...of how you managed to turn Saladrex into Salad-Mix! :D

He really is a charming old fellow and at our first meeting, I enjoyed parlaying with him immensely. Sadly, the loopy egomaniacal and rather agoraphobic twit of a lizard did not acknowledge the fact that his daddy creator had been slaughtered by my hand. This insult, heightened by the fact that he actually had heard the little fights going on between the illithid and githyanki, meant that I grew tired of his seeming uselessness (selective hearing?) very quickly.

But so far, my attempts to orchestrate his death are being thwarted by his diabolical breathweapon! I cowered in fear after the first time. And even if you hide in the corner near the stairwell, the big red lug can still cook you from behind the archway. Jan's traps are working the best so far, I landed about 120-140 damage at one point. Salad-head seems to see further than the other dragons - can anyone confirm this or is it just 'cos I got caught laying traps too many times? :D

Magicwise, I'm going bezerk on cloudkill, skulltrap with usual long list of protective spells, which do minor damage but not consistently enough. He's also been saving against greator malison which is another I used in the same combination to kill Firkraag and the other dragons with. The only time we've managed to touch him physically, was when minsc was confused and out of my control. :D I'm sure he'll bow down to my will eventually!

So yes, send in any amusements in your tales of saladicing!!

Cheers,
Cerebrodragon

¬_¬ Using PfFire spells comes to mind... ...

teardropmina 04-23-2004 02:22 PM

most recently, sent the 115 fire resisting Mazzy to make him turn red circled; then my Sorcerer time-stopped and yadi-yada...but not finished him, just making him Near Death. Finally Jaheira marched in to get the kill (before this kill Jaheira's MPV is Balor which is shameful compared to others' MPVs ^^).

Illumina Drathiran'ar 04-23-2004 02:32 PM

Ah yes, I enjoy letting characters finish off powerful creatures so the MPV is balanced.

I managed to finish him off with Faldorn (Solo avenger druid, look for The Chronicles of Faldorn) with a summoned deva, a simulacrum, and LOTS of energy blades. The deva cast Remove Fear and the only thing I had to do was keep a safe distance from him when he cast whichever insect summoning spell he cast. Hell, I was even able to rest in his chamber when I ducked out of sight! He was a piece of cake.
But that was just my experience. Toss summons his way and attack from afar, and don't be afraid to duck out of the way. And the Red Dragon Plate, Ring of Fire Resistance, Helm of Brilliance, the Dragon Helm and Shield, Protection from Fire, Resist Fire/Cold, and Ring of Fire Elemental Control will all come in handy during this fight.

CerebroDragon 04-24-2004 05:02 AM

Hmmm. Piece of cake eh? I must have chosen some very inefficient strategies then, as I found him quite the challenge. Indeed, if not for the fortuitous timing of a successful Sunnis summoning, I think I'd still probably be reloading and wracking my brain for more methods to negate his dire breathweapon. :D

Anyway, I basically buffed up my fighters first, (yes, with prot from fire spells, thanks Dundee!) then went bezerk with Jan by making a line of traps in the centre of his chamber. I then used an Edwina simulacrum and made some skull traps, easing closer to our prey. I then threw death fog, a couple of cloud kills with Jan and Edwina to get his attention as my Avenger began to summon the lucky elemental. I'd almost lucked out and killed him in a previous battle with Chan as a tank, but this time I lucked out with Sunnis and sent him, Korgan and Minsc to keep him occupied whilst everyone else retreated in case of sudden whooshing fire.

Sunnis was surprisingly effective and I managed to get in a greater malison which worked and as we retreated back, all of the traps we set came into play, blatting ol' Salady into Near deathness. A couple more blows from the tanks and he was finally dead beneath our feet. Huzzah!

Honestly, I found him in my experience to be possibly the toughest dragon encounter, as none of the other dragons seemingly have his fire-power. Saladrex was able to still kill my party when we were cowering in deepest corners of the stairway!

And he kicks melee ass too... Personally, I think the worst thing he has opposed to other dragons is his spell turning...

Xen 04-24-2004 02:43 PM

How did I beat him? With cheese. Stacked good old Spike Traps and he died in a matter of seconds.

Assassin 04-24-2004 06:40 PM

Lower Resistance. Greater Malison. Doom. ADHW/Finger of Death. Improved Haste. Protection from Fire. Breach. Magic Missile.

Actually, Improved Haste was the one that really killed him. With that and PfF and Breach, he's toast.

LadyLuthien 04-26-2004 12:06 PM

I think I did just fine with my party... I summoned a Planetar, cast Remove Fear and Haste on the group, possibly Defensive Harmony (can't quite remember). I had Anomen cast Righteous Magic and Holy Power on himself, and had him, Minsc and Jaheira as my up front attackers. Imoen, Aerie and my Wild Mage hung back, with Aerie doing the emergency healings, Imoen and the Wild Mage just pelting Saladrex with spell after spell.

Oh yes, and I always make sure that Anomen, Aerie and Jaheira have two Chaotic Commands spells memorized each, that way everyone in my party is always under the effects of that spell, so they NEVER get Charmed or Confused. I really can't imagine getting through a game without that.

The one I'm having a lousy time with is Draconis. After getting killed like six or seven times, I decided to go after Sendai first. I'm done with that, and returned to fight Draconis, and he kicked my ass again. I guess I'll try him again tonight.

@ LadyLuthien,

your Wild Mage and Imoen should be able to Time-Stop from their own spellbooks by now. If so, Draco isn't hard to deal with. Or give Aerie a Time Stop scroll, she can finish Draco all by herself easily.

Similiar to Illumina, summon Deva, Lion figurine, spider figurine, energy blades, simulacrum, protection from fire on everyone, resist fear, bomb away with energy blades (5 sets or so) and down he went first crack.

Daniel Copeland 04-29-2004 01:11 AM

My way was the simplest. Spell protections like crazy, then melee uisng my fighters' HLAs while my mages sent offensive spell after offensive spell. A few magic missiles, whirlwinds, and critical strikes later, and he was tossed-saledrex

uaciaut 04-29-2004 01:56 PM

I remember once i barely finished talking to him when he died; think it was many critical strikes or something; i once killed Demogorgon insta-fast (not that fast - he was injured, with a lot of spells and attacking , but holding on, and then POOF he was dead)
