Ok when you first played this game, and I mean for the first time not knowing anything about it, what was the first major problem you came accross.

Mine was finding the leaver for the crypt, I must have spent like 5 W&W days trying to find out what to do cause there was no way into the crypt. I imagine this would be a pretty common problem.

What would you say is your first major headache..???

P.S. this was before I found this forum, and I only found the leaver once I found the Ironworks site. Which in turn lead to this forum......what a turn of luck that was.

TarlA42 02-09-2001 04:40 AM

My first problem I would say would be after Ishad N'ha, at skull Island. I got stuck, and thought I could go on without it, at least at the moment. After help from the board here, I realized I had to finish skull island before I got on with the game. I had actually done most of what I needed, just one little branch of the stream under the castle. I probably spent 2 wizardry days, and more than that of my time feeling rather useless.

Amazonian Mantraps. Ughh.... That was actually the first time I had to reload from a 'far' previous position. I was so gung ho to get to a new city and new territory... No "Call from Home" there...

Shurugeon Castle- Up at the tower- I did not see the lever on the wall after you go up the stairs from Lysandra. I had to go back long afterwards, and felt silly when I saw it staring at me... It was actually shouting "Here I am!!! come touch me!!! Over Here!!!! Touch me you bad boy!!!!! Over Here!!!",
you get the Idea.
Other than that- With good friends like y'all (New Orleans slang showing up there...)
A most excellent game, and looking forward to more times with new, and old games with my friends here.
Tarl.

My first major problem was finding some rat to give the guy in the crypt. I missed
talking to his brother outside and so had no rat pie. DOn't know how long I wandered
around trying to kill rats (harder then you think), and even when doing so they just
melted away! Finally I gave up and took the elevator up, but he never gave me the clues
about jumping on top to get to the secret room, so I was stuck there too, never thinking
of it by myself (help from this board appreciated!). Later, still in the crypt, I had
problems with the fire traps too - there was just no logic to it. In the end I had to
use a crate to jam the gate open.

carg 02-09-2001 06:44 AM

Well, ran into the same starting problems as anyone else in the crypt, but with the supplied walkthrough it was no problem.
The first thing that really took me a while was how to get off a raft!

Davros 02-09-2001 08:02 AM

Getting through the fire traps on the wizard path, then getting totally lost and confused in the Assylum looking for Scabban, then friend blocking toad (without vanish spell that time), then monkey idols (of which I had three). The only other times were getting stuck in D'Soto's tower by a lift jam (and jumping out, thus locking me out of Shurugeon) and making Talrik accept a longtooth hide when his inventory was full of hooks.

Maxpower: for me it was the same thing, the lever in the Crypt. I got so frustrated that I destroyed my first party, started over from scratch, and happened to include a Whiskah in the new party that was able to see the lever. IMO, that was terrible design for newbie players; the lever should have been in direct lighting.

After that, everything was pretty well academic, although the firepits puzzles again were way too complex for someone just starting out and learning the interface; plus, having no intuitive method for being able to figure them out. If it hadn't been for the online guide, I imagine a lot of us would have given up on an otherwise wonderful game early on. I still don't understand the logic behind including a puzzle that difficult so early in the game. Alzagor, do you have any insights as to why those were included there? I know you said there was originally planned a third path for the Rogue class as well.

my 1st major problem was the money (I didn't know about the cheats)
the 2nd problem was the Crypt stairs (I didn't know any better)

Lord Roberts 02-09-2001 01:56 PM

Well, let me see now!

First their was the money, Not enough.
Second Getting into the Crypt, I kept getting my butt kicked by the dead lord outside the Crypt. Then trying to move the statue.
I had no problem with the switches.
My big problems were trying to get back up the broken stairs, and reaching that darn key and Gem stone behind the gate.
Oh ya lets not forget those Mantraps ( score still to be settled with them. )

But without these problems I would never have found all you great people here, and that would of been a shame.

AND A BIG THANKS TO THE GREAT MYSTIC WYVERN.

Hi,

I have never done anything like this before - it'll be on-line gaming next! Anyway, I am a great fan of role playing games like Wizards & Warriors and the Ultima games.

My worst problem so far is, having completed the Crypts (without help) and the Stout Mines (with help), I am back at Ishad N'ah with Amazoni Maneater plants x 2 right outside the gates! Seemingly I can't get my magic spells going until out of the town and while I try to arrange my fighting (in turn based mode), they seem to have loads of turns all at once and my level 9/10 players are blown away pretty quick!!

