This is a little embarassing, but I seem to have struck an impasse in Heart of Winter, and I only just started! I've visited the barbarian camp and cleared out Burial Isle; speaking of which, I can't find the shaman who was exiled there for sticking up for me in the camp. What now? I've sold the demonic armor to the mage, I've killed all the ghost shamans and the spirit animals, I've killed Mebdinga and acquired the marred seal of Wylfdene, I've picked the pocket of every NPC I can (Purvis, unexpectedly, yielded quite a nice ring), I even tried killing the barbarian camp (I took out 17 before the last few finished me off hehe). I've had the little XP dialogues with Tybald/Hallie, and the Council member. One of the trappers was found slain in the woods (which I can't get to yet, strange since Emmerich is expecting progress reports on the white wolf he believes resonsible for killing the trapper).

Help?

The shaman is on a little island to the NW. There are two ways to get to the island.

1. Through the tombs under burial island. In the NW of the tombs is a set of stairs should have some drowned undead on them, at the top of those stairs is a passage.
2. From the NW(outside) of Burial Island you can Use Dimension door to teleport your mage over to the small island. Just make sure you have an extra one to Dimension Door back.

Hint: Keep reporting back to Emmerich and the trappers after each time you rest.

Dimension door isn't cheese, it is a valid efficient tactic for a mage. :D Besides my mages feet get sore doing all that tramping around, as well he likes to keep his boots clean.

There is one specific place in HoW where you HAVE to use Dimension Door in order to be able to retrieve a VERY nice amulet. How can it be cheese when the game is designed for you to USE a spell?

<font color = lightgreen>I agree. True cheese would be editing Dimension Door to have a range of 250 and removing the flags "not city" so that you can cast it through walls or at points outside your line of sight...but I don't know anyone who would do that. no you dont... if you make the remorhaz move as much south as it can and kill it there you can retrieve the amulet without dimension door... just tell your character to pick it up... although he wont reach it if you wait a little (15-20 secs)he will be able to pick it up

EDIT: spoiler tag

ZFR, I had read about that approach on the Interplay Forums but never got it to work for me. It must be fairly sensitive to exctly where the remorhaz dies.

Its strange because it worked for me the two times i played it without me trying to position the remorhaz in a specific place...

and as to the dimension door I dont think its chess unless you use it to bypass areas you were not meant to... using it to get to Hjollder on Burial Isle IS a cheese therefore, but its not cheese to use it to get amulet or in other fights to get your mage away when he gets swarmed by mellee..

Using it to get to Hjollder on Burial Isle IS a cheese.

I still don't think it is cheese because you are still forced to go underground after. There is no avoiding it, and I think it is better to do it with the door because if not you will likely find the ------- before Hjollder even gives you the quest.
