what do you think is the strongest monster in the game or the monster that was the hardest for your party to deal with I really want to hear your replies?

WillowIX 07-19-2002 04:49 PM

Welcome to the board Chi Master. I´d have to say the mantraps since they´re awesome ranged fighters and you meet them so early in the game. :D

Packrat 07-19-2002 05:05 PM

NO... It's got to be...Erathsmedor...LOL..(Just kidding Wyv. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...cons/icon7.gif )

I agree with Willow. My first time through the game....I had a real hard time with the room full of Lilies that guard the exists to the booger prison.....Spells would fizzle...mana would run out...and I couldn't move fast enough to Bash em....A whole lot of 'Die and Try again'.

Welcome to the boards, chi master. May your journey through the Gael Serran be enjoyable, enlightening, and entertaining.

IMHO, the salads are the hardest monsters, based on where you meet them and what they can do to you.

But for the hardest monsters to kill, I'd go for a couple that you're not really supposed to kill -- the leprechaun and Oakenmir.

The leprechaun makes the list because the daft git keeps running away (or sending you away). Hours of "Come here so I can hit you" are the result.

Oakenmir is on there because it takes so bloody long to take him out. If you have a low-level party, you're toast long before he knows he's scratched. With a high level party (mine was about level 50 the only time I took him out), you get to enjoy the extra friends he brings along, but you can still get wasted away.

Note that I don't endorse wiping Oakenmir or other NPC-type monsters. I prefer to strike only when struck.

Welcome to the board, chi master!!!

Sebastio is the most deadly. He can bore your group to death with a single quest! (okay, enough of my Sebastio shots for this post)

I think the Mantraps were the hardest/strongest in relationship to character development and where you first meet them. Cet didn't seem nearly as difficult as that first group of mantraps!

I'd have to say the Amazoni Mantraps/Lilly Plants. They have a lot of hp, and deliver a ton of damage from their poisonous breath. Poison seems to be the deadliest attack form in this game, and the type they use is especially bad. It's not Deadly Vapors; it's some special version that automatically hits (even if you run out of the cloud) and, I suspect, lowers your resistance to it. The gas hits hard.

On the plus side, the plants are very vulnerable to Sun spells--any kind of fire will work well with them.

The mantraps, especially if they follow you to the gates, see my story in the Boogre bar. The jungle lillies in the Boogre cave were much easier because you could back around a corner & they could only attack you one at a time. They are easy to kill with a group attack because they dont use that nasty ranged attack.

chi master 07-22-2002 01:44 AM

does anyone have any thoughts aside from mantraps???

The Naga perhaps? But I´ve never considered her a tough opponent since you can kill her in 1min in hand to hand, the out of range trick. Otherwise it´s a pretty well balanced game, although Elyssia and her priests can sometimes prove very difficult...

Packrat 07-22-2002 07:59 AM

If you judge them by 'Time to Kill'....It would be Cet.
With a single character, it takes approx 1.5 min...the more characters you have....the longer it takes.
Unfortunately it's not because he's tough...

Apart from the mantraps, I found Elyssa hard to kill especially with all the serpant Priests. It took a lot of brain power to work out a strategy to do it. By the way welcome to the Board!

Loumistro 07-28-2002 07:54 AM

I found killing Oakimeir to be the hardest. I had no problem with the mantraps. Or Maybe the Bronze Fire Beast I still haven't killed him. lol

No definatly oakimeir I ran away over 20 times to heal and unfortunatly I had 1 vampire that died while the other healed.

chi master 09-06-2002 05:04 AM

the traaveler at the start of the game,I can't kill him,is it possible,TELL ME HOW!!!...Sorry about that...also the geeni in the lamp is very very hard to kill(for a weak party like mine anyway).thanx an' ya welcome Chi Master ;p

WillowIX 09-06-2002 06:02 AM

Well killing that lizzord with a newbie party is not recommended lol :D . Maybe if you reset the game when you´ve got some better characters! It´ll be a walk in the sun then :D . Also why would you want to kill genie? He´s so nice and give you lots of nice thingies...

KAR_MOD1 09-06-2002 08:24 AM

The naga, at what level you first meet her, is imo, the toughest monster in the game. At the end of the battle i used up the amulet of life (3 resurect charges) and all the stone-flesh potions i had. (didnt have the spell yet)
and still half my party was either dead or stone.

Willow is right, killing him with a newbie party is not recommended. but after u beat the game re-start the game, listen to gareth's speech and exit the town on the road to the crypt. when you meet him, have a stone mage and cast flesh-stone on him, or else when you attack him he'll just disappear. now weapons are useless against his new stone form but some spells arent. if i recall correctly some spells dont work. just cast spells like pain, zap, meteor, etc. till he's dead. (for anyone who wants to know how to kill him) He sometimes drops ankhs and other valuable items (for valiea at least) and he is worth the exp.

I KILLED THE B*****!!!

kev 09-07-2002 01:00 AM

Haleabus is very hard to kill BEFORE you give him the mask. I cant even scratch him.
The leprechaun is killable using magic arrows, but you have to hit him so many times that it is not worthwhile. You may as well catch him at home.

WillowIX 09-07-2002 02:59 AM

Try Cet without the Mavin or the Staff of Death then Kev. You´ll get aonther interesting challenge :D . *yaaawn* Now I really must get back to bed.

kev 09-07-2002 03:06 AM

Some creatures are just not meant to go down easily. Try 3 mantraps as a solo wizard with no mana, I did, some things are just not meant to work.lol. :D :

LiOnHe@rT 09-08-2002 12:07 AM

in my opinion, the strongest monster in the game would be, yes, the jungle lilies in the boogre prison! i only had ONE sun samurai who could cast incinerate ONLY n it was like whenever my spell would fizzle, wasting off 1 incinerate!!!!!!
for NPCs i would say it's oakenmir. even with an average party of level 27 for me i couldn't even SCRATCH him!!!!! he sure is 1 tough tree.........

kev 09-08-2002 03:48 AM

I didn't have too many problems with the 6 jungle lillies in the Boogre cave. In both instances I managed to get off 1 meteorstorm at them then used a sword attack at the weakened salads when they seperated as they tried to "Track me down".
It is really hard to attack more than one of them but if you can separate them by using the "run away run away" technique you can catch them alone at corners.
Isn't it funny that they dont attack the other boogres?

Arwyn the Betrayer 09-08-2002 03:38 PM

Mantraps.

Packrat 09-08-2002 03:48 PM

Kol....He's invincable.....The only one who can touch him...Is ...Erathsemdor..... http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon27.gif

Arwyn the Betrayer 09-08-2002 03:55 PM

He may be invincible, but he's demented. :D And he just runs away too fast for being truly invincible (if that's a valid criteria).

Packrat 09-08-2002 04:27 PM

In the 'Fast Track Games'......I usually kill Erathsmedor,(sorry Wvy... http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon30.gif) before he has a chance to finish off Kol....and one time...I went back through 'Dragon Spire' just to loot the chests. Well, There was Kol...just standing there...He wouldn't speak....didn't move, when I pushed him around the room....So I felt sorry for him and tried to put him out of his misery...All I could hear was... Clank ...Clank... Clank...Like he was made of stone. (invincable)

LiOnHe@rT 09-09-2002 06:54 AM

what u actually KILL Erathsmedor???!!! y? is it coz he keeps on talking n talking n talking n talking.........
oh well, y dun u ppl. gimme an idea of how a Fast Track Game goes. it might be interesting for me to try it.............