This is the best web site I've ever seen. Out of curiosity, are many countries represented? I am from England.

My first big problem was trying to get OFF the horse! After solving that one getting off the raft was easy . Probably my biggest obstacle besides the mantraps was swimming upstream in the Dragon Spire. I needed a nap after that ordeal!

I lost count of how many times I drownd attempting to flip that lever on the other side of the metal grate in the pool in the crypt!! AAhhh just out of reach!!

And in the library in the serpent temple, placed all the monkey idols and the snake idol, the room started to shake, what is happening?? walk around to investigate then all of a sudden there is screaming and pain and bloodshed!! Where is this invisible killer!! the entire party was standing under that floor elevator and it was on its way down, right on top of their heads! Oh dear death, my companion.

And those ladders, the entire party have anxiety attacks each time they need to descend Aaahhh splat.

Zaerg 02-09-2001 10:22 PM

My first real problem with the game that led to looking for outside help was... the Snake Head lift in the Temple. I would walk in, hit the lever and take crushing damage, find myself on a ledge at the side of the room with the lift down at the bottom... I would jump in the hole and get stuck at the bottom. Everyone had a different solution, but when I looked at one of Rick Volberding's guides it said to jump to avoid the crushing damage, so wth.. I tried it and that dropped me in the pre-naga room

I found this forum from a link on that site, it's nice to see such an active one.

I guess my first real problem was the storage room in the serpent temple, it took me 20 coins before Ive opened one , very stupid huh!=). And then there those mantraps coupled with those ratlings that made me restart the game all over again. Then there's the boogres caves exit those jumping exercises but with this wonderful forum i guess Wizards and Warrior's Puzzles are a thing of the past,no?

For me it was knowing NOTHING about the existence of the Asylum, still not having a clue as to how to open the door Kerah guarded in the crypt (even though I had the necklace) and trying to do the toad quest thinking I was "on my way" through the game!
The toad blocking my path in the water got to see the sharp end of my sword when nothing could get him out of my way and this seemed to have a very bad effect of the rest of the toad's attitudes toward me!
Running through the tunnels, listening to warnings that Warm skins are bad, getting lost while trying to find Shinwiki had me pretty stressed out. I had taken out most of the toads before I found him.
Knowing Shinwiki was wise and good, I ran up to him yelling "Ukabu!" in my defense, thinking things would change.
Nope! Shinwiki started throwing spells at us!
"Ukabu!"
"Ukabu!"
It ain't working!
Finally in an effort to just remain alive, we killed Shinwiki.
Knowing there were toads left alive out there who would surely kill us before we ever got away, we turned to run and spotted the door on the floor.
An escape route!
The party is fairly low-level and almost dead at this point. Desperate, they click on the door only to have it pop open in their faces.
"WHAM!"
You whole party has been taken out!
&%*#(%$ Crush Damage!
Well needless to say, I crawled here and asked for help and was given the biggest clue that had been in my face all along..."Check the online help file for a walkthrough to the crypt!"
: )
Moni

I still had to off that toad later but by the time we were level 6 or 7, no one cared. (whew!)

UncleJoe 02-10-2001 05:05 PM

First problem: the darn toad blocking the tunnel. Had to ask the publisher for help on that one (didn't know about this board, then). After that, the ********* mantraps. Lucky for me, I've learned to save often.
Continuing problem: the interface. There HAS to be a better way. I never had these problems with Wiz and M&M.

meow 02-10-2001 05:56 PM

Jan - In answer to your question I am from Los Angeles CA.

First problem - arming myself. Yeesh.

Recurrent problem - itchy trigger finger that has killed Scanthril, most of the Toads, and about a dozen roaches... what can I say they startle me and I kill them. I didn't think I was high-strung until then.

Mammawlin 02-10-2001 09:31 PM

Believe it or not, I thought I was supposed to find the Mavin sword inside the first crypt. Therefore, I spent much, much time in there - days - weeks - actually the time is unknown even to me; but it was long enough that my entire party was beginning to wonder if we too would enjoy an occasional rat! That is when I came to this wonderful forum. And I, like others, am now hooked on the forum and enjoy it as much as the game. Now I have been playing with the help of the forum since October and wouldn't have it any other way. I am stalling the end of the game by doing "Role Ascension" quests for my characters and enjoying every minute of it. Since I now have "Teleport and Call to Home" spells, I can choose if I want to wander around back and forth looking for things to kill, or if I just want to go back to the gates of the city or into the city itself. This makes us feel very powerful and is quite a thrilling sensation. When I do finish the game, I look forward to a return bout with maybe one or two characters only. Since I have applied the patch, it should be a little different, especially if I create totally new characters of different races. I LOVE this game and this forum! Grandma in Columbus, Ohio

My first problem was to move those temple guardians in the Shrine of Anephas because I just pushed them and didn´t use the Carry option. Although I havent done it yet (for I am writting this message) I hope it will work.

