Dwarf 01-31-2001 05:38 PM

Right, I would like to see a nice, brand spanking new, Wizards and Warriors style game (maybe implementing a proper turn based system or doing away with it entirely, I got fed up of the monsters that weren't fighting me walking around behind me whilst I aimed at bats).Hopefully some improvements could be made (I've made my opinions fairly clear on this but am happy to leave it to the designers).

Well, come on people, I don't know how to start a petition but we could all sign this and do a cut and paste or something, so line up those answers, I want to see a long thread here.

Wyvern 01-31-2001 05:48 PM

I want to see W&W 2!!!!

Tarweed 01-31-2001 05:51 PM

I would buy a WW2 and encourage the developers to make one.
Short wish list:
1) a clock;
2) rest/camp (I don't like the long nights);
3) puzzles that have a logical solution, not just guessing at random;
4) faster load times (why does it take so long to unload a game?);
5 a world you can roam freely, not just take the paths; and more varied
terrain/vegetation;
6) ID skill should be obtainable sooner and/or the cost of IDing something
more reasonable;

Sazerac 01-31-2001 05:55 PM

Being as I am one of the ones who initiated the idea of a petition (in one of the posts down the way), I'd like to officially add my name to this list, and propose the following format: that we each give a testimonial as to why we enjoyed the game and would like to see more of it.

My contribution:

Dear HPI: As a mature gamer, I found Wizards and Warriors to be a welcome title in an industry populated by CRPG's that are little more than action-wannabes. Although the game has a few bugs (which one doesn't anymore?), the overall play was enjoyable and reminiscent of the Wizardry series, of which I am a veteran player. It has come to the attention of several of us that you may be deterred by harsh criticism of making another game in this series. I for one would consider this a tragedy, and would ask that you look further into the matter, as there does exist a loyal fan base for your game. As far as I am concerned, Wizards & Warriors is an excellent game and we definitely want to see more of its type. Even though we may be a niche market, it is a niche that should not be overlooked.

Respectfully submitted,

Paris Soulier (Sazerac)

All right, I pass the baton on to the next one.

skywalker 01-31-2001 06:06 PM

I have been quoted somewhere as saying Wizards & Warriors should be RPG of the Year. Whereas this is unlikely, due to some game whose initials are BG2, I still feel the same, now.

I realise that there are many gamers who have bashed this game, elsewhere, and have bashed Heuristic Park, elsewhere. But this is from the Forum of the gamers who support you and this game the most. I (and we I suspect) respectfully implore you to keep this series alive and create a follow up game to W&W.

There is no need to tell you what was wrong or what should be improved, it is quite likely you are already aware of this. Please, just do the best you can and I, for one, will back you 100%!

Thank you for your time.

Mark C. Williams (Skywalker)who passes the baton....

adam mage 01-31-2001 06:20 PM

I'll even do it in sign language!

looking forward to WW2!
after WW1, I'm addicted! I want more!

my requests:
more exotic mythical animals/people, heck, I'll settle for killer sheep!
useless items disappear when mission's accomplished
an outhouse in each city! there's only one in Valiea!
more interesting weapons.
different shoes.
food
I hear that it needs a better ending: surrounded by cheering people from different cities.

Scronan 01-31-2001 07:11 PM

Hello,

I'll take the baton and get on the soap box here. HPI - Please continue your work, this game has so much potential and as you can see, there is a fan base here that enjoyed the game immensely.

Yes, there were some little problems, but the core of the game was very sound, and with a little bit of work (ie a SEQUEL) it could be one of the best games ever made. I'd highly suggest talking to the loyal fans here, and allowing our ideas to help guide you to a sequel and we'd be glad to beta test!

I and many of us have ideas on what should be improved, but that can be discussed later if and when it is needed.

Ok, enough on that, DWB you made a great game, so don't give up because a bunch of immature Quake 3 borne teenagers got made because of a few bugs! I loved Wiz 5,6,7 and WW, so I look forward to more games in this genre.

With that, I'll disappear in the mist for the time being!

Sincerely

E. Ritchie
(Scronan)

Connla 01-31-2001 07:53 PM

I hereby place myself on this petition. Pleeeaaaase produce follow ups to Wizards and Warriors!!!

