Okay, so this is a bit of shameless self promotion .... lol

The WyndzofWar site is up and running again under new management. Mike (wyndz) and I are feverishly adding new portraits as we speak. In addition we have zipped the large and small portraits into one file to make downloading easier and to reduce the demand on bandlimits. The pictures are shown in smaller versions on the site, but the downloadable zip files contain the proper sized images.

Check it out:

EDIT: The old link has been removed as the site will have a NEW location - you can remove the old link from your bookmarks etc. as it will NOT work anymore.

I will post the NEW link when the site is FINALLY back up and running!!!!

Micah Foehammer 10-10-2002 10:21 PM

Thanks.

We've got some great males to add still, including a couple of half-orcs that we hope people will like.

Check back in a day or two for some more updates.

Paladin2000 10-11-2002 01:56 AM

Very, very good work on the portraits. Thumbs up!

I found a good one for my male fighter: page 1, 5th from the left.

Cloudbringer 10-11-2002 10:12 AM

Wonderful news, Micah! :D

Micah Foehammer 10-11-2002 02:41 PM

Thanks Cloudy.

Wyndz and I are doing another update right now.

Micah Foehammer 10-14-2002 09:43 PM

The update is almost finished and should be up tomorrow (Tueday the 15th) evening. We added over 10 pages of portraits, and we still have a long way to go.

The new site link is as follows:

Edit: Link removed ......

Follow the "enter" link to the portraits, and please sign our guestbook. We're always interested in feedback, suggestions or general comments.

I'll have to go check it out, then. The standard portraits are not that great....

I'd scan a picture of myself to use as one of my character's portraits, but I wouldn't want my character to suffer that much.

Micah Foehammer 10-15-2002 06:36 PM

Latest update is now up and running. More to come.

SomeGuy 10-15-2002 07:25 PM

Can someone tell me how to actually get portraits to work!?

Micah Foehammer 10-15-2002 10:00 PM

It's easy really.

Go to your main IcewindDale 2 folder (it's probably called D:/Program Files/Black Isle/Icewind Dale II/)

Create a new folder called "Portraits"

Download your portraits to the folder

Make sure the portraits are in 24 bit bmp format

The file names should conform to this convention:

xxxxxxxL.bmp (210 x 330 pixels)

xxxxxxxS.bmp (42 x 42 pixels)

The "x"'s can be anything you want up to but not exceeding 7 characters

Now you're ready to go. When you start a new character, simply hit the CUSTOM button when you get to the appearance screen and a new window will open and you can select the portrait pair you want. If you want to edit an old character, simply go to the character record screen, hit customize and then hit custom when the first portrait screen comes up. VOILA!

If you're downloading portraits from our site, left click on the small portrait on the website, and it will download a zip file containing both the L and S sized portraits. Unzip the contents of the zip file into your Portraits folder and you're all set.

Have fun.

SomeGuy 10-17-2002 11:59 AM

Hey thanks Micah!Boy it's always great to have a dude like you to help out!

Edit: Do I need to put the pixels part on it?

Micah Foehammer 10-17-2002 07:28 PM

You mean the stuff in parentheses after the file names? No, that was just a guide for other people who might want to make their own portraits.

The file names should just be:

xxxxxxxL.bmp

or

xxxxxxxS.bmp

Micah Foehammer 10-22-2002 10:21 PM

Bump .....

Latest updates are now up, with two more pages of portraits.

We are going to do another update on Thursday or Friday.

Micah Foehammer 10-27-2002 06:10 PM

bumping again ...

another round of IWD2 updates are up as of October 27th

Luvian 10-27-2002 06:19 PM

Huh... Faraday is not a rogue, she is a priestess...

Micah Foehammer 10-29-2002 09:26 AM

Luvian,

Which port are you referring to?

Luvian 10-31-2002 03:07 AM

l2fRog3.jpg and f114.zip

That's Faraday, she is a priestess of the earth godess, in the Wayfarer: Redemption trilogy from Sara Douglass. This picture is a part of the cover of book one.

Warhammer 10-31-2002 06:37 AM

Yeah great job Micah. My 6 drow party (5 of 'em female) would not have been possible w/o you

Micah Foehammer 10-31-2002 08:03 AM

@ Luvian,

Thanks for the info. That's my bad - I used the original Luis Royo artwork for that portrait, (with some minor edits) and it looked more "roguish" than anything else to me. (The sword on her back threw me off I guess). Because of the way we are archiving these ports, it may be a while before we can get those bmp file names changed. We're still trying to add more content.

@Warhammer,

Glad you liked them. I wish I could take credit for ALL of the drow, but the ports marked with edits were done by my partner Wyndz. He's a magician when it comes to drow; in fact it's an obsession. Check back from time to time, because I am POSITIVE that he will have some more of his drow edits.

Micah Foehammer 11-03-2002 07:36 AM

Latest updates are now up. We've added another page of females for IWD2 and two pages (one male and one female) for NWN.

