This is really a simple question but I was really cutious... What is your main characters class or your fav. class? And what do you like and dislike about their abilities.

My class is Ranger, he uses a Greywolf's sword, a large shield +1, full plate mail, The Helm of Glory, the Algerons cloak, and ring of protection +2.

RANGERS ROCK OUT!!!!!!!!!!!

ryaldin 10-21-2002 12:02 AM

Fighters. Straight fighters. I know, tis shameful to be so doldrumly predictable (that is, if doldrumly is even a word), but i just love being able to achieve Grand Mastery in my weapon of choice (e.g. bows and a few *'s in long swords) so that i have some killer Thaco and damage stats. I love being the tank, and just wading into a pack of skeletons, flailing madly with fist and sword, flinging bones and spectral goo in all directions, madly tearing through the opposition, with some sort of spell or protection, to keep me from being hit by spells etc., and an armor class so low that they wonder if there's even hope of scoring a decent hit. I love it!!!!!

ryaldin 10-21-2002 12:03 AM

Oh, and welcome to 'yon forum young master Thaddeus!

Sorcerer Alex 10-21-2002 12:31 AM

I love mages. Having to rely on wit and strategies with magic in order to survive and deal out damage is a pleasant change from the usual hack and slash methods. I love the fact that you don't need a weapon, and that you get by through intelligence as opposed to brawn. I also enjoy the versitility of being a spellcaster; you can evoke a 'magic missle' spell and have the equivalent of arrows flying from your fingertips, cast 'invisibility' or 'knock' and you can be better than any rogue, or cast 'spirit armour' and strut around as if you were a fighter wearing chainmail.

Caramon Majeure 10-21-2002 12:11 PM

Well, I just started with him, but I really like my Paladin. They are fighters with Cleric spells, and special abilities. But he's still at the lower levels to.

I wish my name was Baggins 10-21-2002 05:15 PM

Welcome to the boards there ThaddeusKarine...My favorite class of character is a halfling fighter/thief...you get all of the abilities of the halfling thief and you still can use weapons like long swords and Composite bows.

Grungi 10-22-2002 06:01 AM

i go with fighter too, currently on an ac of -6 and i just wade into anything, even 20 black talon elite archers firing at him dont score a hit (like 60 arrows and no hits or maybe one if they get lucky) the rest of my party just lounge around in the background lighting up cigarettes and downing beers (well so id imagine )

ThaddeusKarine 11-01-2002 10:45 AM

Thank you for the welcome!!! Any way I just finished BG1 and my
Rager has some new toys. helm of Glory, Frostband(adefender+5 courtesy of drizzt),large shield +1, ring of protection +2, ring of free action, heavy plate mail, gauntlets of dexterity, boots of avoidance, and Algeron's cloak.

my ac is -10!!!!

Grungi 11-01-2002 10:55 AM

ac -9 now with my fighter -6 with my other one but when i get that full plate +1 i think ill be better

Welcome to the boards ThaddeusKarine.
I like Paladins. The glory of sending some evil creature back to hell is always appealing to me. :D

ThaddeusKarine 11-01-2002 12:55 PM

Thanks for the welcome again!

I started over and I have a Dwarf fighter with 19 cons.
he can have 15 hp points added per level, he's only level 5
but he has more hp than my level 8 ranger! it's crazy I tell
you, CRAZY!!! oooh k.... he travels alone and has full
proficiency on ax, but I just hate that fighters can be
overwhelmed so quikly.

Triconan 11-01-2002 10:40 PM

I usually play a thief/ranger but bg doesn't let that happen so I'm stuck with a ranger, no matter though. I've just started over and I beat the nashkell mines with a level 3 ranger, greywolfs sword, L shield +1, fullplate, ring of protection+1, and a mace for the skeletons.

Kormar the Wanderer 11-02-2002 04:10 AM

Prefered thief/mages, myself, or for characters I was going to export into BGII a thief dualed over. As someone said above I loved the power of a mage, since you can pretty well win any fight with their help. Also, using a mage almost forces you to work on who you accept into your party, since you have to be able to defend him/her while still covering all the basics...

Grungi 11-04-2002 06:56 AM

am i right in thinking this is a good idea:

get right up to completing the game so high level then dualclass my main char to something else and build up as much as i can (wont overtake my other level obviously but will be worked up, atm im fighter) is it worth doing this because im thinking i work my way up as a mage maybe (hear their really hard in bg2) so by the time i go to take sarevok on im say lvl 10 fighter lvl 6 mage or something realistic with the exp left in the game, or any class doesnt matter, but is it feasible to do that would i get the benefits of having high hps, high warrior stats etc in addition to being a powerful magic wielder?

D*Ranged 11-04-2002 04:50 PM

I like rangers simply because of the near - munchkin kit in the foirm of (SPOILER)Archer, not to mention the incredible ease of rolling their stats.

But then Fighter/Mage multiclass seems to appeal to me...the concept of those with multiple talents...

Midget Gems 11-05-2002 02:21 PM

I like to use multi-class and dual-class characters, especially ones that aren't available as NPC's. Big problem here for me is that the small races can't dual-class.

Some of my favourites are Fighter/Mage, Cleric/Mage and Thief/Cleric. The latter is much underrated, I get a Thief to 100% in traps, then dual-class to Cleric and use him/her as a front line trap specialist. Who would you rather send forward to find the traps, a Thief/Cleric with full armour and 'Sanctuary' or dear little Imoen.

purre 11-05-2002 02:47 PM

Mine favorite class is fighter, because of simple reason.He/she wont be first one to die,and can wear proper armor. This is quite boring class though,so sometimes nice change is needed. But I would NEVER again be a bard or have one in my party.

Why not bards? They can be fun if you know how to play with them. But then, they DO suck at ANYTHING, though...for that reason, or other statistical "problems", don't bother with eiither Garrick or Eldoth.

P.S. BTW, purre, Rangers, Paladins, CLerics, F/C can wear proper armours too.

</font>
No rangers, because they are stoopid (sorry for all who likes them),no paladins, because they are goody gooders,no clerics, because they are weak.

You mentioned just the reasons I dont take bards, they may be fun,but they are weak and not very good at anything.I once was a bard myself,it was more horrible than I could have imagined.

Calaethis Dragonsbane 11-05-2002 03:22 PM

hmm, favourite class check my sig lol, its a ranger: I have two tactics with my elf ;) a) longsword ("liberated" off greywolf) tower sheild +1 (or +2 if I can get it) full plate armour n a ring of protection +1. Boots of avoidence and bracers of archery . tactic b) heavy leather armour, (stongest I can find) boots of stealth, stealthy gear, (he hides in the shadows) and my longbow of marksmanship.

second fav class is a mage.

If it's so funny, try this:

"Those the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad! MAD! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Actually, once I was so bored that I started clicking everyone, and I can tell, that Xzar is the most funniest. Why is it that the maddest are the funniest?
BTW,I still laugh at those things they (npc) say.

Purre - 'tis music to my ears to hear you praise my small friends. Many is the time I've chuckled at their silly banter. Once, and only once, have I seen them come to blows - though I can't remember who won.

It is hard to think of a game without any small characters.Recently I have developed this habit of taking Monty and Tiax always to my party.Usually my character is halfling too.
