I am rather flustered at the moment so I thought I'd better come to Ironworks to take a few deep breaths and settle down before I turn into the slayer and attack my computer in a fit of rage. :D
After about ten epic battle reloads trying various things against Sendai, I finally won it with only one death in the party. Sendai likes to drop in the 'harm spell' every now and again in melee and I never rotated ol' Korgy fast enough. But his sacrifice wasn't all in vain, when she finally fell. Or so I'd hoped... Ok, now - the very act of resurrecting a character is not something I do normally ever in an RPG, unless its almost semi-urgent and feels almost forced. Its just a second ed D&D thing I used to fear, not liking the inevitable -1 to CON it used to cost. But here, because this battle is just so gruelling, I feel justified in wanting to do it. A problem arose in finding a place of repose so that I could memorise a raise dead spell, of which the only I have is the HLA, Mass Raise Dead. You get ambushed by drow if you try in Sendai's enclave (as you should!) but I was desperate. So in order to do this, I used the pocket plane back to the planar stronghold. I did this WHILST Korgan was dead. Ok, so I rest, I memorise Mass Raise Dead and bring him back. He's alive and calling us a 'grand lot' in his guttural way. Its great to have him back. However, its all in vain I tell you! After I had the fantastic encounter with doubt, I then attempted to leave the planar stronghold again with my renewed party. But for some strange reason, I can not see or control Korgan!! He has disappeared, lost in a void i'm imagining... I tried telling him to leave and getting minsc to join (I dumped him for Sarevok...) but this doesn't work either. I still arrive back outside the stronghold with only five characters. I figure that the game hasn't registered somehow that I now have a full alive party just because I left the enclave with only five characters alive. Thus, it still assumes Korgan is dead. Grr! Any quick ideas? I wonder if this has happened to anyone..eek, I should have checked. I don't want to do the Sendai enclave again for the third time! :D [ 05-07-2004, 04:08 PM: Message edited by: CerebroDragon ] |
Are you fully patched?
|
Yes. Most definitely. Got the latest when I installed ToB. (That was fast Xen!)
I'm experimenting more just now. Korgan was in the first character slot, so I changed him with my main character with the logic that since he's the only one that operate the 'pocket plane ability', he should still remain the party regardless. Well, when I went to leave the pocket plane like this, the game froze in full screen, with all my characters standing out front the exit, motionless. Quite strange... |
Did you pick his stuff when he died?
|
Yes, I figured that was important when I realised I couldn't rest in the enclave to save trips. So I shared it around between everyone. Thankfully all of it seems to have travelled ok. I gave him back his stuff when I resurrected him in the planar Stronghold.
Hmm. Should I have left in though instead? I wonder if this makes a difference...maybe not, but its worth a shot. EDIT: No, it doesn't. It still won't show him in my party after I ressurect him and exit the planar stronghold. Very bizarre. If I try to move his items around (his photo is still there and alive) it says he is too far away, yet if I try to put his items down, they disappear! I'm almost out of ideas now! Maybe I'll sleep on it and try again and check back here tomorrow... [ 05-07-2004, 04:43 PM: Message edited by: CerebroDragon ] |
Try clicking on just his portrait & using...
CLUAControl:MoveToArea("AR4500") ... while the rest of your party is in the Pocket Plane. That should move him to the Pocket Plane as well. - Imrahil |
ahh, the infamous CLUA console. This is the first time I've turned to it in a time of dire need!
So I took some time first to understand how to get it working... Thanks for the tip Imrahil, but sadly even though I copy and pasted the exact line, I don't think it is working, as I get the response: Active Stack Active Stack lua: indexed expression not a table Perhaps its a case sensitive thing and I'm not entering it properly? I'll keep experimenting...as I'm not giving up on it yet! [ 05-08-2004, 11:20 AM: Message edited by: CerebroDragon ] |
Well, thankfully I kept the autosave from when my party was mourning the valiantly dead Korgan, as after some research and tinkering around with CLUA, all it took was a simple CTRL+R and the mad dwarf was back ever ready to crack skulls again! :D
Seems like this has fixed the problem! Thanks again to Imrahil for getting me back on track. |

CLUAConsole:MoveToArea("AR4500") ;) |
Its inconsequential now Lord, but thanks for clearing that up as well.
It was a strange bug and i'm glad to be moving forwards from it. I'm now trundling through the final level of Watcher's Keep, as I decided to take a break from the plot and the potential nastiness of Abzigal. If Sendai was anything to go by, i'm expecting it to it/he to be quite tough indeed. Spoilerish on the final level of WK: I have the three keys of heart, mind and spirit and are inserting and turning the keys and holding my breath at what beasts spew forth. After winning one battle, I began in all earnest on the second, which includes a lich of some dire kind. (how many liches I wonder are there in this game?) I suffered a weird crash about half way through this battle, so I took a break and came to Ironworks. Hopefully, I won't get too many more before I finish the game for good. :D |
Be afraid, be VERY AFRAID. I tried multiple times to get past the last set of guardians, gave up and went to Abzigal's place. The Lich group was easy but the last group with a hive mother and a multiarmed walking food processor was just too much. Even with two blades that are Vorpel.
Now of course I am stuck in Abzigals lair trying to best him. Got by his son but this guy is too much. The best weapon I seem to have is magic sword. Other than that its stay clear try to stay out from under his wings. |
Slight SPOILER!!!
~ ~ ~ ~ Abazigal suffers from the same ol' dragon tactics as all other dragons do, Mirror Image. Lower Magic Resistance, etcetera etcetera |

I nearly soiled my pants with fear when I charged Korgan with the all mighty axe of unwielding +5, loaded to the teeth with steroidal Hormonal Level(A)Implants, only to have him come back to me as a hacked up ke-bab. Very tough fight that. I kept most weaker party members to the extreme right and used many defense oriented spells before rushing in to turn the last key. Rotate your tanks as often as needed and engage in a remorseless pummeling of those closest to your party. Energy blades and powerful summonings (Deva's, Elementals) worked really well for me to keep them at bay too. You may need a well timed Pierce Magic or something similar to remove some spell protections from that evil Sword wielding Sheeva abomination you mentioned. :D |

I also was able to Pocket Plane away in the middle of the fight using this tactic, because one of the creatures never figured out where I'd gone. So I was able to go, rest up, and come back and kick its ass. I still can't get past Draconis. Of course, it's been nearly a month since I've tried, I was so disheartened. Maybe I'll try that again soon. |
