Since there's so many tech-related questions regarding the game, I thought it would be useful to have a thread related to them...an online "help center" so to speak. Anyone with tech knowledge, post here and help some of the others out! If you have a problem with your system configuration and getting the game to run, post here as well! Someone will be along and help you out, hopefully!
The Help Desk is now open for business! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif -Sazerac |
Ok, there is a question.
I have now W&W installed and DirectX 7. Should I wait with installation of DirectX 8 until the removing W&W? There were information that DirectX 8 prevent normal functioning of the game. Is it true? ------------------ Sincerely Yours, Tanda |
Tanda, it has been a problem with a lot of gaming setups. Most games are set to run with DirectX 6 or 6.1, and almost all of them will run with 7. There's little to be gained with installing 8, and a lot to be potentially lost. I'd hold off if I were you. Hopefully DirectX 9 will work out some of the "bugs" in 8.0a ...or maybe there'll be an 8.1 that will be better.

Great idea Saz,
I have a small one for you: When ever I play the game in D3D 800 or 1024, all characters ident (main quest screen) become distorted, same with pause, item description. When I'm in town and go to a guild, movement becomes choppy and very slow. Any idea on how I can solve this problem? I'm running a PIII 833, 256M Ram, TNT2 M64 32Meg video card, SB16 PCI, Windows Me, DirectX 8 (same problem with DirectX 7), 20 Gig HD (15 Free), 1 Gig swap. At least I can play the game in D3D 640x480 but it would be fun to play it at higher rez. Thanks |
Saz,
Thank you very much for such a quick reply! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif I'll wait with DirectX 8 until the right time comes. Thanks again http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif ------------------ Sincerely Yours, Tanda |
Ryanamur: it seems to be a problem particularly with the nVIDIA TNT2 card drivers. Do you have the latest drivers installed (the 6.50 drivers?) I would probably just recommend running it in 640 x 480 mode to get the clearest view...but you can try to upgrade your drivers and see if it works.
Being that you have the system you do (and now I'm envious...grrr! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif ) I doubt you have older drivers. Check anyway to see. -Sazerac |
i do not agree with Sazerac... but yes it is no problem with the tnt2 or geforce MX or whatever
it is only (as always) a driver problem try out different driver... there are lots of nvidia but do not try the 6.50 it doesent worked for me and my TNT2 either (they are dusty anyway) and there is no problem with directx version it doesent matter which version u have installed i ve 8.0a since it came out and never had problems with none of the games but maybe it does matter which driver u installed in combination with dx if u have dx8 u should install one of the newer detonators cause this are the supported drivers: Detonator4 7.xx, 11.xx or 12.xx @Ryanamur with ur system u should be able to run W&W at highest detail 1024x768 trouble-free u can say definitively adios to the good old vga-times my tip: install directx8.0a and one of the 11.xx or 12.xx drivers and it most likely works would be intersting to hear ur experiences... driver database: http://the-ctrl-alt-del.com/Drivers.htm driver by comparison: (sorry its in german but im swiss) http://www.mediaxplosion.de/hardware.../vergleich.htm |
Great link Savage, thank you! I gave up already on trying to find a driver that gets my Geforce 2 MX working with the game (or is it the other way around?, hehe) but Iīll give that latest Beta driver a go.
Version 12.40 that is. Maybe, just maybe the evil gods of drivers arenīt looking my way http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/hihi.gif I will let you know what happens. Snoekie |
http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no.../xyxthumbs.gif http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no.../xyxthumbs.gif http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no.../xyxthumbs.gif http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no.../xyxthumbs.gif (two for each Savage and Sazerac for your prompt response)
I changed my video driver from the 6.50 to the 12.40 and it worked like a charm. I can now play the game in 1024xwhatever and it looks GREAT http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif. This is a great thread... it shouldn't fall in the cracks!!!!! [This message has been edited by Ryanamur (edited 05-18-2001).] [This message has been edited by Ryanamur (edited 05-18-2001).] |
Thank you, Savage, for those links. That's what I wanted with this thread...a place where anyone with tech knowledge could help someone out if they were having gaming problems.
