Entered a cave and during a speech, came across this,
Centeol: "I am cursssed. The archmage, Jon Irenicus, cursed me for indignities done to him and his wife by me. I loved Jon, but now I hate him, as I hate you and everything. ~~" Heh... Jonny boy sure gets around, and wife? I guess that must be Ellesime( who incidentally broke an artist heart too. Man... these Elves are killers ) |
Heh, I must have missed that. Great discovery, though, Dundee!
Btw, for those of you who don't know, Jon Irenicus is the main baddie in BG2. ;) |
We had a talk about this some time ago, and I think the name was actually Jon Icarus. Someone pointed that we might be talking about the same Jon anyways.. it was just that the name was too Greekish to Faerun, or something, and it was changed to Irenicus.
|
Irenicus ? Are you sure ...
I guess you're referring to the spider-woman. She is cursed by Jon Icarus. Judging by other earlier posts, the makers later found the name to sound too "latin" and changed it to Irenicus in BG: II EDIT: One of those earlier posts apparently right above me [ 02-21-2003, 12:17 PM: Message edited by: daan ] |

I can tell you of my curse, for that is all I remember any more. I used to be beautiful and powerful. An exotic sorceress, with many powers at my command, and suitors at my door. But I only had eyes for one man, Jon Icarus. He was a great and powerful wizard, the only man worthy of my affections, or so I thought. Though I lusted for Jon, he cared little for me, for he had another to whom he was married, lady Tanova. So I plotted and schemed, and finally came up with a plan to rid the world of Tanova. When the deed was done, and Tanova lay dead I was exultant, but not for long. Jon went mad with fury, and using his powerful magics, divined the identity of his wife's murderer. He arrived at my tower, and I allowed him entry, desirous to finally consummate our love. Jon disabled me with his spells, then he cursed me to this body, and set spiders to feed me and keep me alive. So you see, if you were my friend, you would kill me. Tanova? |
Darn, Vedran beat me to it. ;)
Anyway, it is indeed weird if it says Irenicus in your game, DS, as this is how it seems to be for most people: Quote:

Ooooh. That is interesting
Isnt Tanova one of those vampires with the funny walk? lol |
I didn't get the dialogue that Vedran posted, but what I got is what I posted in my first post. It was definitely spelled "Irenicus" in my game.

Any mods installed? Baldurdash game text update springs to mind as a likely candidate.
|
Just the Official Patch, the Baldurdash Fixpack, and the Game Text Update.
|
It could be the game text update. Could you provide a link to the game text update? Thanks!!!

Even though this was debated before it could very well be the very same Jon Irenicus, even though we said it is unlikely he was ever married, it is possible that he was. John was obviously a decent elf and at some point he changed, and was driven somewhat insane for a drive for power. John as an elf is possibly quite old and the we know little of his life before the Tree of Life story line. So it is possible.
Tanova does sound familiar in BGII but I doubt they are the same unless the Tanova in BGII is actually an abomination created by an experiment by Jon gone awry to bring his wife back to life. It also possible that if he was married that his love with Ellesime occurred after his wife's death, keeping his sanity intact just a little longer. It is possible if one tries hard enough to think of possible links. |
I know for a definite fact that without any MODs or BaldurDashing, etc., it is definitely spelled Jon Icarus. Icarus was Jon's "working title" before BioWare changed it to Irenicus. Apparently, they weren't all too sure about the Ellesime/Tanova bit, either. Yes, Tanova is indeed in BG2--she's the Mage in Bodhi's place who's more troublesome than Bodhi herself. It seems to me that BioWare decided to wash their hands of the whole "Centeol Affair / Married to Tanova" bit, as there's not a single reference to them in BG2.
