I HAVE to check this out! Artemis Entreri is my frickin' hero!!!
*holds up his Artemis Is #2 foam finger* Jarlaxle is first ^_^.
Question by someone who is not into AD&D besides BG1, BG2 and ToB: Who is Artemis Entreri? (Puzzled face) And Jarlaxle only appeared shortly in Ust Natha, didn't he? But what is his secret? Enlighten me.
Artemis Entreri is a character created by Robert Salvatore. Entreri is the sworn enemy of that renowned drow ranger Drizzt Do'Urden. Seems that the gaming community is mostly split into the three factions: "Hate Driztt, love Entreri", "Love Drizzt, Hate Entreri" or "I have more important things to do than argue about which character is better.". LOL
Jarlaxle actually makes an appearance in several of Salvatores books. In one of them he is actually the main character, along with our good friend Artemis Entreri.

Artemis hates Drizzt because their fighting skills are equal. But while Drizzt defends high principles, Entreri thinks they make him weak. Drizzt's existance proves that Entreri's life is a lie (well, I try to use the formulations from books ;) ). So, if E defeats D, he would prove that soulless fighter fights better than the one with soul. Basically that.
And it is Faerun . |
Entreri has sacrificed a possible life full of friendship and enjoyment to hone his fighting skills. Drizzt has both friends and unique skills. Therefore, it proves Entreri's life has been wasted ;)

Thanks for the information about Jarlaxle and Entreri. I think it's about time I go and get the books by Salvatore. Maybe I'll join one of the three factions then, Micah Foehammer. It's obviously a matter of great concern...

Isn't Jarlaxe the drow Mercenary in The Dark Elf Trilogy? I don't remember him being in The Crystal Shard? What other books is he in after the Dark Elf Trology?(Haven't read that far yet).

Jarlaxe puzzles me as a character because he seems different than most drow, and yet he is nothing like Drizzit either as he is obviously evil but seems sort of cultural and reasonable in nature. So I would not mind knowing the other books he is in as well. |
Pritchke, the book you're refering to is not Crystal Shard, it's Servant of the Shard. It's the third book of the fourth series written by Salvatore that deal with Drizzt. Crystal Shard is the first book of the Icewind Dale Trilogy, the first book written about Drizzt actually, but in the timeline the Dark Elf Trilogy comes before it.
Drizzt Timeline Dark Elf Trilogy - 1.Homeland 2.Exile 3.Sojourn Icewind Dale Trilogy - 1.Crystal Shard 2.Streams of Silver 3.Halfling's Gem Legacy of the Drow - 1.The Legacy 2.Starless Night 3.Siege of Darkness 4.Passage of Dawn Paths of Darkness - 1.Silent Blade 2.Spine of the World 3.Servant of the Shard 4.Sea of Swords Hunter's Blades Tilogy - 1.Thousand Orcs (current trilogy, book two out October or November of this year) Also, if you are interested in more info on these books you might give Amazon.com a look, it's got some great reviews and timelines and such on each book. You don't need to buy anything and it's a great source of forgotten realms novel information. [ 05-16-2003, 10:15 PM: Message edited by: slimjimosu ] |
Oh Yah Thanks! "Servant of the Shard" I read the IWD trilogy as well probaly why I got the titles mixed up.
But why do you want to CTRL-Q him anyway? It is a cheat...rather make a mod...
Thanks for the confirmation Pritchke and Slimjimosu. I've just recently started reading these books I've read the Icewind Dale Trilogy and am on the Dark Elf Trilogy. That's why I got confused when Pritchke said he was in "The Crystal Shard". Nearly finished The Dark Elf Trilogy then I'm on to The Legacy of the Drow... Interesting to hear there's characters from The Cleric Quintet in these books. I have that but haven't read it yet.
Zarr i just finished the cleric quintet and i liked it quite a bit. It had a different feel from the drizzt novels. Lots of growth from Cadderly (the main character) and a nice love story. The CQ group shows up in Passage to Dawn and Servant of the Shard and the dwarves are in Thousand Orcs. I wouldn't be surprised to see salvatore bring the group along in further drizzt novels too. Good luck with your reading, i enjoyed them all very much.
Hmmm thanks Slimjimosu. I guess that means I should read The Cleric Quintet before I read Passage of dawn and Servant of the Shard. Lot's of reading to do! ;)
Well, I've started making mods, but I have no idea about this history behind him. If someone said to me "Artemis Entreri" I would have said "Who?".....