I have encouraged friends to purchase WW and some have. I would do the same for any follow up.

I am enjoying the game very much. Yes, I would purchase a sequel. I have NOT
downloaded a patch, and have gotten around the bugs well enough. I did have to kill one innocent toad...,but I remember being irritated enough to have enjoyed it. Did it stop me from playing? Obviously not. Do I want more? Yes please.
Think of a sequel as taking a good game, fixing what went wrong, adding to it, and you may have a masterpiece! You already have customers in line.

Moni 01-31-2001 08:26 PM

Taking the baton...

I have not truly enjoyed a game so much since I played "Wizardry 7 Crusaders of the Dark Savant".
Wizards & Warriors with or without the patch was both playable and best of all FUN!
Although I sit here patiently awaiting the release of Wizardry 8, I would LOVE the notion of getting to play a second edition of W&W and would add it to my list of games I would buy (which presently consists soley of Wizardry 8 ).
I know a few fans of this type of CRPG and am sure they too would add it to their libraries.
PLEASE consider a sequel! You have loyal fans and buyers of the game beyond just those of us on this forum who are taking the time to let you know what a great game this has been to play!
Granted, it does need a few slight improvements but overall, none of us will say that we did not enjoy playing it!

Passing the baton...

Magnus 01-31-2001 09:08 PM

What Tarweed said!
Plus, I think that once you ID an item it should tell you automatically what it is. It just gets a little stupid to ID 100 short swords etc. and I like right clicking an item and then have the window close when you release the mouse button. Also when buying and selling and someone has the merchant skill, everyone should be able to have the same benefit. It just saves all the transfering of items to that character. This does not have to apply for training (altough it would be nice).
P.S. I don't much like jumping, climbing etc. in these games that's why I like turn based. I just don't want to win or lose a combat or game 'cos I didn't push a key at the right time.
I do prefer the turn based element but I like the way M&M did it so I could turn it on as soon as I encountered an enemy (and they didn't run right up to me) and I could plan my stradegy better.

Moni 01-31-2001 10:53 PM

Magnus agreed"
"so I could turn it on as soon as I
encountered an enemy (and they didn't run right up to me) and I could plan my stradegy better."

I spent a lot of playing time seeing monsters run up on me before I could even ready a spell and felt like I missed out on a lot of potentially lethal use of magic.
Hot keys for spells would be another good idea as would a greater distance to see on the horizon.

Nukester 01-31-2001 11:36 PM

I would MOST certainly buy a sequel to this game !

I cut my teeth in the CRGP sccene with Wizardry 1 Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord. I have played probably 75% of the CRGP's that have been released (although I have only actually finished about 1%). I've played the Utima series, M&M, Bards Tales, eye of the Beholders, All the Gold Box games, Stonekeep, Fallouts, and some obscure junk too. The Wizardry series is the ones that I ALWAYS compare the other games too. I almost fainted when I saw the Wizardry Archives box.

Just recently I was looking for a new game to start playing. I really didn't have much money cause it was right around Christmas, so I took a look at what I had already. I loaded up M&M 7. Hated the combat. Too much. Uninstalled. I loaded up Baldurs Gate (for about the 6th time). Just did not like it. Uninstalled by the 3rd chapter. Loaded up Fallout 2. Was ok for a bit (better combat mechanics than BG), until I yearned for my Elves, Trolls, and Dwarves again. Played Everquest for a bit , but that got boring (kill, sit, kill, sit, chat, chat, chat), although I do still play that occasionally. All the while I was eying up the Wizards and Warriors game. DWB had impressed me in the past, and I knew he was into quality CRPG experiences. When the time came that I could purchase the game, I snatched it right up...........Ive been hooked since !

Sure I have the occasional boot to desktop. I get that in alot of games. Sure I can only play in 640x480 resolution. The graphics in that setting are still better than alot of games. Bottom line is, this game is everything I was looking for. The "First person perspective" plus turn based combat of the old Wizardrys is without a doubt my favorite type of gaming. The game also moves along at a nice pace, without boring the player to death. On top of that, you get a top notch STORY ! Thats why I play these games in the first place. I want an interactive "novel" in the computer. DBW delivers that EVERY time !

