Well i was just wondering that is there any better Axes than the War Axe?? I need a new and powerful axe to my Barbarian Dwarf...so please inform me if there is better axes

skywalker 09-11-2001 07:08 AM

Hi Qbas!

The only better axe I found was near the end of the game. I think it is randomly found, so there is no specific place you can get it. It is the "Axe Of Runes And Stones". It does 7-16 points of damage and has +1 enchant and +1 To Hit. It's not really that great compared to some of the other "Special Weapons" in the game. The game leans more favorably toward swordsmen than any other weapon user. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif

Well darn! =(..well i think i'm going to use hammers instead then...is there any good hammers to buy or to find?

Wyvern 09-11-2001 07:50 AM

Hi Qbas!

W&W seems to prefer swords and staves over other weapons. There are a few good axes and hammers but the selection is limited and the best of these are, as far as I recall, only to be found randomly in treasure.
Enchanting and blessing can improve your weapons, perhaps you'll consider using the magical route in your search for a better axe/hammer!

There are some great Double Battle Axe's that my Warrior/Barbarian now Samurai uses to great effect. Read on if you want to know where they are:

there are two of them in the hidden valley off of the Boogre's den that you get when you kill the cyclops. I killed him quite early before the quest (which I haven't received yet, but learned about here).

I found a fairly good +1 enchanted double handed war hammer in Shuregeon castle when I killed the blacksmith in one of the first rooms.

Good Luck!

Hi Qbas,

Great question, I have been wondering this myself in my second playthrough as I have a Gourk Paladin who I trained to user Axes, Maces and Hammers instead of swords.

For a while he was using a War Axe +1 and a Side Axe +1, fully enchanting they were only dishing out about 30-32 damage a piece. It was cool to see him wielding two axes, but their damage was poor.

The best axe I've found is the Devil's Axe, does 7-22 damage, stone, but also curses you (nothing serious), but it is 2 Handed. Fully enchanted, it will do 62 damage per hit which is a bit better than most weapons, however it still is not as much as say, a fully enchanted Tomonari Katana (close to 60) and a +2 Wakizashi (45).

However, I found in the hands of my Gourk, who had Fury, Frenzy, Arm of Argus and Giantstrike, it could do TREMENDOUS damage.

If you hide in the shadows, you can still Giantstrike and do quadruple damage. The most I had the axe do in one hit was about 240 damage, I have a snapshot of it I should post.

Other than that, near the end of the game you can find a Battle Mace +2, which can be enchanted up to 60+ damage, and the Mace of Mangling about 54. These are really good weapons, but sadly, it is true than the Swords seem to be the best in this game.

Oddly enough, the weapon that seems to the just about the highest damage is the Wizard's Blade, which will do 74 fully enchanted (by a Zenmaster).

Good luck!

Scronan

P.S. On that note, does anyone know what weapon can be enchanted to do the most damage, maybe the Bloodslinger?

Ok, here's a snapshot, but I know its possible to get damage up higher. This was just for kicks, and to show you CAN get a good axe in this game! Remember, with level 14 Bless, the damage could go up to 70. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Ye gods and FIRESTONES, Scronan, that's a gorgeous screenshot! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no.../xyxthumbs.gif Belongs in a gallery somewhere!

Just out of curiosity, though, isn't the Axe of Demons cursed? If not, my mistake.

P.S. Where on EARTH did you find a "Blade Cuisinart" in W&W?? Or did you just name one of the upgradable swords that? If so, good going!

I am bit annoyed for RPG games that don't make wide selection of weapons for example: in Baldur's Gate 2 there are only few axes (2 or 3 good ones) and allmost all really good weapons are swords...and because i myself love axes that's why i'm bit annoyed for the lack of good axes in RPG's (the ones i have played)

Scronan 09-18-2001 12:05 PM

Hi Saz,

Nice to hear from you! You know, is there a "screenshots" section anywhere on the site? It might be a fun thing to do, I've been collecting a lot of funny ones (like tossing cockroaches turned to stone around and the like), or maybe a place with pics of our best or favorite characters?

Yes, that Axe is really "The Devil's Axe" and it is cursed. But, my character was also wearing the Vampire Ring (not a vampire though) and I didn't notice much happening to him with a double curse going on.

It was disappointing though, I was able to enchant a +2 Battle Mace to the same level as that axe (17-62), and combined with a Main Gauche +2 (45 damage), a character can dish out damage like no tomorrow.

Well, I did more research, and found out that the Bloodslinger does only 7-21 damage (+2 enchant), and can only be enchanted to max of 69 damage.

So, it looks like ye olde Wizards Blade is the most powerful weapon at 74 damage, unless there is another anyone can think of? What about the Assassin's Dagger, I think it can go up pretty high as well. There's a combo, a fully enchanted Assassin's Dagger, and Talon's Fang, I'll give that a try. Hmm, is the Assassin's Dagger an accesory (2nd) weapon? I forget...

Ah yes, that "Blade Cuisinart" is a suped up Main Gauche +2. I also have a throwing knife called Aram's Knife (BT2), Blade of Biting (W1) and a lot of other funny ones.

Its fun to make crazy weapons....but it is a bummer that the axes are so under powered. I think there should be regular, unenchantable/unblessable weapons that are just as good if not better than ones you can make!

Take care,

Scronan

Devil's Axe, huh?

I've been looking in my Wonderful (?) Tome of Misinformation (hint book) for this axe and find no reference to it. I wonder how many other neat items were not listed in this "Official" Strategy Guide. Considering the poor job they did on the rest of it, it should be no surprise! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...les/tongue.gif

Many skywalker, many... I found a LOT of weapons in the game that are very powerful or just plain interesting and were not listed. And the armor is even MORE incomplete. I think the Tome of Misinformation could also be called the Tome of Missing Information.
