Do you have any favourite npc? In my case it is Kivan, I played BG1 several times and I always looked for him as soon as possible. I just donīt know what to do without his bow-skills.

Grungi 11-04-2002 09:25 AM

i never even used kivan, who is he, where do you meet him, and why is he good?

Bastet 11-04-2002 09:49 AM

Kivan is a ranger with very good shooting skills, and I think in the very beginnging you can find him near to the place where Thalantyr is selling his magic items.

Grungi 11-04-2002 11:31 AM

ah him, think i told him to fuc... er to go away oh well i rarely use missle weapons anyway im a melee man

purre 11-04-2002 12:04 PM

Is Kivan really that good? I have never had him (because he has never agreed to talk to me)in my party. My favorites are Xzar and Montaron (they are funny).

pritchke 11-04-2002 12:22 PM

Kivan, is pretty decent. I found him to be kinda low on hit points towards the end as a front line fighter but he is great for long range combat. He works well with Arjantis, and not so well with Viconia but I recommend putting those two together just for the conversation.

As for my favorite NPC, I can't really pick it is such a hard question. How about my worst, that would be any Bard, and Skie because you need to take that chump bard along just to get her.

Calaethis Dragonsbane 11-04-2002 12:31 PM

My FAv NPC would have to be Immy. LOL, I can remember when "we" first took down a pair of wolves and a blackbear ;) just outside Candlekeep, my Char would be dead if she hadn't been there... lol, and shes lighthearted I guess, my Char has these ridiculassly heavy lines he has to say, and Immy kinda balances that all out.

Keraptisdm 11-04-2002 01:18 PM

I have to agree with Calaethis, as I liked Imoen the best too. Her light heartedness was in stark contrast to the Main Character.
After her, I would say Yeslick.

Triconan 11-04-2002 02:05 PM

I like Boo the best (giant space hampsters rule!) But With kivan just give him a longbow of marksmanship and a few arrows +2 and you have a lot of dead enemies. :D

Sorcerer Alex 11-04-2002 02:35 PM

Kivan is my favourite. He is absolutely great. Give him a bow and watch things drop. Even at the beginning of the game, I can be a fighter with THAC0 17 and there he is with THAC0 12 at level two, killing everything in sight. Near the end of the game, I always check which NPC has the most kills to his or her name. It is always Kivan.

Keraptisdm 11-04-2002 03:09 PM

Are we talking favorite personality or favorite contributing party member? My previous post was based on favorite personality. But my favorite contributing party member - toss up between Kivan and Ajantis.

pritchke 11-04-2002 03:21 PM

I thought it was a combination of things but if I had to pick based on favorite contributing party member it would be Imoen mainly she is with you from the start and just so useful.

D*Ranged 11-04-2002 04:37 PM

I'm starting to like Yeslick but he certainly ain't the best either. In fact, he could be the weakest link in my party.

Oh, BTW, not to take the gloss off our fav. ranger Kivan, but I made an elven ranger with dex of 19 and the bow of marksmanship and I found her to be a KILLING machine with bows and that +2 long sword.

Tyrion 11-05-2002 03:57 AM

Minsc is nice!

LOL, I generally do that with MY ranger, only hes male I also give him the bracers of archery and boots of avoidence. ;) It helps cut down when facing pesty kobolt commandos, or black talons, or anyother shooty annoyance

Grungi 11-05-2002 07:56 AM

imoen is good but in contribution to the party its always my main char i think khalid though as my other tank has got the most kills, branwen i think has the least because most of the time shes healing or buffing everyone else and not actually hitting too much

SixOfSpades 11-05-2002 07:13 PM

purre: Your difficulty in talking to Khalid is most likely a result of sucking all your points from Charisma to put them elsewhere.

Kivan is, on all counts, an excellent character. His CON isn't great, but as a Warrior, he gets decent hitpoints anyway, so give him a good Bow and a good Spear or Halberd, and he'll be a great backup Tank for as long as your Rep. is good. However. As far as combat goes, there's not a damn thing Kivan can do that Coran can't do better. Archery-wise, he'd put Kivan's ass in a sling six times before breakfast, and let's not forget that he's all the Thief you'll ever need if you train him right. Sure, his STR is only 14 compared to Kivan's 18(12), but just give Coran the Gauntlets of Ogre Power, and then sit back and watch that bad boy Backstab. Sure, his picture is ugly as sin. So? Give him a new one. Sure, you can't recruit him until you're in Chapter 4. So? If you know the game, you can blaze through Chapters 1-3 fast as lightning. Once, I entered the Bandit Camp when my PC (a Fighter) was only Level 1....although he was Level 3 by the time we left.

Coran. Coran Coran Coran.

Grungi 11-06-2002 05:58 AM

Useless? You just named 3 of the 5 NPCs I chose for my Evil game. Add Shar-Teel, Viconia, and Fenris Melkior, and you've got the most horrific scourge that ever menaced the Sword Coast. That's right, I chose Xzar over Edwin.

NiceWorg 11-06-2002 07:34 PM

1. Germani (me) Check out

NPC? DYNAHEIR, Coran, Ajantis, Immy, Skie.

Khalid isnīt half bad either, better than his bravery would make you believe.

ah yeah but i dont play evil parties in bg simply because your meant to be nice to complete the main quest (well nice within reason) and id love more scope for evil actions but there isnt, fed up of all the evil guys complaining as i do the next step of the main quest and gain lots of reputation

Caramon Majeure 11-07-2002 01:07 PM

It HAS to be Minsc for me, just because at times he is the comedy relief of my party, and he's not too bad with a bow or a two handed sword.

Triconan 11-07-2002 02:40 PM

Grung, Don't you wish you could get the experiance of a quest without the rep bonuses. Well now you can! Just simply kill the person you helped instantly reducing your rep by as much as 10. *patent pending* For just 3 easy payments of 9.95.

Jes,you got it right! Xzar beats everyone!

Grungi 11-08-2002 07:24 AM

yeah but i dont like being evil in a game where i feel it will affect other things in the game, even though most of the time it doesnt, id love to just go slaughter everyone after they became useless to me but im never sure if i should cos it might have a knockon effect and spoil other quests

Tyrion 11-10-2002 02:49 PM

For fun commentaries, Tiax and Quayle are good.

You are so right. I always put most of the points to STR,CON,DEX, others get the leftovers(but this is only when I am somesort of fighter,I woudnt of course put all points to those if I was for example a mage).

SomeGuy 11-12-2002 07:22 PM

Minsc.He says funny things.
"Evil round every corner, careful not to step in any."
"Go for the eyes boo!RAGH!!!!!"