Skie 02-01-2001 12:21 AM

Ive got to agree with all of you here, been playing this game for about a month now and
for the first time in my gaming life, I haven't even bother to try other games(ok maybe ive played NBA 2k but its of a different genre). A WW2 of course I'll support it 100%, Ive even urging a friend of mine to get it.The truth is another friend of mine told me not to get this game because of bugs but since BG2 proved too easy(what with your character starting at level 7), Ive given it a try and guess what, Im surprised that I enjoyed it a lot, I have not even noticed those bugs, until I began reading this great forum. So to the creators of this fantastic game, please dont abandon any plan for the sequel ..plsssss..

TarlA42 02-01-2001 04:38 AM

I guess I'll officially get on this bandwagon also.
I've been playing crpg's for about 15 years now, and W&W's is probably my favorite. I remember playing Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord for many, many, many hours on a monochrome monitor. I spent hundreds of hours playing Wizardry 7. W&W's gameplay and graphics is smooth, attractive and very addictive. I would most definately purchase a "Sequel". I have found W&W very fun.
In a sequel I would like to see a "camp" feature.
More varieties of monsters. One of my favorite parts of these games is seeing something coming towards you that you've never seen before.
All and all...
Two thumbs up.

Davros 02-01-2001 08:18 AM

Picking up the baton :

I thoroughly enjoyed this game, and the hours and hours of amusement it gave me. 1st person perspective games are the way I like my RPG's, and this is the best I have yet come across of this type. Wiz 8 promises a similar experience, and I am awaiting that release. I would similarly buy any sequel of W&W, and have widely recommended it to my friends. Keep up the good work DWB and Heuristic Park.

Passing the baton ......

carg 02-01-2001 08:59 AM

Picking up the baton :
I WANT MORE, I WANT MORE!
There are a lot of quirks, design flaws and bugs that I would like to see fixed, but still, I can't remember another game that I've played four times through. Would esp. like some more challenge on the setting 'hard', like monsters doing more physical damage and using higher level spells.

Passing the baton ......

By the way, anyone taking the responsibility of sending this to HP? Dwarf perhaps? (you started the thread)

Serath 02-01-2001 10:04 AM

I thought W&W was a great game despite the flaws listed in this thread, and I would not have to think twice about purchasing a sequel. Bring it on!

Another W&W game is a must!!

Lily the Ranger 02-01-2001 04:43 PM

I would go out and purchase this game all over again. I am playing it twice and will always keep it in my library (usually, I pass them on to my kids, as once I have played I am done). Here is a game I can dream in. A story. I am not boxed in by levels and stats, but going along in my game, creating my party as I go. I beg you, give us another. Don't let those who are easily disillusioned discourage you. Those of us you will hear from in this petition are just a mere fraction of people who have enjoyed the game. I am sure, many other series may have started out with a first game that was a bit buggy, but persevered on to create another, and finally, went on to create epics enjoyed by many. Come look at our forum or (if you feel the way I do about searching) ASK US! Most of us will gladly be your market research guinea pigs (quiet Boo), if you will reward us with a WW2. We know you can't please everyone! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, try once more. I really want another! But, please, NO BLASTERS! And a few charming fellows wouldn't hurt either.

Elara 02-01-2001 08:33 PM

Immersive environment and storyline, advanced class roles and leveling, intricate spell system, aggressive AI, lots of inventory, and those little details like birds, butterflies, glowflies actually interacting with the environment (windmill liberating a butterfly! *splut*), Wizards and Warriors has some great touches. I would buy the sequel the minute it was available. Hoping the postive responses here in this thread will encourage the folks at Heuristic Park to take up the banner to produce a Wizards and Warriors II, yes, yes, yessss!

Some of the things I'd like to see included in a sequel are:

Clock
Compass
Camping on the road
Inn for resting in town
Stores/guilds in subsequent towns with new and better grade inventory rather than a repeat of items.
Quickspells
Option to escape excessive dialogue without losing the point of it..

Thank you HP for all your efforts, past, present and future. We applaud your creativity and hard work!

Well its my turn to pickup the BATON.

I've over looked this game so many times, and then decided to try it and I was hooked.

I've played many rpg game like ultima, wizardry, d&d, and more and find like others I can't get enough.

I love the way you made the underwater setup, It's neet to be able to walk underwater and fight sharks and turtles, and the look so real.

