Probably something that was planned and then dropped. Slingshots used to be common weapons in Wizardry, and possibly Bradley was planning to incorporate them into the game. I remember a good slingshot with a Ta-Li stone in Wiz 7; now that thing would literally "stone" an opponent! Good crit kill ratio, too. They were great weapons for those characters (Wizards, Bards) that couldn't use too many good swords or axes.
