Well, earlier decided to pop in the ol IWD2 and give it another go. I was looking for something godly (of course) but original. Now I think I found something, as I know its not thaaat original but I havent seen one in party's or other guides to characters. I was just messin around with stats, combos ETC and I found out that a Drow barbarian, (possibly the two most opposite race/class) is actually quite amazing, check out the stats.
18 STR (For max damage + too hit of course) 20 DEX (Gives a nice + AC, which is crucial for picking the drow) 16 CON (Ouch, why I dont think many people choose a barb/drow, but I can make up for it) 5 INT (whoever said a barb needed to be smart?) 16 WIS (Great spell defense, expecially when combined with the drows natural magic resist) 5 CHA (Now tell me one person thats been charmed by a barbarian) The way I see it, you get good strength, enough to last you for the rest of the game (maybye HOW), 20 dex which adds an awsome +5 AC and gives you a reason to add a sheild to get the rest of the DEX bonus. 16 CON is probably the biggest weakness but still, with rage upon level up he still gets good HP, and fortitude saves arent that big of a deal, expecially with innate MR, and 16 wisdom for added spell protection. I was thinking of throwing in a paladin level and getting 16 CHA instead of WIS, but then I would incure the %20 EXP penalty. With greater rage, this guy could be an awsome damage dealer. I threw in the Bastard sord (un)balancing mod, and im looking at an awsome, resisting, melee damage dealer that could do amazing things in the rest of the game. I backed him up with a drow sorcerer (couldnt remember stats but they pretty regular) and its looking to be an interesting game. Any comments, suggestions are appreciated. |
With a 20 dexterity, I guess you don't plan on wearing armor. Also, you couldn't add a paladin level if you wanted to, barbarians can't be lawful.
imho, the most powerful character builds lie with single-classed spellcasters and multiclassed tanks. i am just trying to figure them out now. ;) |
Can't be multiclassed with Paladin since Barbs can't be lawful.

I like it. There are some armors that will allow a +5 Dex bonus, so you should end up with a great AC. Additionally, I love tanks with spell resistance. If you decide that XP penalty isn't a factor, adding a few levels of rogue wouldn't be a bad choice; evasion plus extra damage for sneak attack, although if you're using bastard swords you couldn't take advantage of sneak attack.

No weapon restrictions, other than you have to use a melee weapon. But it's still impossible to have a Barbarian/Paladin (unfortunately).
|
Well, could he go toe to toe with the baddies in the game w/ a con of only 16?
|
Oh, aren't there? I thought SA was restricted to weapons that a rogue is allowed to use. Maybe I'm getting it mixed with IWD1. It makes sense to have restrictions - it's a little hard to stab someone in the back with a 6-foot greataxe without them noticing your windup.

In IWD2, tyou dont even need to be hidden to sneak attack, you just need to flank the enemy.

Besides, this guy will have a great AC, so HP is a secondary factor for tankiness. |

I'm not aware of any weapon restrictions on sneak attack. That said, my rogues almost always end up wielding short swords, since I nearly always have my medium STR, max DEX rogues using weapon finesse.
