & Magic' for PS2. It's done by 3DO...I enjoyed it...but...it's nothing like the PC, MM series.

As for the 'extra' saves...there are 2 options that I know of..

1. Off load copies of the 'Save' and 'ROSTER.DAT' files into your own personal folders.(I know this one works...I do it alot. If you decided to do this let me know and I'll e-mail the details.... )

2. Change the numder of the 'game' save file. The game only recognizes...game00.sav ~ game07.sav. If you change game04.sav to game08.sav...the #5 slot..(on the 'LOAD' sceen)....shows up empty. (I know this works...BUT....I don't know how this will impact the game if there are alot of extra saves)

LiOnHe@rT 09-14-2002 12:18 AM

wow, u ppl. sure love polls eh..........
naturally i dun really KICK any1 of the com so that i can use it. i juz.......em.........GET them off the com :D !!!

I can't believe how long it is taking her to do MM6...I mean even with her Mum hogging the puter...she runs away from fights and sticks to the "safe" places....coward!!!!
Has anyone her played MM9? Is it better than the last 2...they definately did not meet up to MM6's standard. Haven't bought it yet because I was very dissapointed in the last 2.

Well, after I finished my first run through Wizards and Warriors, I went off to play my brand new copy of MM9. I got probably a little over half way through it. Now I'm back playing W&W. Eventually, I will go back and finish MM9, mostly because I can't stand to leave a game unfinished.

The graphics in 9 are spiffy. New game engine. The fighting is an improvement over 7 and 8. It's not nearly as buggy and prone to crashes as 7 and 8 were, at least not on my system. It all looks very good, although I don't like the new character portraits in the inventory screen. One big problem though. The dang thing is boring. Run all over the freakin' world, looking for this person, or that person and having a dialog with them, and that's all there is to half the quests. There's one quest that simply requires you to talk to dang near every NPC in one town to find six of them that will make you a promise to hold festivals to the green man. What exactly do they think is fun or challenging about that? "Hello. Will you promise to remember to honor the green man? Yes. Great. Next NPC - No. Bummer. Next NPC." Repeat until brain dead. Oh, and the maps are really crappy too.

I've been frustrated into taking a break from many an RPG with a puzzle or quest I couldn't solve, but this is the first time I've ever been bored into wandering off from one. Makes me want to go back and play MM6 again. Which I will probably do after I've finished my solo character run through W&W.

I liked MM7 better than I like MM9 so far, kinda liked owning Harmondale, and I agree that 7 wasn't nearly as good as 6. MM8 I'm repressing.

Bungleau 09-14-2002 11:07 PM

Having played every MM since MM1, I can attest that MM9 has improved technically, but is not the same story-wise. MM6 is my favorite of the "current" MMs, but MM9 has gotten two replays from me already.

Things I liked: new graphics, challenging combats, the fact it existed, lack of sci-fi weaponry, games controls (like head-bob).

Things I didn't like: long walks between places, easy monsters, limited spellcasting abilities, some quest glitches, simple fetch/retrieve quests.

Things I missed: flying, mixing potions, compound quests/challenges.

I really like the MM3-5 days where you had to find a key or stone to let you into a dungeon. That helped keep you out of the things you weren't ready for.

Like WW, MM9 bears replaying. My second party was an all-might party (no advanced magic at all!), and my third had two liches, a priest, and an assassin. Rather dark, that last group.

I would have liked to see more challenging quests and many more incidental quests. Incidental ones can be the "fetch/retrieve" ones; promotion quests should be along the lines of the "rebuild a church" or "save a family" types. In fact, it would have made sense to require some incidental quests in order to bring the green man back to Frosgard (I'll pledge, if you'll...).

Anyway, 'tis a fun game, but different. And while I like the MM boards, they're no way near as fun as the WW boards here, for sure!

LiOnHe@rT 09-15-2002 12:09 AM

hey wait a minute...........wat is MM6 or MM9 again??? sorry but i 4got liaoz n needs 2 be updated :D

LiOnHe@rT 09-16-2002 09:08 AM

geez, NOW i know...........MM is Might & Magic!!!! i guess it juz slipped my mind......... :D
and regarding the crispy fried salads............hmm......needs some ketchup........ ;)

kev 09-17-2002 05:40 AM

Thanks for the tips on save slots Bungleau & Packrat, but as I have a couple back from the kids I dont need any more.
Regarding might & magic, I played it on the old sega megadrive years ago. I wonder why games like that are not available more on the newer consoles. I think all of the newer consoles would be able to handle games like W&W.

WillowIX 09-17-2002 11:24 AM

Opinions about W&W. Well, this is the only old RPG I still play. Thatīs about the best review I can give :D . Personally Iīm not so sure itīs the game itself that keeps me playing it (donīt get me wrong, itīs one of the best RPG Iīve played) but more this board. All the nice people in here somehow help me keep the inspiration of playing W&W. Since Iīm also on the 3DO community from time to time MM6-7 are also on my computer from time to time ;) . Otherwise itīs the freedom of the game I like. The opportunity to make every character into anything (well almost anything). Now wouldnīt it ne nice if you could walk around inside the towns as well ;) ;)

Wyvern 09-17-2002 11:49 AM

Having more than a cardboard town would have been nice as long as they stay away from cities such as those in Arena or Daggerfall. ;) I really like the scale of W&W, not too big, not too small. There's lots of variety to enjoy while exploring and a lot of flexibility.

Desdicado 09-17-2002 06:57 PM

I think this is an excellent little game, and all for a budget price (Ģ5.00 on Ebay!).
Very old school and just how I like 'em.
I got bored with Morrowinds samey game play and went back to W&W, which I'd just started, much better!.
You really feel a sense of accomplishment in this game.

LiOnHe@rT 09-18-2002 09:14 AM

hmm.............i wonder........this W&W game cost me about $3.00 Singapore dollars. can any1 try to change dat amount 2 wat ur different currency is??? juz for information only............ ;)

Packrat 09-18-2002 08:08 PM

If thats what you paid for it....you got a Real deal....
... http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon18.gif..*or a Bootleg copy*

$3.00 SGD = $1.69 USD.

LiOnHe@rT 09-22-2002 05:36 AM

hey what did u mean by a REAL deal??? let alone a "Bootleg" copy....??? if tt is an insult.........
nah nah i'm juz joking!!!! :D

tater 09-22-2002 05:53 AM

American translation: Real deal means a very good bargain. Bootleg means something that was illegally produced.

In other words, you got the game for an amazingly low price.

LiOnHe@rT 09-24-2002 02:09 AM

eh heh heh...................pls. dun flatter me. i got it cheap but it was NOT a bootleg, mind you........