PLEASE BRING OUT WW2, I WANT IT TO.

WE I'LL PASS ON THE BATON.

Sazerac 02-03-2001 12:01 AM

Okay, all...when do we want to call a halt on this and send what we have to HPI? We've got 25 responses so far. I propose that we let this run until Midnight tonight (Friday) GMT and then one of us (Wyvern, Balgin, Lily, myself, whoever wants to) submit this to HPI, either "sending as a page" or copy and pasting into an e-mail.

Any seconds on the proposal?

Moni 02-03-2001 12:33 AM

A good idea Saz...I'll let you more experienced folk handle the details but want to offer the suggestion that you let them know that this thread was only here for four days...to get this many good responses from so few who are/were actual members of this forum should say alot about its popularity!

I have really enjoyed playing W & W and hope to see a W & W 2 sometime in the near future. I have been playing RPG's for about 15 years and I do have to say that this game is definetly one of the top ten on my list. My suggestion would be to be able to advance in the elite roles (valkyrie, zenmaster) a little sooner in the game. By the time you can advance to these roles the game is almost over. Some people like to continue to go out and fight, but I on the other hand am finished with a game when my last quest is completed and have never played any RPG twice. Thank you for your time and I hope to see W & W 2 soon.

maggy 02-03-2001 01:57 AM

Count me in bottth me and DH have been well and truly hooked. Would love to see a follow on.

maxpower 02-03-2001 02:20 AM

Maybe this is to early to add my two penneth. I will be finnishing the game for the first whole time through in the next few days. I have played without the patch and have suffered minor problems from this. This hasn't really spoilt the game as such because of the good on going story to it, which has kept me avidly interested all the way through. At time in the game I thought that it would have been to hard , had I not been using the money cheat. But at getting to Brimlock Roon, I realised that this was probably down to my lack of experience with CRPG/RPG games, the game had proggresed at a good rate as everything comes together at the end and makes for an exciting finale.

After playing this game I will be trying other CRPG games and am looking forward to the Wizardry 8 that I have heard is coming soon. I hope that there is a W&W 2 or some sort of sequel based on the same game engine as I'm sure that the amount of information that is available now from this forum and other sources that most if not all bugs can be fixed.

I'm not going to rant and rave as to what should be in sequel to W&W as everyone has done it before me and the makers of the game know what the people want.

Lots of people complain about there not being enough different characters and foes in the game, but please remember that the game makers are restricted by the fact that the more characters there are in the game the bigger the install will be.

HP know what they should do and lets just hope they listen to such publications as this forum and make a bigger and better game than W&W.

Gary Bowring... (first time RPG'r now addicted thanks to W&W)

I LOVE this game! I bought it for my daughter while visiting her in California recently and now she is hooked too. I bought her one because I want to keep mine since I am not quite finished with it, and like others, will play it over again - for the first time ever. I would definately buy a WW2 without any reservations. I don't care if it has bugs or same old same old monsters - I would buy it and reccommend it to anyone who asked for a good game to play. Please oh please oh please make another one. And even if you don't, thank you for making this game. I have gotten very much entertainment from it and have met a GREAT bunch of folks at this forum.

W+W is the second best RPG I ever played, second only to Might+Magic 6. But I would prefer to wait 2 years for an even better and somewhat improved WW2 than to witness the M+M syndrome happen again to one of my alltime-favorites. I bought M+M 7 and have been disappointed (same game, no improvements, less difficult = no satisfaction). And W+W does need some improvement, as all the great people here have pointed out before me.

So my personal wish: PLEASE bring out a WW2, but do not haste it, take your time and make it a real RPG-thriller that brings us players even more fun, excitement and pleasure than this one!

Greetings to all of you out there!

Doriatha 02-04-2001 02:47 PM

Oops - Lost my last reply! I too love this game - but had to get past some of the frustrations. I will certainly buy the next game in this series. Some suggestions:

1. I agree with those who want a clock/calendar.

2. The town portal/teleportation spells could use an overhaul. I feel I should be able to have a choice of two or three places to teleport to. (Check out Might and Magic series). I got really tired of having to trudge through Dragonspire, etc. to get from town to town when I had this spell. It was too limited.

