Drukus 12-16-2000 12:44 AM

Well, here is another useless poll:
Where and what is everyboys fav Wizards and Warriors web site?

My personal fav would have to be The Wizards and Warriors Story Archive

Its got everything.... including my picture! woo hoo!

Nothing else has my picture..... hence THIS is the best!

Any Chalenges?

Toad Village is for Toads!

freudianslip 12-16-2000 12:52 AM

An interesting thread, Drukus!
I must admit to being rather partial to this site, but this one isn't bad either. There's a lot of information at this one, but I like the design on this one as well. Hmm, so many choices! (hehehe)

Silverwolf 12-16-2000 02:09 PM

Well.. The Wizards and Warriors Story Archive does have some helpful stuff on it. But it seems to have more about the authors than it does about W&W.

Is there something I'm missing?

freudianslip 12-16-2000 02:28 PM

That is true, Silverwolf, it is first and foremost a fictional archive site. Its role is starting to expand to including a hints and tips section, and the mock interview with D.W. Bradley.

Wyvern 12-16-2000 02:46 PM

Good things grow slowly!

One of the nice things about The W&W Story Archive is that you and any poster here can help make it better and more useful as a source for hints.
I like it!

Frankenstein 12-16-2000 09:18 PM

Greetings Fellow Travellers,

Being that I'm fairly new to this list, but not to W&W, I will comment here. I will rate them on three categories, fun, informative and a special one that applies only to each site. All ratings are on a scale of 1 to 10.

And the candidates are (drum roll please):

1. http://www.tk421.net/wizardry/

I remember my friends telling me that this gentlemen pilfered hints from the numerous W&W boards, giving no credit to the people that actually discovered them. A very complete site, with great info on the older Wizardy series and my fav, Wiz 7. For the Wizards and Warriors section, I will have to give a thumbs down for the stealing and such. But all in all, a very good site!

Fun Rating: 1 (about as exciting as hemorrhoids, nothing personal).
Informative Rating: 9 (you've got a lot of good stuff, but you're still a thief)
Cheap Rip Off Rating: -7 (sorry man)

2. http://www.fallout.ru/wizwar/

I think you first need to upgrade your server from the PS/2 with a black market token ring card that you are running on. The site hardly loaded, whoops its not working at all. What a great site, it doesn't even work. It "rulez" the BSAOA I guess (Broken Server Association of America).

Of course, it may well be a good site, so I apologize if it may be.

Fun Rating: 0 (unrateable)
Informative Rating: 0 (urateable)
Go Cossacks Rating: 10 (Russia is very cool, so lets have some Vodka comrades!)

3. http://www.seastop.com/ww.htm

This site has it all, and more. Fanfics, gosh what talented writers and such creativity! And glad they are not harshing on poor DWB, its all in good fun. Some hints that are good, but so original and inspiring!

All you guys need are some massive hints and such to put on and it will be the best (and I can help, so don't hesitate to ask the Frankster). You guys rock! A little off the beaten path, but very good!

Fun Rating: 24 (TOAD VILLAGE IS FOR TOADS! I'm still laughing my butt off!)
Informative Rating: 7 (its not all about the game dynamics, but with some work it will be)
Originality Rating: 10 (Damn, you guys are clever! Kudos to Slip!)

Well, that's all I can say for now. Hope you are all are enjoying the game!

a) fallout.ru is very good server. May be American's telephone lines too fast for our servers? Fallout.ru - is good linux-based server!
b) What is fun rating for you?
c) Use PROMT translation engine to translate the site.
d) I'm working on new design, so it won't be any updates till new year.
e) We don't drink vodka so much (exept proffecional drinkers We drink beer "PETROVSKOYE" by Stepan Razin.
f) We aren't comrades 10 years already. And communists in Russia are appendix of old life. We are generally >60 years old.
g) Please visit my site after new year.

2GodMode *on RUSSIAN!*

А ты не додумался зайти на *мой* форум на ROLEMANCER'е? http://www.rpg.net.ru! Там в разделе форумы. Или с моего сайта!

You said, that it's great, that there is a site about WW on Russian. You said it so, that I think, that you consider, that the Russian Federation is backward country. May be we just have bad reputation? So, we have f@#king goverment.

P.S> Sorry for my bad phrase-building

Frankenstein 12-17-2000 12:59 AM

ZAP! Back to the top you go!

carg 12-17-2000 03:47 AM

Hre's another site:
http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/wiza...rs/index.shtml
The nice thing about this site is it has new news everyday according to the title, even though it hardly ever updates. Still there is some useful info on it. Too bad the walkthrough under 'downloads' covers only the first third of the game.

Still my votes go to toad-slip (esp. now he has published the hints I sent him.)

But let's give some originality credit to http://www.fallout.ru/wizwar/: I'd never have thought about publishing a fan site in russian!

