Has anyone ever played GB through without a thief? If,not believe me,its difficult! All those dungeons, full with traps,it was like playing russian roulette! Just drink haste potion, run, and hope for the best! I did this in my first game. Specially the last dungeon, ouch!
Is it even possible to disarm traps without a thief? I think not,but if I am wrong, please tell me how. |
There is the 2nd-level Priest spell, Find Traps. I know Clerics have it, and Druids might as well. If you lack a Thief, it's essential, and if you've got a Thief (one that can Detect Traps, anyway), it's absolutely useless. I think it lasts for 3 rounds (or 3 turns): For the duration, all Traps within the Priest's sight range will become visible. This does NOT enable you to Disarm them, you can only see where they are, and either tiptoe around them, or have your Tank drink some defensive Potions and hope for the best.

just make sure my tank is spelled up immune to fire and electric and most of the time he can take the hits quite happily, my thief has barely disarmed any traps in the game so far my main use for her is scouting when sneaked and backstabbing and then chucking arrows at things. The first time i played the game through i didnt disarm a single trap mainly cos i didnt pay much attention to the thief skills other than backstab, so you can get through without disarming, though first time i completed the game i didnt go near durlags where its probably a good idea to bring a thief

I did go to the Durlags, and it was very very interesting.Sometimes it was so sad that only thing I could do was laugh.
|
durlags is the place i had to reload the most, probably had to reload there more than anywhere else in the entire game

i only actually left durlags once to drop off my haul of loot then played the rest through, i prefer not to leave cos when you do you have to pass through floors of traps and respawning enemies

There is a reason I don't play BG without a thief.
|
Me neither! That was my first game,so it was understandable...right?
Now I always take Monty. |
take imoen shes less annoying

Once again I will stand on my soapbox and proclaim the marvels of having a halfling fighter/thief as the main character. Man you can do it ALL. Besides the fighter side of your character gives you the capability to use weapons like the Compound Bow and long swords which would normally be denied thieves. And you still get all of the skills of a thief to boot. two words...LOVE IT.

imoen is annoying for the 1st chapter before shes in the party, but compared to branwen, jaheira, khalid (cowardly sod) and montaron shes not annoying at all, then again your female and you cant appreciate her other qualities