The DirectX 8.0a has been a BIG problem, and not just with W&W...check C|Net for related stories. There's a lot of users who are just plain frustrated with it; it's buggy and crashes a lot of applications that ran just fine under 7.0. We have had several gamers here who after getting rid of DirectX 8.0a (and they had to do it using the FDISK/REFORMAT/REINSTALL thing), the game ran just fine afterward. The 6.50 drivers have worked just fine with my system, but I've got a lower-end configuration. (nVIDIA TNT). I imagine with higher systems, it will make a difference with the drivers you suggested, and thank you for that! -Sazerac |
it is always a possible solution to go deactivate 3dhardware support and tune down to VGA... of course this will work everytime
but to what cost? playing a 3dgame in soft mode and VGA is just... so ugly!!! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/crap.gif noone deserves being tortured this hard not even Scanthril this blasted scoundrel http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif as for dx8... i never heard smone swearing about dx8a... and i would have... it just seems to me as ppl would be fast with blaming directx when they have no clue where the problem really is... maybe Saz u could grant ur system a little hardware upgrade sometime?? u really can send your 286XT with good conscience in his well deserved retirement now http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif |
Um...Savage, I have a Pentium III 500 with 128 MB RAM, FYI...
and yes, I'm looking at an upgrade very soon, planning to build my own. To my mind, 286XT's haven't been around since the early 1990's...did not appreciate the smartalec comments... -Sazerac |
sorry Saz
didnt want to offend u... i was just kidding when i add an http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif it means it was ironic what does smartalec mean? |
Apologies too, Savage. I misread your comment. I should know that someone with your tech knowledge would know better! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif
Smartalec--> wisecracker. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif We've had a few in here. I have GOT to stop reacting, though! Again, I apologize...and your tech help has been VITAL, and well-needed. In fact, I'm going to see if I can get that new video card I bought working with those drivers you mentioned. Maybe not, though...I think I'll save it for my new system (which I'm going to get in the summer). My main problem is that I bought a store-job last time that when I finally got around to investigating it, found out that it had a 160 W power supply! Monstrous. I won't fall into that trap again. Friends? http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif -Sazerac |
LOL... Alright you two, just shake hands and be done with it http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

j/k guys http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif Communication errors just happen. As for my latest beta driver experiment: no luck, still the black screen. But it was worth a try though, it could have payed off. I've tried version 12.40 with directx 7a first and after that with directx 8. This time I WILL stop trying however http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif It's out of my hands it seems. How about I emailed Activision or Heuristic Park about it? Yeah, I think I will do that this weekend. If anyone can find a solution for this it's those guys. Will keep you all informed if I get any info from them. Snoekie. |
Good luck, Snoekie! I hope they can come up with a solution. What's needed is another patch...a TECHNICAL patch, not one that takes away the *ahem* undocumented features of the game.
-Sazerac |
Yes, good luck Snoekie. Keep us posted.

Man!!! Can I say something here. . .I am SOOOOO impressed with four things already on this thread:
1. Sazerac volunteering to open a Help Desk! (Gotta Love that Sazman)http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif 2. Ryanamur's System! Dag!! Wish I had one of those!!!! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...les/crying.gif 3. Savages Tech Knowledge! Woohoo, you are a smart one! It will be wonderful having another one around who can help with problems like these! (not to mention a great sense of humor!) http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/xyxwave.gif 4. Snoekie's sensitivity to jump in there and lend a kind word between friends! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Too too cool for school, guys! And folks wonder why this is the best forum in the world (as far as I can see, and I can see pretty darn far from this seat!) @Saz
Friends! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif i do have the bad habit to intersperse some irony here and there and ppl sometimes do not recognize that what im tiping is not exactly what im thinking in the first time... im sorry about that... it is one of the difficulties in forum-communication... the smileys have its limitation too... in addition im no native english speaker and often suffer from unlucky diction http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif (the online dictionary is my best friendhttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif) so have merci... i take pains getting better... i like writing english and its a good training as well... would i hang around here otherwise? http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif as for the tech knowledge... as (soon) IT specialist its my job giving ppl tech advice and its hard giving an advice without sounding smartalec... (havent found this one in the dixhttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif of course im not allwise...but if i wasnt be helpful here and there in tech questions i had to change my profession rather quickly and become a gardener or something... another bad habit is that i have to show off with my system sometimes... http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif 1400MHz raw computing force (TB1200c overclocked) http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/contrib...coolgleamA.gif wasted power i know... but i cant fight it... im a techie after all... http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/contrib.../borgsmile.gif @Snoekie maybe if u could give us ur exact hardware/software configuration and error description we can try to isolate the problem... |
