Hello all :D
I think the title of this topic is pretty selfexplantory(sp?)
This is meant for a normal 6 player party...so no 2 party stuff and such

(If I maken any grammar mistakes, you can say it to me, so I wont do it wrong agian:P:D)

Khazraj 03-08-2003 07:52 PM

Haer'Dalis. Cool personality and soundset. Also pick him up at level 15 and he has 2* in Longswords. He will seem broken just level him up at level 16 and he's fine.

Gangrell 03-08-2003 09:42 PM

Sarevok, he's an awesome tank and he's the best for one main reason, Deathbringer Assault ;)

SixOfSpades 03-09-2003 02:12 AM

Jan Jansen. Nothing like being Multiclassed in ToB, especially when it's one part Thief and one part Mage. Time Stop + Time Trap + Assassination is my kinda lovin'. I can sacrifice Abi-Dalzim's in exchange for one more Project Image....who can then cast Abi-Dalzim's from the scroll.

Shadowbane 03-09-2003 02:57 AM

I'll have to go with Jan Jansen as well because he's the only thief that can level up and I used his skills the most while playing (spells, high lore, all thieving skills plus HLA traps). I haven't tried Sarevok yet, but will do so when I get an evil party together.

Zarr 03-09-2003 08:58 AM

I like Jan Jansen too never have a party without him, however Mazzy is my favorite.

ps Shadowbane- Yoshimo can level up although I know why you didn't include him.

Sola is very good too, in my opinion; Jan is very cool but in many games i gave him up for Imoen, because she is a better mage and gets better Bhaalspawn Abilities with Ascension Mod. Anyway my picks would be Sarevok(greatest fighter yet; best 2h-pity he can wield Carsomyr-, and if u're patient he can be very good halberd wielder for Ravager), Sola(very good fighter-mage; gets Dimension door and combines perfectly tank&spellcaster modes) and Edwin(BEST mage npc). i haven't played Valen yet but i heard she is good 2. Too bad there aren't any npc Kensais or Monks.

Glendahar Greymist 03-12-2003 07:28 PM

I am partial to Haer'dalis as well. Personality is a big plus for me.I have not used any evil npc's.

madjim 03-13-2003 04:20 PM

funny, I always found the hairy one to fragile to be much of use.

Xen 03-13-2003 04:49 PM

Sarevok-BHAAL HIMSELF

Sir Goulum 03-14-2003 06:20 PM

Keldorn or Imoen

Indemaijinj 03-14-2003 07:33 PM

Mazzy, Teh sexiest!!

After that it'll be Jan. His dialogues with some of the other NPC's cracks me up (though his banter about turnips is slightly annoying in the long run).

I also like Anomen and Imoen and Korgan.

Sparhawk, Warrior of the light 03-25-2003 06:32 AM

MINSC! I never travel the realms without Minsc and Boo, He's not the best NPC in the game but I find he has the best attitude and is a fully capiable fighter. And also always have Imoen as shes your sister in the game and is cute and is a Bhaalspawn. And the same for both of them goes for Sarevok in TOB. But as the best I'd have to say, ......ummmmmm. I dunno Keldorn with his inquistor abils really helping my party but he does dye alot. Ummmmmmm yeah Anomen is a massive tank complimented by powerful spells but has a whole lot of attitude. So yeah probably Sarevok.

I hope you mean dye as in artificially coloring stuff. (So THAT'S what he's been doing over at the Radiant Heart all this time...poor Maria!) Keldorn is in my latest party and if I wasn't so hung up on Anomen I'd probably be for Keldorn. Great attitude, easy-listening sound set, and those Inquisitor abilities! His gear? Plenty of nice stuff to choose from, and you don't even have to spend coin on the best pieces!

So why is he dying all the time? You are able to take off his Firecam plate--he's just the only one who can wear it. Slap a good AC plate on him, give him some other choice items, and wowee kazowee, he's a tank! Torm take you! ::SPLAT!::

Gangrell 03-26-2003 04:29 AM

Keldorn is a pretty decent tank, but I usually use him against mages. Reason being because of his True Sight ability.

Ps- Where did all the Anomen fans suddenly appear?

IronDragon 03-26-2003 12:01 PM

I avoided Valygar for the longest time but now I can’t imagine a party without him. He is a great tank and when he duel wields FoA and Celestial Fury nothing stands in his way.

shadowhound 03-28-2003 05:51 PM

Saverok or Edwin

shadowolf03 03-31-2003 02:28 PM

....I wonder why no one said Aerie?

Kaltia 03-31-2003 03:09 PM

Because she sucks
Viconia.

Dace De'Briago 03-31-2003 03:28 PM

Aerie has to be the most irritating character in the game, she just wont stop whining.

For me, I think the best npc is Edwin/Edwina. 'His' storyline cracked me up I'll concede that Minsc and Jan are also pretty fun to have around :D

pcgiant 04-01-2003 04:18 AM

Best NPC? Hmmm. That's a tough one. I'll have to say Keldorn, because he's an honourable man and (for anyone who's beaten the game with him) his epilogue is undoubtedly the best!