GodMode 12-17-2000 06:57 AM

It looks like I’m only one russian fan of Wizardry and W&W here . Anyway, thanx for taking so serious first (and last) russian W&W site. Just check out spells section! - http://www.fallout.ru/wizwar/spells.html
Seems we don’t have much choice - i can find only four W&Wsites on the web - http://www.seastop.com/ww.htm, http://www.tk421.net/wizardry/, http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/wiza...rs/index.shtml, http://www.fallout.ru/wizwar/

GodMode 12-17-2000 08:30 AM

Just one more W&W site - http://darkslayers.com/deep6/index.html -vote for multiplayer patch. Multiplayer in W&W ???
Still no web rings or cheaters pages with trainers, editors e.t.c.

Wyvern 12-17-2000 10:45 AM

Nice review, Farnkenstein!!

GodMode - I think there are a couple other Russian players on the boards here somewhere. I think it's great that there is a W&W site in Russian!! So kewl!!

Thats is us, our site! And It is updated daily in some areas. We'll be completing the Walkthrough very soon with more tips too.. just been busy lately and have also been playing the preview Arcanum for a preview shot..

Ziroc 12-17-2000 03:39 PM

Why doesn't anyone like my site here at Ironworks? I know the walkthrough isn't complete yet, but it soon will be, with a bunch more tips I've yet to add (Lots of great stuff btw). We'll get these up Monday. I've worked really hard getting up as much in as little time as I have, but we'll have MUCH more soon!

I know that the W&W Story Archive is cool, but doesn't our site help you out? ah well, Anyway, keep checking the our site http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/wizardswarriors/ for the updates

PS: That Russian site is great!! Glad theres another new W&W site out there, they're scarce as it is

freudianslip 12-17-2000 04:00 PM

Yours is a very helpful site, Ziroc. The Archive has some hints and tips, but not the realm of info that the Ironworks site has. I've been content to (attempt) to cater a bit more to the role-playing/humour aspect of the game. I do think yours is the best out there I've seen though, in terms of game information. Keep up the good work!

GodMode 12-17-2000 04:04 PM

Ziroc, I like your site - it's was very helpful, your "Hints and Tips" section is great, but updates...

freudianslip 12-17-2000 04:16 PM

Hey, would you care to link to me Ziroc in your links section? I'll link you mine if you link me yours, as the old expression goes. *scratches head* *is that how it goes?*

Frankenstein 12-17-2000 05:49 PM

My apologies my Russian friend. I guess your site just didn't work last night! It looks very well done, but I don't know any Russian, ok I can say "Babushka" (means old lady, right?), but that's it!

So, I haven't looked at it more, but I'm sure its a fine site. I forgot that "comrade" denoted communist, so very sorry for the mix up.

Hmm, it seems we always have sterotypes about other countries. Here in the US we have these funny commercials for "Fosters" lager from Australia. Every Aussie I've talked said its horrible, and as a native from there once told me "Mate, Foster's tastes like a warm dingo dogs pi**, and no Aussie I know drinks it!"

I do have a friend who speaks some Russian, maybe I will have him help me out. Care to teach a few Russian words to us? I do like languages, very much so. And how to pronounce them?

Best wishes from the US

freudianslip 12-17-2000 06:16 PM

I am greatly appreciative of the great Russian institution of Vodka production

Or is that in and of itself a stereotype?

See, I am almost embrarrasingly ignorant of Russian archetypes. Here in America, the typical perception of Russia as a nation populated by large, unshaven women in fur hats bearing startingly good bottles of vodka, marvelous early 20th century orchestral composers, and excellent ballet dancers!

If you can release us from our ignorance and reveal some more thoughts, we shall be grateful!

freudianslip 12-17-2000 10:36 PM

Whenever I go out for a night on the town, I often think..

Sometimes I wonder if I'm sexy enough. When I walk into a singles bar with
my "fashionable" shirt, "fashionable" slacks, and a big new rubber
manta-ray helmet, I can't help wondering: Do women want to talk to me for
myself, or do they just want to get a feel of that nice rubber manta skin?

Lily the Ranger 12-18-2000 12:20 AM

I think there can never be enough sites. I sure do like coming here and bantering with anyone and I have had an absolute blast writing stories about my characters that Slip has been kind enough to put up as his site. When I needed help with Riven, there was one chatroom that contained some obviously young, young folks so busy exchanging obscenities that I just left. I NEVER did finish that game. Ironworks directed me here and I have had such fun. Corresponded with some FASCINATING people. Most people here are helpful and light-hearted. WW is a great game and should have all the support it can get. Hope it can all continue.

Ziroc 12-18-2000 02:32 AM

Freudianslip, will do - I also will add that great Russian site as well!