3. When going into a guild with a finished quest, I would have liked all the characters who had finished it to get their experience points at same time rather than listening to the same spiel 4, 5 or 6 times.

4. When fighting several monsters, it often seemed like they did not take their turns.

5. BETTER MAPPING SYSTEM. I'd like to see the entire map of where I've been a dungeon. It was source of endless frustration trying to figure out where to go to get out when I'd already been that way. I don't seem to recall the same frustration with Might and Magic or the BG series.

Draugr 06-05-2001 04:28 PM

My wish list cut from a new post I made.

If a Wizards & Warriors 2 was to be released I'd love for the game to have the following features.
1. Same look and feel as W&W.
2. A Full editor to create maps/items/npcs etc...
3. Single player game and Multiplayer game.
In the multiplayer game you would control one character only. Perhaps 16 or
more players could be online at once. The game would have a server/client
format. Of course player data would be stored on the server to prevent
hacking!
4. I was reading around and see there were a few great ideas that were scrapped
in W&W. I'd like to see them implemented in a W&W 2 game. They are:
A) Optional First or Third person view point.
B) Even in Single player you were supposed to be able to split your group
up.

Well, thats a quick layout of what I'd love to see implemented in a new version of W&W. PLEASE post any of your ideas or thoughts on this. I know it may never happen, but W&W was so much fun, I cant be the only person who feels this way. I'd love to see a bigger sequal!

Perhaps we can start a petition or something to let D.W Bradley know W&W was alot of fun and there are alot of us who still enjoy it. Perhaps if he sees there is a call for it, he may create a W&W 2 or a patch with the features that were originally supposed to be in W&W 1, but scrapped by Activision or the developers.

I love this game too...would be thrilled to buy a sequel...my wishlist for a second one...allows you to get the experience and advancement for a guild quest even if you do it out of order, more classes that you can ascend too...make the guild ranks go up to 20...and allow you an automatic max on the hit points when you move up a level (like in baldurs gate). Games like this are great!

Sorry, I missed this post everyone. Here I am signing my name to this petition. This has been a great experience to play this game and share it with people all around the world. Wizards and warriors was and still is a fun and exciting game to play. and if w&w2 is remotely close to the original, i would deffinatly buy it with no hesitation. i would probably pre order it. wish list:
1.) less buggy interface
2.) longer, more challenging monsters, and more quests
3.) multiplayer would be fun and interesting
4.) LESS DAMN BATS those are just annoying
5.) mantraps or other extremely hard monsters should not be engaged so early in the game
6.) finally maybe being able to explore the city and not just walking into the shops

i hope the consider making a sequel!!!

I'm putting my name on this because, well, W&W is an amazing game that really should have a sequel. This game doesn't really need that much in the way of change. There is one major thing that I gripe about, all of the bugs and glitches! Other than that, there isn't really too much that I would want changed.

Dr.Pick 06-06-2001 01:25 AM

I'm a newbie CRPG'r, and got instantly hooked on W&W! I was playing Heroes/M&M which is strictly turn based, and hence, less anxiety as experienced with M&M, and Warcraft, etc. I am totally converted by this game! I simply love the game play including the turn based combat, for reasons which should be obvious. There are numerous good ideas on this and other threads from this forum of intelligent and good natured people. I bought a second copy of this game for a friend while I was playing with a bad monitor! I could barely see at night, the crypt was nighttime with sunglasses, and water was this mysterious sound that appeared in certain areas that had vicious fish in it! Good thing I had a Wiskah! Ok, so I started out nearly blind and played on! then I got the new monitor, and I was in CRPG Heaven! I played on, then all of my characters went deaf! I continue to play! Eventually, I'll find a cure. They're holding a Telethon and a cure is surely right around the corner! Heeheee! :-D

DWB, harken not to the naysayers, nor give ear to the ingrates, but shew mercy upon your devoted fanatics, and give us the delight of our eyes, ears, fingertips, and minds! I agree with others who say you have a winner here and the makings of an even greater game for the future. We have confidence in your talents, and those of the team of your choosing, and we hold out the hope that Activision, in it's wisdom will see to it that a W&W II will one day grace the shelves of a store near YOU,and me, that sufficient time and resources be given to create a good quality game, and that the buying public will respond in kind providing profit and a good reputation for quality gaming.
