I have only explored the sewers once or twice during all of my various campaigns. Mainly because I hate the narrow passage ways and all the Carrion Crawlers and Phase Spiders that you run into. Now I was getting a little bored with all the same-old same-old that happens above ground in the city. So decided to give the sewers another try. I was near the Flaming Fist HQ when decided to plunge down. Well, low and behold I ran smack into a fella (actually a blob of slime) named 'Schlumpsha the Sewer King', along with his goonies. Now I'm guessing that he's a very influential and infamous member of the underground society, for two reasons. First, he calls himself "the Sewer King", and lastly, he knew ALOT about me and my background.
Now I guess I would like to know if this Blob (which I have killed), is the source of all the mysterious deaths that Scar is worrying about? Or do I need to continue hunting for the real culprit(s)? |
SPOILER
* * * * * * * * * * * * I can't remember that well, but I think the murders are caused by a man-orc, who treats the carrion crawlers as pets. You'll know when you find him, beacuse you'll see bodies littered everywhere. |
spoiler
- - - - - - - - - It is an ogre-mage who is responsible - the easiest way to find him is to go down into the sewers through the entry right behind Sorcerous Sundries. Remember to get the ruby ring for scar. |
Spoiler
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - Believe it or not, Scar actually DID advise you to start your search in the east sector of the city; thereby, making the culprit of the crimes almost impossible to miss. And yes, it is an Ogre Mage. P.S. Anyone ever actually have trouble with Ogre-mages at this point in the game, or were you, like me, remembering harder fights you've had with a pack of gibberlings? |
Scar said that the tracks leading into the sewer openings suggested "some kind of many-legged creature." And, of course, Mustard Jellies don't have legs, even if they are Sewer Kings.
- - - - - - - - - - The Ogre-Mage was a doddle, but by that stage of the game, what isn't? |
POSSIBLE SPOILER
- - - - - - - - - - - - Six, true, I still remember when I was first attacked by golems, in BG2, in Irenicus's Dungeon in Athkatla. I almost had a heartattack untill I saw how my party completely tore them up. |
Thanks everyone.
However, I'm still a little flabergasted as to why this "Sewer King" knew so much about my PC's past and future. Is he an element of a separate quest that I have yet to discover? Or is he just another part of the woodwork within this game? Also, I haven't found this Quenash lady yet who supposedly holds this...(Spoiler) * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ... Cloak of Balduran. Now I understand that she is a lady of ill-repute, so it would make good sense to look for her at night. But, what I really want to know is whether she is above ground or below? Nothing more, nothing less. I just want to know if she is above or below. Thanks again. |
Quenesh lady is below ground and you can reach her either through the sewers, the blushing mermaid or the Iron Throne basement

Schlumpsha's origins are never revealed.....Perhaps he was a psionic or a Diviner that was slowly polymophed into a Mustard Jelly. He seems happy with the result, I sure wouldn't be.
|
Schlumpsa could also be a mage's left over desert gone bad, but then again who knows.
|
Did anyone ever kill the ogre mage and his 'pets' then go to Scar and have Scar seem not to recognize that the [roblem is gone? This happened to me, and only on my way through Bg city in my second game did I get the quest...but I sold the ruby ring by mistake (ooops).
|
Thanks everyone. I'll try not to lose too much sleep over this Schlumpsha guy. However, I wonder what would happen if someone tried polymorghing him? Maybe he would turn back into his former self, as a human/mage. Eeehhh... probably not. But it sure would have been a neat qwuirk if the developers had put it in the game.

Oh, I'm sure they had the basics lined out waaaaaay in advance. Once they get going, designers (like me) just don't know when to shut up.
P.S. She doesn't say "Elven mage, Jon Irenicus," she says, "Arch-mage, Jon Icarus." It was the beta-version of his name, before they decided to make it sound less Greek. |

jeromy[/QB]
Acutally if you speak to Lord Foreshadow at the Naskel Carnival you can see that they already planned to make Neverwinter Nights. |
Actually, I beleive that there are a series of books about the whole Forgotten Realms, and they were published well before the idea to make this game ever came forth. But I'm not positive on this.
My brother in-law who didn't particularly like playing Baldur's Gate (poor graphics), said that he could remember years ago reading a really good book that was entirely about Drizzt Do'Urden. I didn't ask him what the title was however. So anyways, most of these characters and plots were thought out well in advance. [ 07-30-2002, 07:01 AM: Message edited by: Sir Heinrich Godfrie IV ] |
Yeah, there are a bunch of Forgotten Realms books. The Drizzt Do'Urden ones are called the Dark Elf trilogies, by R.A. Salvatore, adn the Crystal Shard trilogy (I think its' a trilogy).
The first Dark Elf triogy is about Drizzts' child hood, and growing up, and the second one focuses more on the Ten Towns time/area (I think). |
MY GOD, YOu PEOPLE DONT KNOW???
forgotten realms is a Huge D&D campain setting, there are actually like 10 REALLY good books about drizzt. starting with one called homeland. drizzt was created by R.A. Salvatore. forgotten realms has been around for, like 15 years. if you want to gain a GREAT DEAL of understanding about the game series then get the D&D forgotten realms worldbook by wizards of the coast. it tells you lots of things. in the game drizzt was gouing to save his halfling freind, regis, from the assasin entriri. heck, even my sig is a quote from drizzt get the forgotten realms worldbook read it understand |
But do Drizzt and co. ever search for a pink war hammer in the books, hmmmmm? :D
|
actually the Icewind Dale trilogy was out first then Salvatore did a prequel with the Dark Elf trilogy then Legacy of the Drow and so on. Anyways, Forgotten Realms is the most populor fantasy world and they are hundreds of books of it. Elmister and Volo are also in a lot of Forgotten Realms novels. Myth Drannor, Neverwinter Nights and Icewind Dale are all parts of Faerun. O and Bruenor (the dwarf guy) forged the hammer for his friend Wulfgar, if thats what your talking about.

Giga Ettin, what do you mean used to love them? I don't care how advanced we get with the gaming experience; I'll always be able to go back to the first nintendo system. I still play the big fat clunky grey gameboy for goodness sake.
|
