In addition to these two mods, there is a potentially useful tweak available for those who favor the use of missile weapons. The tweak replaces the scroll case in Pomab's store inventory with an ammo belt that should store a large number of arrows, bolts and/or sling bullets.

It is available as a small .zip file and the installation seems to be rather straightforward -- just unzip the archive into the IWD override folder. It can be downloaded here Scroll about 2/3 of the way down the page to find it.

Working my way through Project Auril right now. It provides some really decent armor right from the start. Elvish armor can be bought in Kundahar. I ditched one suit so my fighter mage could use a cloak that I found.

Armor class 1
Int +2
Con +2
Dex +2

Several NPC's are added and I have gotten an extra quest after going through the glacier. The downside to this mod is no TotLM so I am thinking the other mod with no extra quest will probaly be better. Will try it after this one.

Malavon's Rage 12-18-2002 09:24 PM

is there a mod so you can play as elminster out there that you know of?

Cyril Darkcloud 12-18-2002 09:48 PM

I have not seen any mods, either completed or proposed that would allow someone to play as Elminster.

If you'd really like to do so, however, you might be able to do a decent job of simulating Elminster's stats for one of your characters by using an editor such as Dalekeeper.

Good Charlotte Fan 12-19-2002 11:22 AM

I'm new to all this, and I was wondering? What's a mod? If you don't mind my asking...

Cyril Darkcloud 12-19-2002 11:32 AM

We don't mind at all, Good Charlotte Fan ;) Ask away!

A mod is a user created [and therefore unofficial] change or expansion to the original game. Some mods, for example, add new items or spells. Others might adjust features in the game such as the experience point cap that determines the maximum level of your characters. Others add new quests or rework the game by changing the storyline somewhat.

At their best, they provide a bit more flexibility to the gaming experience, especially for those who have played through the original game a couple times. But like any unofficial add-on, the quality can vary a bit so it's a good idea to check out what other gamers who've tried them have to say before installing them yourself.

Malavon's Rage 12-20-2002 04:09 PM

a couple more questions, where can i download dalekeeper, how do i use it, and is there a thing like dalekeeper for IWD2?

Malavon's Rage 12-20-2002 04:10 PM

and another question, what does elminsters staff do?

Malavon's Rage 12-20-2002 04:11 PM

oh heck, i might as well ask, what is all of eminsters equipment that you guys know of so then i can make them when i learn how to?

Cyril Darkcloud 12-20-2002 05:11 PM

Dalekeeper can be downloaded from this location. This site also has basic information on how to use the program.

Dalekeeper II for IWD2 is currently in beta. If you'd like to download and test the lates version of the program check out the discussion on thi s page. In one of the posts near the bottom of the page there should be a link to download the most recent beta version of the program.

I can't help you with information on Elminster or any other Forgotten Realms setting characters as that is not a setting that I use for gaming [with the exception of a couple CRPGs of course ;) ]

Just giving this a bump up.

I hate losing important information like links to add ons, patchs etc.

Micah Foehammer 01-10-2003 09:29 AM

pritchke,

I take it that the Project Auril Mod is ONLY compatible with a IWD/HOW load and NOT an IWD/HOW/TOLM load?

Unfortunatly Project Auril Mod is ONLY compatible with a IWD/HOW load. I have almost completed my game and it did have quite a few surprises. Next time I may try the other mod so I can have TotLM added on.

Micah Foehammer 01-10-2003 11:24 AM

pritchke,

Thanks. I already have TOLM added in so I'll probably have to resort to just using the other mod.

pritchke 01-20-2003 12:37 PM

This needs another bump as not to get lost.

I am impressed with the traffic on here this week.

Micah Foehammer 01-20-2003 02:41 PM

Pritchke, Have you heard whether they are a planning a TOLM compatible version of the Project Auril mod?

Yes, I have heard something about that but I am not sure if it is true or not. I don't think it would take much time as it is basically just fix the existing mod for it to work with TOLM.

Micah Foehammer 01-20-2003 02:50 PM

Well, i won't be totally deflated if that doesn;t happen. Besides I just downloaded two of the BG2 mods as well as several others for BG1 and some NWN mods as well. I THINK I can get them all on one cd - but its going to be close! lol

pritchke 01-20-2003 02:57 PM

That is not a bad idea burning all the mods to a cd. Right now all my executables are sitting in a folder, if something goes horribly wrong with my system I will have to download tham all again, plus it saves the space of not having to keep them on your computer.

Micah Foehammer 01-20-2003 03:33 PM

I can download things at work over a dedicated T3 line or at home over a dial-up. Guess which one I chose? lol So burning a cd to transport from office to home is required - plus it gives me an automatic backup.

pritchke 01-20-2003 03:53 PM

I really can't imagine downloading something like TotLM with dial up . Not only would it take forever but there is a chance of being cut off in the middle of the process.

Micah Foehammer 01-20-2003 04:18 PM

LOL Actually I was thinking of the big BG2 mods Darkest Day and Soubar which are over 300 megs each.

Peytin of Rothmire 01-21-2003 11:00 PM

Micah, do you have links for these BG2 mods?

Thanks.

Micah Foehammer 01-22-2003 08:21 AM

Sure,

I'll give you the team bg links and they will likely redirect you to fileplanet.

http://tdd.teambg.net/

http://www.teambg.net/soubar/?go=download

Teambg has several other mods that you might want to check out.

The Shadows over Soubar mod also has a v1.0.1 patch - you should download that as well.

Lord Brass 01-22-2003 08:30 AM

They're available h ere at TeamBG. The reason they don't work together I think is soemthing to do with overwriting the dialgo.tlk file each time they are used/installed. Someone might fix it, but I haven't really heard too much of late. Probably more concerned with playing IWD2.

Sorry about that. You got there just before me Micah.

Micah Foehammer 01-22-2003 09:05 AM

LOL No problem Lord Brass. Good tip about the mods though. Some of them do NOT work together and its not always clear which ones DO and which ones don't.

pritchke 01-29-2003 11:18 AM

just a bumb

Lord Brass 01-29-2003 07:56 PM

The TeamBG website says that Winter's Bane is compatible, if Project Auril is installed last. I think we should all be aware though that both require HoW, and that there is a version of WB for either HoW or HoW with TotLM installed. So you'll need to get the right one as required.

pritchke 02-14-2003 02:57 PM

Bump!!!

pritchke 03-03-2003 10:59 AM

I am not sure if Return to the north will ever be finished.

pritchke 04-04-2003 01:29 PM

Well I am going to try solo(First Time) with a Fighter/Mage/Thief using the Winters Bane mod.

I noticed a new spell that my mage can learn: Serpent's Skin - Gives +1 armour and gives +2 to saves against poison. Seems pretty good but I don't think I will need it before dragons eye.

pritchke 04-29-2003 01:58 PM

Well I have had a chance to run the two mods and I have to say I like Project Auril the best, it provides some extra challenges, and battles so makes the game slightly tougher, as well as provides some really great items.

The Winters Bane mod is nice but it doesn't add anything to combat so it is almost not worth installing. It does give some extra spells and nice items but if you are not playing with TotLM I really would not bother adding it as Project Auril is the better mod. With Winters Bane there is a piece of elven armour to be found in Dragons eye but it is a little on the heavy side. It says it weighs 5lbs but it is more like 70lbs.