Dr.Orangutan 03-08-2001 08:49 AM

well my first problem was in the crypt i couldnt figure out the crystal behind the underwater gate,it has been a while since playing a real rpg,the second problem was not having cure poison spell or potions when going into the serpent temple (ugh)

kaythen 03-08-2001 01:44 PM

I had trouble giving that little jerk a rat to eat. I kept killing rats, chasing rats...I felt like killing that creep after a while.

rj 03-08-2001 02:59 PM

I could not get passed the Fire-Pit puzzle. Actually I still have know idea how to get through the correct way. After reloading my game around 20 times I finnaly just ran and jumped straight through.

**If you run up to the man-traps(melee range) they don't spit/throw that party killing whatever at you.

Knarfling 03-09-2001 12:34 AM

My first problem was the money. I bought the game and decided to give the partial walkthru a try. When I didn't have enough money to buy the things the walkthru told me to buy, I knew it couldn't be the greatest walkthru in the world.

I never had a problem with the lever that people talk about, cuz I always had a whiskah in my group. (I learned very quickly how good it was to have night vision.)

My second biggest problem was the two toads blocking the path. I tried every peaceful way I could think of! I used a pixie to try to walk around them. I tried pushing them around with an oomphaz. I tried talking to them. I tried going away and coming back hours later. I even tried giving them money! Nothing worked. At that time, my highest spell was lightning, so I finally blasted away. I found that if I killed them in one blow, no one got mad. (I figured that theses toads would not be missed by many.)

My third problem, believe it or not, was that I couldn't find the library in the Temple! For some reason, I kept missing the levers in the snake head hall, and could not figure out how to open the bars on the north side. I found a couple of very hidden rooms in the torture area but for the life of me I couldn't find the lever. When I did find it, I called myself Shinwiki a few time for being so stupid.

I too got clobbered (a few dozen times) by those stupid mantraps. I always went to the north and instead of the ratlings, I got hit by spiders, trolls, warguls, and swampflies at the same time. Once I tried running away and firing spells, but other monsters kept catching me and while I was dispatching them, those mantraps snuck up and clobbered me. There is a grassy area with a few trees that I walk thru on my way into work and I am now checking for mantraps as I walk thru it.

Only two of my personalites have delusions, but one of them is paranoid and the other is out to get him.

WizardMen 03-11-2001 11:35 AM

my 1st problem with the game was when you were suposed to jump on the top of the elevator in the crypt

DrDave 03-11-2001 11:49 AM

Giving a rat pie. I'd click on the NPC with "Use" still on - can't use; click on "Use/Give" bring up the pie and change to "give" - no pie; finally get pie and Give both active, click on "give" - no result; click on Rat Pie in talk mode - no joy; click on character - nothing; click on NPC - nada; eventually I got it but it drove me mad, especially as I kept on hearing about rats! Happy days.

The other one - that blooming lever in the room after Lysandra! I inspected all the walls time after time and didn't see it. Eventually I saw the screenshot on volberding - without that I'd still be trolling about the Castle.

Elliecat 03-11-2001 01:11 PM

Really interesting to see how people get stuck in different parts. I too couldn't find the lever in the crypt until someone suggested I turn up the graphics light - worked a treat! Found out too late to put a Whiskah in the party - couldn't face starting again. Still haven't figured out how you climb down a ladder - just jump and hope! Those blasted hanging bridges in the skull castle drove me to distraction - knew what I should do but kept missing or over jumping. Still, after falling off my chair with frustration and laughter I did manage to do it. I think it's great when a game can bring you to tears of frustation and laughter http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif!

My first problem was that I noticed that whilst my back had been turned the statue of Kerah had walked of her pedastal in the crypt and was hanging dangerously over the edge (see the Gael Serran Examiner volume 1). My second one was'nt filling the hole in the stairs with broken barrels so that I could cross it (it can be done) but the fact that, until I read the online help file I didn't know about the room above the lift. My third problem was spending three days (real time) trying to get the statue to respond to me (if it glitches and walks off the podium it ignores you're heartfelt prayers and refuses to open the door or even aknowledge you're presence). Then I found this forum, found out that this was a far from rare problem, and restarted with the same four parties.
