I Wonder if the stalker is whort playing whit?Cous i think %3 in backstabb is *Bad* I could yuse an assasin for that. And for the fighting skill i could yuse a Fighter ***** Katana.

And whye yuse a Stalker when you can yuse a Fighter/Thief got the weapon ability and got beter backstabbing (%5)so i a stalker whort playing whit or shud i shoose a F/T?

Stalkers are DEFINATELY worth it!! And the backstabbing is wrong, you have to add 1x to every backstab value it says in the description ;) I am currently playing one, and it's my most fun game yet I use the optimal stealth ability ( it's almost impossible not to start with 100+ stealth) to lure too tough creatures away and backstab weaker enemies to death. I really like the sneaksman strategy with this guy. So, TRY IT! :D

Jrk ...(1-8 %1...9-16 % 2...17+=3% So and i think thaat f/t is alot beter

JrKASperov 08-05-2003 09:42 AM

Seriously, they do NOT get what the description says. I was shocked to find that out too! My lvl 9 stalker did triple damage! The description gives the damage ADDED or something...

Sonic 08-05-2003 09:49 AM

ok....

It's not only a question of backstabbing.
Stalkers pros versus fighter/thief
+ great hiding ability (with a thief you'd probbly put a lot of points into other thieving skills too)
+ Cleric spells
+ charm animals (comes in handy more often than you think)
+ racial enemy (extremely useful bonuses against a monster class of your choice)
+ free ++ in dual wielding

Also with a f/t you have to take either multiclass = slow level up
or dualclass = weak fighter part.
I've played a female Stalker and it was one of the most fun games (and I've completed BG2 a lot of time).

Stalker`s are worth it.
But why are you asking this if you haven`t played one? Play and you`ll see.

A power gamer would generally picka fighter/thief over a stalker. More spec points allowed in weapons, a better backstab and other thieving skills too. However I play purely for roleplaying and I feel the multi and dual classes are overpowered and have less of an identity. Why use stalker if you can use fighter thief? Why use blade if you can use fighter/mage? Having said this I try my best to ignore the fact multi and dual classes exist and don't play them or have them in my group

I kind of feel that the whole multi calss idea and dual class idea was a little wrong on the grounds of roleplaying. Some of the NPC's like Havarian, (swashbucler/mage) and that guy who runs the adventure mart Rybald, (figter mage) are obviously dual and multi classed. This means you can't escape the multi and dual classes even if you choose to not use them yourself.

Just my two cents

Firstly, welcome to Ironworks! Secondly, why do you dislike dual classes and multiclasses on a role playing basis? In real life, people can start of in one career but then switch over to something totally different. I think that's it's a great addition to the game because it provides so much more variety.

Hey, thanks for the welcome I guess I see them as a power gamers alternative to the single classes. Though they kind of aint too against roleplaying I guess, I don't like the way they make other classes kind of redundant unless you want to roleplay them.

The examples in this post being stalker. I cannot see any other reason than roleplay to be one as if you wanted a strong character with most of his abilities and other ones on top you play multi class fighter thief.

Some of the high level abilities vex me too. Things like the uber traps being available to normal thieves and not just bounty hunters. Things like greater whirlwind really cheat blades out of their original offensive ability. Use any item was a bit much too I guess I could say they're bad from a roleplay point of view too, but I think it is really more of a game balance issue. I actually remove a lot of these abilities from the game

There is one aspect where Fighter/Thieves are arguably better than stalkers:

High Level Abilities! Rangers get all the usual fighter stuff + one largely neclegible skill.

Fighter/Thieves get's access to such wonderful things as Assassination, Spike Traps, the evasion skills and the frequently abused Use Any Item.