Big hug to mammawlin, luv you too http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif
Savage: I can't describe my problem any better then I already did. But I will try to do it anyway http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/hihi.gif The middle screen stays black when I should see the town. All other screens seem to work fine (e.g. I can open them and actually change things like sound, gamma and so on). Even the closing of the other screens goes ok, it's just that the image stays behind.... it's not really there cause I can't click it, it's a ghost image. If I could do a refresh on it, it would probably go away I think. But that still would leave me staring at a black screen. Nothing is there either...it's not like the town is simply not visible it is really not there. How do I know that? The game DOES run on my gf compu (same setup as me except she has a TnT2 Ultra videocard) and if I copy the mouselocation that I do on her screen it won't let me go inside the Inn for example. (if you startup for the first time the Inn is to the top right of the middle screen, or thereabouts) fyi, this is my setup: P3 450, 128MB ram (100MHz), Gainward Cardexpert Geforce 2 MX, 48x CD-Rom, 20GB Maxtor harddrive 5400 rpm, several GB of free space left on it, MSI mainbord (don't know the specific type but it's not important to this problem) I did a full install and have tried it with and and without the patch. After trying MANY MANY different things like: a load of drivers in combination with numerous versions of directx, even the 6 versions - trying to run in software mode or lower resolutions in every possible driver/directx combination - shutting down hardware acceleration in windows all together - short of NOT installing my video card at all and running in 16 colors I think there is nothing I can do on my end anymore....I have tried it all. The only solution can come from the guys who made the game. The problem seems to be Geforce 2 MX specific as it can run on any other Nvidia card out there (albeit in software mode and often with lots of other troubles which shouldn't happen also, but hey, at least it's possible to play) It's like Sazerac said: we need a TECHNICAL patch. This weekend I'm going to send an email to Activision and Heuristic park about it. Not that I am expecting a real reply ofcourse http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif Well, at least not on short notice. Who knows, maybe they are already aware of the tech problems of W&W (they must be I think) and are working on a patch already. But either way, at least I will feel that I've done all I can do about it. Snoekie. (who must go now and do the dishes and get the laundry out to dry...all so I can use my gf compu and play W&W) I'm pathetic I know http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif |
Snoekie:
I had the same problem when I re-installed the game for the first time on my new machine. This issue is documented in the WWTechHelp file that comes with the patch. Here's the content relating to black screens (sorry, long post) I you already have the file, reply and I'll cut all the excess. Hi all! Well I just wanted to pop in and say a few words...
First of all I think it's a great idea starting this thread, it could help lots of people running the game. I too had some problems running the game, specifically when exiting town. The game allways crashes and returns to windows for no reason. My specs once more: AMD TB 800 MHz Asus A7V MB 256 RAM GeForce 2MX (converted to Quadro 2MXR) Nvidia Detonator 12.xx drivers DirectX 7, 7a, 8 Windows 98 SB Live! 13BG Quantum FB HD with 800Megs free space after install Full and minimum install tried. I too tried every suggestion posted including drivers, patch, switching 3D hardware acceleration completely off, resizing swap file, software and DirectX rendering methods with any detail combinations, and even tried switching PCI slots of my SBlive! with RealMagic Hollywood Plus MPEG card so that there would be no IRQ sharing between the AGP display card and SBLive!. (They were both sharing IRQ 11 before switching SBLive! to another slot). First I thought it must be an Athlon CPU/MB combo platform problem but when I saw snoekie's post who has a PIII I know it'not that. I am convinced now that it is a GeForce problem and unfortunately there is no work around to it well at least until a TECH patch will be available. The strange thing is that even though the game doesn't run in Windows 98 which it supports, I tried a minimum installation in Windows 2000 Professional (which is theoritically not supported by the game) and to my suprise it worked fine! There are no more crashes and I am not thrown out to Windows each time I leave town. I can explore the wilderness outside town at last and have the joy of being killed by a group of bandits just to the right of town, as any of you people can! At least this is a normal and proud way of dying! Anyway, there are other things which I can't do when running in Win2k. For example "Gareth" never shows up, the right gate exiting town which leads to the graveyard can't open, it does not flash bright when you move the mouse over it, only way out of town is the left gate. Some buildings in town are not accessible to, so I guess the game really doesn't support Windows2000. But the crash problem is not happening here even with DirectX8 installed, isn't that strange? Anyway, sorry for the long post, hope I helped somebody.... |
KUDOS TO THIS THREAD!!!!!!!
