Ok, so I just did the whole Oracle thing, went through town, got a bagillion quests, decide to go and finish the Samuri thing ... am I supose to beat that thing, or just come back to it later? Or should I do the Serpent Quests first ... just looking for opinions ...

Do the Serpent Temple first - the added experience and levels will help when you have to face the MANTRAPS!! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

i would do the serpent temple first cuz u need lots of exp. to defeat the mantraps...unless u have alredy done that ... do what you want man.

What about doing an end around, facing the Samuri warriors that are here somewhere ... then running back? I REALLY want to get my lowly cleric to do Samuri stuff ...then there is the mage that I'm turning into a Bard, but not sure where to take her ...http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif

Okay, a spoiler here!
SPOIL SPACE (sorry, Wyvern!) > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > There IS a way to beat the mantraps early. After you pass the burned-out house, be looking for a narrow break in the trees. One leads back to the burned-out house. The next one leads directly out to where the Mantraps spawn. Go CAUTIOUSLY down that path. When you see the Mantraps, turn and run like h*** back to the road. They will attempt to pursue you, but they can't get their big green butts through that little passageway. Standing far enough away to where they can't target you but you can target them, blast away with fire (Sun) spells. Even Flamedrop can get them...it'll just take a long, long time. When they're all dead, you can proceed to the Castle with impunity. -Sazerac |
For the above post:
Check out the map at Rick's site: http://www.volberding.com/WHints/Gra...ll_Labeled.jpg The Mantraps spawn just north and west of where the "D" is, near the lake. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif -Sazerac And for &*$#^@!'s sake, save in a different slot before you try it! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/noncgi/smiles/eek.gif [This message has been edited by Sazerac (edited 05-24-2001).] |
Black Knight,
You can, of course, do Samurai quest now - but it is dangerous becouse of Mantraps! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif The way that worked for me was as follows: RUN all the way to Castle ruins, take care of Samurai baton and RUN all the way back. No fighting, only running. But I did it during my second W&W gameplaying, when I knew where to run and how the map looked. Mantraps are really a pain, you know (or will know http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif ) ------------------ Sincerely Yours, Tanda |
Tanada,
Oh, he'll know alright! Man! Will he know!!! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif Sceert yet BK? http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif Moni |
ManTraps. Kicked 'em to the curb. Went towards them instead of the ratlings and drew 'em back and keep out of the edge of their range and toast 'em. hehehehe! YES! BK, kicking A!

YES!!!
Way to go, BK!! I see you followed my advice! Good going. -Sazerac |
Actually, Saz, what I did was instead of trying to kill the Rats, I turned the other way to where the Mantraps were coming from, then threw a barrage of spells at 'em, back up, did it again, turn, ran waited for them to come into view (very important to watch topography, here... don't want to do a spell that explosed into the side of a hill...http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif) and then torch 'em from afar. ALthough the last one I think I might have accidently done a heal spell on, cause he went from red to yellow ... oopshttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif OH well. Very fun...http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif TO THE CASTLE!
BK ps, if they are called MANtraps, why do they hurt my lady-characters? http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif |

One on of my times playing through this game, I had killed three or so of the mantraps, and assumed I got them all. On another trip from town, I stopped to talk to Erzabette. When I finished, I turned around and there was a mantrap right behind me, in the door to her hut. I thought, oh no, I'm dead.
Figuring I had no alternative, I rushed it and attacked. For some reason, the mantrap did not do it's poison bomb attack, and we killed it fairly easy. I don't know if monsters are programmed not to do area attacks around innocent NPCs, or if Erzabette's cottage is immune to magic. If you're ever stuck, try leading the mantraps there and see what happens. Could have been just a fluke... |

Eeeeek...that's a little too close for comfort. Too big of a risk to lead them that close to Ishad N'ha. If they trap you, you can never get out the city gates again. Best to fight them in the Shire or near the Castle with firepower. -Sazerac |
