Probably one most people have thought of, but this is something i use now that im fed up of poisoned or magical arrows from the likes of 20 kobold commandos or hobgoblin elites, i tank as much as possible with anti archery magic items and ac boosting items one character and send him out front to soak all the arrows then send the rest of my party in, that way my weaker members dont die in seconds to alot of arrows, also be sure to equip your tank with potions of heal and antidote, this is also useful for attracting spellcasters, but vs spellcasters take as much anti magic spells or shields as possible.

obvious i know but worth it

large shield, boots of avoidance, magical full plate, helm & cloak of balduran, high DEX, you can easily get -15 missile AC. That pretty much means you only get hit by criticals. Normal damage since your wearing a helmet. 1 in 20 hits from 20 kobold commandos = 10 hits in the time it takes to dice-them hand to hand. Anyone with more than 60HP or some healing potions should be fine.

Mages can cast "protection from normal missiles", wonder on over and cast fireball at their lesiure, except most archers worth worrying about use magical missiles. Protection from magical weapons would help here, but thats BG2 only.

Yes. Ish. All I can remember for sure is having them, whether they were on the island or not I cant remember.

NO, Wait. Their in baldurs gate. The cloak is in the undercellar, the helm is in an inn.

the helm is in the 'Helm and Cloak Inn' - in a secret compartment (in a picture) in the back/1st floor room

the cloak in carried by Quenash(sp?) - a whore in the undercellar - can be pickpocketed.

The best anti-archer tactic is a single word...FIREBALL!!!!

Tyrion 10-22-2002 03:30 AM

What is the difference between Fireball and skull trap? I think teh skull trap is more effective since it's damage dosen't stop increasing at 12d6.
Am I wrong?

Grungi 10-22-2002 06:39 AM

it would be bad but for the fact monsters are dumb and bound to walk straight into it, all the trap spells (Warding rune etc) are superb cos monsters are soooooooooooo predictable they wont even try and avoid it most of the time so walk through and boom, though theres a trick here too

you dont want just the 1st guy triggering the trap and hitting a few fellows, you want maximum carnage, so lead the 1st guy and the rest just past your trap or ward then bring him back round by going at a diagonal that way the whole group passes through the trap but it should hit the side of the group preferably hitting every single guy in it

hard to explain that tactic but hope you understood it

badet 10-22-2002 06:47 AM

Hm, i got -10 at arrows with my druid, he's got boots of avoidance, and that blurry cloaky thingy you can by in the inn at ulgoth

Grungi 10-22-2002 06:54 AM

yeah but your level 8 so archers arent exactly a problem this tactic is mainly for level 3 to 6 parties who can get major problems vs archers

Harder to use - fireball is much easier in a surprise attack or in a confined space. Skull trap needs work to set up. Other than that, your not wrong.