Attalus 11-03-2002 09:32 AM

Love it, Micah. I downloaded ten portraits. We now have a party of one male (my pally, Attalus, o'course, and my other two characters, Vlana, a female barbarian( I used that statuesque blonde portrait in the game - she looks barbaric, and a female Ranger, Arwen, who uses one of yours. Galadria has the mage Galadria (o'course), Chorania the drow Priestess of Helm, and Imoen, with your custom portrait that you did for her.

Micah Foehammer 11-03-2002 12:00 PM

Thanks Attalus.

I'm off on another websearch today to find some more artwork. We're still trying to get all of the old ports up on the site. I've forgotten how many portraits we actually had up before.

Micah Foehammer 11-09-2002 10:57 AM

Latest IWD2 update is now up (November 9th). Male page 15 and female page 9

Attalus 11-09-2002 06:07 PM

Great stuff, as usual.

Gimli 11-09-2002 06:19 PM

These are very cool, my current party has all of its pics from your site!

Micah Foehammer 11-09-2002 10:11 PM

@Gimli and Attalus, THANKS!!! Mike and I love to hear that people are actually USING the ports.

BTW, Mike just sent me a proof of some BEARDED DWARVEN FEMALES that he did!!!!!!!!! LOL
Look for them at the next update, - maybe in a week.

SomeGuy 11-11-2002 06:38 PM

Do the portraits have to have a the symbol thingy when they get on your comp as a paint bucket thing with paint brushes in it.(The microsoft paint sign) Because I have dowloaded different ones and the pic thingy look like a picture being painted or something and they won't work for it.

Micah Foehammer 11-11-2002 09:22 PM

Make sure that you are downloading the zip files by left clicking on the thumbnails and NOT just saving the thumbnail portraits (which are jpeg format and will NOT work). Then unzip the files to your portrait directory. Make sure that all of the unzipped bmp portrait files have names that are 8 characters long (some of them do NOT and they need to be changed unfortunately - use the RENAME function). If that still doesn't solve the problem, pm me and give me the file name of one portrait that isn't working and I'll check it out. All of the portrait SIZES are correct and the right format so they should work othewise.

Micah Foehammer 11-15-2002 03:34 PM

Latest update will be up tonight. (November 15th, ~6 pm CST)

We've added another 35 IWD2 ports and another 30 NWN ports.

Look for some more of our "Underdark Brigade". Duergar, Deep gnomes and some more drow.

Latest IWD2 portraits are now up. (11/27)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Luvian 11-27-2002 06:19 PM

Nice! I really like your new female portraits! I was looking for some good female drow and barbarian portraits.

Micah Foehammer 11-27-2002 09:13 PM

Thanks Luvian. Glad you found what you were looking for.

Attalus 11-30-2002 10:44 AM

Grr, Micah, I still can't make those portraits show up, all I get is forlders with two files in them. What am I doing wrong?

Micah Foehammer 11-30-2002 09:21 PM

SOME of the IWD2 zip files are designed so that when you extract the contents, they extract to a FOLDER and NOT as seperate files. Move the contents (the two BMP files) of the download folders to the Portraits folder. ALSO, double check the file names within the folders - some of the file names exceed the legal 8 character limits. The files should be labelled like this:

xxxxxxxL.bmp

or

xxxxxxxS.bmp

where the x's can NOT be more than 7 characters in length exclusive of the L and S.

You may have to restart the game once you change the portraits to get them to show up.

ALSO, make sure you are not downloading NWN formatted portraits for use in IWD2 - I know it sounds silly but a LOT of people have been doing that. lol

Attalus 12-01-2002 12:22 PM

All right, I now have 4 out of 6 of my party with your portraits, Micah: Attalus (mine), and Galadria, Imoen, and Viconia (Laurie's), Would you please look at my "Annah and Fall from Grace thread". I have .gif images of the big portraits (haven't found the small- "The Pit" website used to have them, but they folded, I guess.) Anyway, the link that I had for them wouldn't work.

Micah Foehammer 12-15-2002 07:09 AM

Latest update is now up - added page 18 to the IWD2 males and filled in page 11 on the IWD2 females to a full page. Plus we added an almost two dozen new NWN portraits.

Enjoy.

Piestrider 12-17-2002 06:35 PM

I'm trying to download a portrait for my party but a screen keeps popping up saying that your site is disabled and something about Homestead. Is the site down temporarily?

Micah Foehammer 12-17-2002 07:36 PM

Piestrider,

Yes, unfortunately the site is down until we find a new home for it. It's a long drawn out story, but Mike and I are moving the site off Homestead and onto a new provider - once we find one that is.

The good news is that we have all of the ports archived. The bad news is that it is going to take us some time to rebuild the site. :(

Sorry about the problem, but the move is a total necessity.

Piestrider 12-17-2002 11:00 PM

Sorry to hear that. Now i'll just have to wait to get a cool portrait. :(
I'm sure I'll live. :D