PS: I'm converting a HUGE walkthrough that Rick Volberding did on the Shurugeon Castle-Both a walkthrough AND a FULL MAP walkthrough with screenshots to walk you through every inch of it.. amazing detail. this ONE quest walkthrough has 20+ pages to it (to get an idea of the depth)-Rick, you rock!

The Walkthrough and links'll be up Sunday afternoon

Have a good one,

Ziroc

Cossacs & Vodka - rulez! Hamburgers & Nascar- sux! Beavis&Butthead - Mast Die! Lenin&Stalin- Forever! and so on...no fun Anyway, if Activision enabled again multiplayer in W&W we can play in one party as the TEAM.

carg 12-18-2000 04:26 AM

Sorry Ziroc about the critical notes about your site,
your's was the first I found, and the hints/tips section really got me going. Only then I started hoping there would come more, and checking the site I saw news with today's date: "New hints/tips added", so full of expectations I opened that section, and there was nothing new. Bummers.
Perhaps you could add a date to each message. I'm looking forward to new additions

Krom 12-18-2000 04:40 AM

GodMode! What do you want? You want americans to think that bears are still walking along the streets with the bottle of vodka? Russia is civilized country, but our goverment can't manipulate so big country.

xenotoca 12-18-2000 06:49 AM

Godmode and Krom
dont worry about what those Americians think we here in the UK know Russia is just like America full of Mafioso. Why do you think we let that colony go so early.

But seriously dont know about the US but here in the UK we have the weird expectation that everybody should speak English so more power to you for taking part in the forum in what is not your native tounge. Dont worry that you Goverment cannot manage such a large country our Goverment cannot even manage this little one.

Wizards and Warriors of the world unite

GodMode 12-18-2000 07:52 AM

Ooops!Sorry, Krom,- wrong vodka- i asked my bear to give me "Stolychnaya",but this stupid animal bring me "Moskovskaya"
How 'bout make link to Ziroc and Freudianslip's sites ? Too bad that time in America and Russia so different. May be you can contact American web-masters by ICQ off-line?
Xenotoca
No offence taken. We just discuss W&W sites on _WEB_. If site is bad - is bad, no matter what nation make it The question is "How good are you?" ,not "Where you from?"

Wyvern 12-18-2000 10:00 AM

Krom - I said it was great to see a Russian W&W because I think it is wonderful that people all over the world share an interest and I really enjoyed visiting the site. There is nothing insulting in that comment, implied or intended. I'm sorry that you thought the remark was some sort of insult.

I don't know if anyone is familiar with "Pinky and the Brain" (two lab mice trying to take over the world). Should we take over the world? I get a bit (really, really) discouraged when I look at any government. Perhaps we could make all people happy by furnishing free CRPG games? I am not an just American, I am a very odd human being, I am a Ranger/Samurai/Assassin/Valkyrie (wannabe). And I need some coffee. Keep those hints and spoilers and MAPS coming!!! All are welcome but abandon all hope ye who enter here (my house is a mess!).

Hi all,

This is my site, so I feel obligated to respond to the dash of cold water quoted above.

The purpose of my site is to provide information on Wizardry and Wizards & Warriors to the fans. Period. There are no ad banners, affiliate sales links, or any other commercial items clogging the site.

Much information within the site is built upon other sources, and there is a credits page devoted to giving original author attributions.

The various Wizards & Warriors bug lists and hints were compiled by myself, taken from a variety of overlapping fora and personal discoveries and correspondence. The prose was all crafted by myself from scratch, and in many cases, including the classes data, bugs, cheats, and especially the walkthrough, several entries are based on discoveries I made on my own.

When the game was released, many of the bugs and cheating vulnerabilities were repeatedly cross-posted to various forums, making it difficult for me to bother including an original author attribution on each one. Just because someone posts something to a forum doesn't necessarily mean that they discovered it on their own, or for that matter that I read the post before adding the material to my site.

I'm sorry if for these reasons my attempts to compile a valuable gaming resource is viewed with such disdain as "pilfered hints" and a "Cheap Rip Off", but I'd just like to point out that my site represents an effort devoted to making a valuable site for the fans, and not made for any sort of commercial profit or intended violation or mis-attribution others' discoveries.

Ah, You've got a pretty cool site, But I wish you gave me credit (Atleast a link) for using that W&W Map I scanned in, and totally redid. )I had to digitally erase all the areas names because the type came in rather blurry, so I re-typed it all in Photoshop).

Took me a good 2 hours http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif

I don't know if ya know this or not, but I run this entire site by myself, and that means EVERY area http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...miles/wink.gif, Baldurs Gate 1,2, Icewind Dale, Darkstone Wizards & Warriors etc. So its hard to update it daily, but I do add things weekly usually (Like more quests or user's tips sometimes).

I'll be adding some more user tips this Monday btw, I've really gotten a lot of GREAT tips in email--Thanks to all that sent them in!!
