Okay, I walk into a building just north of all the fancy tents in Baldur's Gate, the game shuts down, makes that horrendous beep noise, and I get this error message: An assertion failed in D:\BGSourceUpdate_TOTSC\dev\Baldur\CGameArea.cpp in line number 3752. Programmer says: Creature file not found GIRLBA1.
Um... Help? |
try interplay.com, they have info on all the error messages. ;)

uh... I have a feeling the house in question is needed for a subquest to do with the shadow thieves.
also... Im pretty sure I entered every single building in balders gate city on my current run-through and never had a problem like this. Wumpspawner, Im sorry I have no idea how to fix it, although as a last resort re-installing might help. |
I think I'm just going to avoid it. I don't want to have to restart this game. I've put a lot of time into it. I tried resetting the chache, which is what interplay suggested, but to no avail. Bugging my fellow addicts was a last desperate plea... LOL
Ah, well. I hope it's like Pirengle said, and just a forgotten script on the part of the programmer. Though you'd think they'd fix something like that with a patch. I never encountered it in any of my other games, but then again I've never been perfectly thourough. I figured the game would have more replay value if I left some stuff unseen. |
dont go there
|
My guess is that there is no file named GIRLBA1 in your game. I can send it to you, if you give me an adress.
I can't guarantee that that would fix the problem - the game might just keep crashing and asking for more and more files. |
I usually get this message near the house with the skyship parts.
I wouldn't worry about it it seems not to occur all the time. So just reload and continue on. It would be good if it had fixed with a patch but it is possible that the programmers had a difficult time figuring out what was wrong and why it occurs or just that the bug was missed. |
I'm pretty close to the end, and that's the only file it's claimed it's missing. I'm pretty sure it's nothing important, but curiousity is driving me nuts... Knowing my luck, I'll manage to fix it, and it'll just be another snotty brat telling me I'm funny looking.
I'm willing to give it a go, Vedran. My email addy is in my profile. But I'm not sure I'd know what to do with the file once I had it. I'm very computer illiterate. As far as I'm concerned, this comp is just a $1,500 video game system, with access to por... uh, extracurricular photography. :) |
A problem - there is no GIRLBA1 file, the most similar is GIRBA1. A typo or... something mysterious? I am sending it, a kB is nothing anyway. I hope it'll work.
Don't worry, I would tell you what to do: Simply move the file into Override folder (which is inside your Baldur's Gate installation folder). |
I got it, Vedran. Thank you. Not sure if it works, yet, though. I'm playing in Durlags Tower at the moment. I'll try it again once I'm done with this hell hole.
