Ok, when i bought my BG2 It was on DVD and i got HOW free with it (clever marketing idea eh?), and i was just wondering *Is* IWD worth buying, because i have BG2 SoA and ToB and i like them alot. Or Should i wait untill IWD 2?

If I was I your postion I would get it is a good one. Most people would say its not as good as the BG series beacuse there is no NPC in your party, but that i feel gives you more of an excuse to stop and think of a good team instead of just taking on people how come by.

so I would do it, it has a geat tree town of Kuldarhar, makes you feel like you just walked into a forest elven home. so I would do it.

IWD is available for some fairly low prices now. With a FREE copy of HOW and the TOL expansion pack available for free as well, how can you possible NOT buy IWD!?? [img]smile.gif[/img]

I have only recently gotten into RPGs - and gaming in general. I saw Icewind Dale for a tenner in a shop in my Town Centre, so I bought it straight off. It looks SO good - lovely manual, colour map included, quick reference card... I want to get around to playing it soon. I like its idea of developing your own party. I wanted that aspect in Baldur's Gate.

I still haven't finished Baldur's gate yet - I only just started playing it a week ago! It has utterly addicted me, so I can only imagine IWD will also rob me of anyt spare time I have left.

I've gotten really far in IWD and it is an awesome game. But once you beat it you should go for the really hard-core RPG games like Pool of Radiance because that takes a lot more talent to beat.

Try changing to Heart of Fury mode in IWD and start a new game with a first level party and THEN tell me that IWD is easy to beat. [img]smile.gif[/img]

As for POR2, i already have enough coasters around the house, I don't need any more.

IWD is one of the best RPGs out there!!
As for POR2 i was one of the misleads that now have that coaster.

Have I just made a BIG mistake Micah? Or is that what you mean by Gold Box (only mine is a nice pretty blue box - I got it cheap if that helps).

Make absolutely sure that you download and install ALL of the patches for POR2 if you decide to keep it. The game, as it was first released, was SERIOUSLY bugged. So much so that people who uninstalled it because of the early bugs had a nasty surprise. Uninstalling it on some systems actually wiped out critical WIndows operating system files! The patches are supposed to have corrected those uninstall problems.

In all fairness, there are some people who really liked the game.

The gold box series also had a Pool of Radiance game in it I believe. The new game, POR 2, is NOT the gold box version.

I like most games, except for Silver and Heroes of Might and Magic III complete which I hated. They are up for grabs if anyone wants them.

Until I stumbled upon the BG series I had never heard of D&D much less AD&D, I just liked the way the games played.

So the 2nd edition rules and 3rd edition rules argument sort of go over my head a little bit.

I wlll give this a try, the guy in HMV where I bought it knows me and he says if I don't like it I can swap it.

They have Wizardry 8 in there too, waddya think?

In fact, give me a list of the stuff you think I would like, bearing in mind I LOVE the BG series, and am looking forward to IWD2 and Neverwinter Nights,

<font color = lightgreen>The recent PoR:RoMD has nothing to do with the old 1987 gold-box PoR, except the name similarities and the setting of the game (good old Phlan).

They might not have been able to afford delaying the game release to fix bugs.</font>

I have only been playing IWD for a few days (and I'm in the Vale), but so far it is completely worth the money I spent on it. It is interesting, involved, and the setting/plot feels like an older CRPG that I enjoyed enjoyed some years ago. All retail stores around here have dropped the price to approximately $20. That's what I got it for. So I'd say that despite the new IWD 2 coming out, IWD is still very much worth buying. (And hopefully you will be able to transfer your character from IWD to IWD 2)

I agree -- I've gotten more than my money's worth out of the game. With the expansions installed its replay-ability is very high.</font>

yer i would say give it the thumbs up, and get it , true there is less on the NPC and makes you think of making your own party.

On a more personal level I just like the more open spaces of IWD.