http://www.mibcr.org/smiley/NEWbounce.gif My technical problem is that I can't keep up with the board. I have nice software but my video is currently rather fuzzy and inclined to glare. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif The fuzzy video seems to be decreasing my memory daily. This is temporary, I'm due for an upgrade "right" middle of June and upgrade "left" middle of July! LOL!!! Thanks to all you wonderful posters who keep up with the board while I'm experiencing these "technical problems"!!! Great thread, Saz!! You're a treasure (and so are the rest of you too!!!) Wyv |
Ryanamur, Savage, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! That's why I created this thread! Your talents are fantastic. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif
Snoekie: Way to go! So happy you got it working on your own PC. We need to keep this thread bumped to the top...in case others have similar problems. Hopefully, we could work it into our own FAQ for the W&W system. -Sazerac |
This thread is on my list of "BUMPERS" LOL!!
I'll try to keep it always on the first page. Should it slip off the edge while I'm offline - anyone is free to give it a boost! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Wyv |
wow! on the bumpers list! so lets boost...
nice post Ryanamur very helpful thx a lot http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif @legolas your prob could be the same as Snoekies w&w does not run because of a damaged system/missing dll's that would explain why it does work with a new installed win2k in this case u have to reinstall win98 or the specific libraries if u have a new proper installation make a system image (for example with Norton Ghost) so if there are problems again sometimes in the future u can very quickly recall it in this good state |
Thanks for the advice Savage but I already have taken images of both my partitions where Win98 and Win2k are installed (I use dual boot system) using Drive Image Pro instead of Norton. It really is a MUST have tool for eveyone I think... Anyway, my system is perfectly installed, no problem with no other game or application nowhere except W&W. I still believe it is a GeForce2 MX problem and I 'd really like someone out there who has one, to tell me if he can run it without problems...
Thanks for replying again....keep posting guys it's always nice to come home and check out the latest posts. |
i had one for some time but it wasnt mine and i never played W&W with it... http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif
i still cant imagine that there is something like a Geforce MX only problem but maybe ur right... sorry cant help u with this then hey at least u can still play in software mode! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif very strange thing it works partially in win2k ?! but without being able to leave the town thru both of the gates the playability is shortened too bad as it could be a real solution huh? did u already tried another video card? or as a friend of mine tend to say: if everything fails... do the BIOS update! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif (hes a natural born patch-erhttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif) |
hmmm... if it is a MX only problem
why has Snoekie solved his problem then? he has MX doesnt he? |
On the Windows 2000 problem about not being able to leave the towns: here is the one known solution on how to do it.
In Windows 2000, the town .avi files are compressed and won't work properly. To uncompress them, you need to go to the following site: http://www.geocities.com/virtualdub/index.html Once you get there, load the file townmsk1.avi from the Townavi directory in your Wizards & Warriors folder into Virtualdub. Save it with the "Save as old-format AVI". You will get back a 32MB file. Rename this file townmsk1.avi (over the old file). Now restart Wizards & Warriors. You should be able to get inside all the buildings. This also prevents crashing from inside towns. ALSO: You must have the "Read & Execute" and "Read" permissions on the Activision directory before you are able to play Win2K. Some players have claimed that they needed to be logged in as an Administrator to be able to play the game. -Sazerac (and if anyone asks me what I'm doing up at this hour of the morning, they're getting socked virtually! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif ) |
For those players who have problems getting the program to run in Windows 98 and Windows Me, here is another possible solution:
A lot of times, the Video Compression Codecs are not set correctly. The solution is to reset your Compression codecs in the Windows Setup. Open up Control Panel (Start ->Settings ->Control Panel), click on the "Add or Remove Programs" icon, and then click on the Windows Setup tab. Scroll down the list until you find "Multimedia", then click on it and then click the "Details" button. Make sure "Video Compression" is checked. Then click the OK button. You will need to restart your computer to have your settings updated. Another workaround: if your swap file is too small, setting it to a larger size will help. Heuristic Park Inc. recommends a minimum swap files size of 300 MB. To set this, right-click on "My Computer" and choose Properties from the shortcut menu. When the dialog box appears, click on the Properties Tab. Now click the "Virtual Memory" button. Click the radio button next to "Let me specify my own virtual memory settings." In the minimum box, type 300 (or a higher number, depending on your system). Click OK, then OK again. Let Windows restart your computer. Hopefully this may work around some of the "stalling" and lockup problems occurring during the game. -Sazerac |
To Snoekie... I'm glad that you finally got your machine to work. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no.../xyxthumbs.gif http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif. One last thing... since Snoekie is a man and Ryanamur is a man and Snoekie will love Ryanamur forever, Ryanamur will go back to see the shrink at this time. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif
To Saz: you're welcome. But the big Kudos goes to you for starting this thread and to anybody out there who's got good technical knowledge. I just copied the appropriate sections of a file that I thought could help http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif [This message has been edited by Ryanamur (edited 05-20-2001).] |
OK here is my last chance for survival... hanging on with fingertips.
The problem: PLayed fine for 2 months, wrecked havoc on skeletons, wogurs etc. Got the signet ring, saved the toads, cleaned out the serpent temple, found samurai baton, and was just about to start on shurgeon ruins when I started getting various, miscellaneous errors. These errors pop up pink on bottom of screen at different times. May pop up in town, in shops, out in the woods, clicking on map, etc. Below are the list of the errors: Bmp16__Load Error On savegfx/s_screen.bmp Bmp16__Maskload Error on ICLBUYU.bmp Bmp16__Load Error On portrait/Pchead18.bmp Open error on D6MON8.DAT ( occurred often ) Unable to open journal file: journal.003 Unable to load animated texture efxgfx/particle/astor.ant Unable to load Model models/item/bow-short.MDL Upon receiving the errors, I thought the game was froze and unplugged the power. When I would reboot, after scandisc did its dance, the screen would come back mega huge and I would have to resize. I finally realized that hitting enter would take me back to desktop when the errors came. Solutions tried: adjusted settings to 640 etc. turned hardware acceleration off played with no other programs running always played in options with software driver uninstalled/reinstalled emailed save game to rick and he played it fine for 20 minutes(even complimented my party) uninstalled/ cleaned out registry totally wiped WW off computer. reinstalled full and part. started brand new game and yes got error right out of fence with the lone warrior. And yes, installed the patch. So here I am at last with options running out and a party just dying to get into Shurgeon ruins. The thought of playing and saving every three steps has crossed my mind (too bad no quick save option) If I do that I may be done before 2050. Thanks for everyones help and CONDOLENCES!!! Hi! Dragonrider here. Did you try upgrading your video card software?
|
Aye, I have a Geforce 2 MX and got the game running FINNALY.
My problem wasnīt related to my Geforce after all...I was missing some .dll files and an .exe file (that I could simply dl from Microsoft) Those files I apperantly needed to properly play the avi files (like the townscreens) so I could actually SEE and USE the buildings in there. I havenīt had any error messages at all. Just the black screen. Which was bad enough in itīs own right http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif What could be a good idea is to run System File Checker. Itīs a util that comes with windows. Open up System Information (find at here: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSINFO\MSINFO32.EXE" ) and under the pull-down menu "Tools" choose System File Checker. Let it scan for altered files and keep you Windows CD-Rom handy for any files it might need to restore from that. Thatīs how I got my game working. Check Ryanamurs post in this thread, itīs the lengthy one, and get even more information http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif Thatīs about all I can offer you for tech advice. Eventhough your problems are not like mine where, you might get result running System file checker. No harm in trying. And another thing: I feel your pain, I was ready to quit too because I couldnt get the game running on my pc. Good luck with it, I hope you succeed! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Snoekie. (who need to go to sleep fast! Itīs 3.15 AM over here...neeeeed sleeeeep, yes yes yes, finished the crypt, yes yes yes, I messed up Scabban, yes yes yes....heheh) |
OK here is advice I got from customer service at activision, but they didnt help me with the how to do.... so how do I do these things lol
If possible try installing from a different CD-ROM drive. If this is not an option try the following: Make sure you have 32 bit drivers for your CD-ROM drive. Set the CD-ROM cache size to zero. Change the DMA setting on the CD-ROM drive. |
To coachschwartz:
1. In order to update your files to 32 bit you have to go to your cdrom manufacturers web site and download the updated files. 2. For the cache files go to control panel Then to system Look at the top of the screen that comes up Choose performance Choose file system Choose cdrom move slider all the way to small Click ok Once you have done that look at the top of the screen again Choose device manager You should see cdrom in the first box Click on the plus sign it should open up Click on your cdrom it should turn color and look down to the bottom of the screen. Choose properties. Select Dma if it is not checked Click ok until you are out of the system. It should ask to restart the computer. Restart the computer for the changes to take effect. |