I should create a clan called the Keldorn Firecam Clan, or KFC. :D

LordSephiroth 04-01-2003 03:55 PM

Aerie doesnt suck, shes just annoying. In one of my games i concentrated really hard on getting her to survive because she was my romance. So i gave her the chain+5 and crom a good sheild etc. She rocked, i would tank with her on low level enemies just cause it looked so funny. And if i really needed her to fight id just cast tensers. She got hurt, no prob, chain contengency set to heal and whatever else. She has a really odd set of abilities due to the fact that she has all the spells except druid. If you know what youre doing you can really get her to fit well into any situation. Most people seem to just give her a robe and a staff, tell her to cast magic missles and then gripe and say that Imoen/Nalia or Viconia is better. I dare to say no, can viconia tank with stoneskin haste mirror image spell trap...,can Imoen cast sanctuary in the middle of a battle to heal/rebuff themselves or set their chain contingences to heal? Properly used Aerie is oddly effective.

dulouz 04-03-2003 12:26 PM

I'll agree with you LordSephiroth. Aerie can be a great asset to a group. It's a matter of finding proper equipment for her, like you said. Just because she's a mage, don't skimp out and give her a lousy sling or staff. Give her, heck, buy her items that up her stats like you would with any other character.

She's not anoying, she's unique. I'm using Anomen and Jaheira as my healers this time through for variety, but i like aerie better.

Sparhawk, Warrior of the light 04-05-2003 03:21 AM

I find Aerie too weak for me, I can see that she'd be really powerful later in the game but I'd rather have, Imoen as her banter is better and shes your sister why would you go all the way thro the game and not take her plus shes a Bhaalspawn. But as a Mage i'd rather have Sola and as a cleric Anomen just cos they're all rounders and solid and you dont have too have a hand in every thing they do i case they die, unlike Aerie if you turn your back for a sec during a fight shes dead.

Dundee Slaytern 04-05-2003 07:00 AM

The concept of Aerie is that one needs to realise that she is not half a Mage, she is not half a Cleric. She is a Cleric/Mage and her true power only comes about when one realises and understands that.

Whenever I have Aerie in my party, the party tanks tend to die more often, because they are in the frontline. Some Stoneskins, a Mirror Image, maybe a Blur, and Aerie is safe and secured.

There is something wrong with one's tactics if Aerie is being pounded by enemies, because that is what the party tanks are for, to distract the enemy while Aerie and the other spellcasters/archers duke it out on the enemy.

In any case... Protection from Magical Weapons or Invisibility is always a lifesaver for any spellcaster.

Assassin 04-05-2003 10:24 AM

For late game, Aerie is a winner. Time Stop + Spell Trigger (3xLower Resistance) + Harm = 1 dead enemy, unless it is immune to Time Stop. Killed most of the Bhaalspawn this way. Careful, though, don't use this against Improved Abazigal, as he gets stuck on Near Death. Then, there's the lovely 3 x Implosion in a Chain Contingency.

Middle game, Aerie is just fun to use. Bah... Fit in 3 x Cure Critical Wounds in a Spell Sequencer, and it's almost a Heal. Doom + Chromatic Orb. It's quite astonishing the different tactics you can pull off.

Early game? Aerie comes in at a higher level than most of your characters, making her Draw Upon Holy Might quite powerful.

SPOILER - Aerie THE Fighter
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

Here is how you can make Aerie the BEST fighter for a limited time (found this on a Gamebanshee forum):

Place in chain contingency (enemy sighted) : Aura of flaming death, champions strength, Regeneration
Place in contingency : Rightous magic
Place in Minor sequencer : Armour of faith, draw apon holy might
Place in sequencer : Blur, holy power, mirror image
Place in trigger : Tensers transformation, improved haste, spirit armour
Begin by casting improved alacrity, unless you are low lvl in which case its not important (just sucks waiting) cast black blade, followed by boon of lethander, sequencer then minor sequencer then sight your enemy, allow contingencies to fire before casting spell trigger...

Do all this and check her stats - the only problem are the number of attacks !

And if she wears Boots of Preservation ...

Enjoy !

Gildor 04-06-2003 12:15 AM

Jaheira is by far my favourite NPC in BG2, and in any CRPG.

As far as I'm concerned, she's the most beautiful woman to have ever walked the face of Faerun (Viccy and Ellesime included), and I never tire of playing through her romantic storyline.

She's also mega-powerful once you know all the tricks to using her:
1) protected by Iron Skins, she'll slice and dice everything in sight.
2) She'll unleash Creeping Doom and render the mages helpless.
3) She can knock a whole army of its feet with Earthquake.
4) With the right items and level progression, she'll gain immunity to the elements and to poison.

Her prowess as both a Druid and a Fighter, her beauty, her sensitity (underneath her gruff manner), her conviction, her grit, it all adds up to a package that I find just plain overpowering in the extreme.

Nerull 04-07-2003 06:11 PM

Aerie is good if you use her right, especially with the right equipment. Having her cleric spells sped up by the Robe of Vecna can be very useful.

In many of my games, Anomen ends up in the party. He's strong enough of a fighter to allow him to tank (especially if you give him the Gauntlets of Dexterity and ***** in a melee weapon). If he passes his test, he is a solid cleric, too. He may be annoying, but very useful in the party.

Jan is also useful, if annoying. Multiclassing rocks in ToB, and he is a strong thief and solid backup wizard. Definitely a winner in my book, if he would just shut up.

My vote for the worst: Cernd. If this were 3rd edition and he had access to feats from the Masters of the Wild book, give him Natural Spell and he would rock (cast spells while changed in form). Can you imagine him in werewolf form casting Nature's Beauty? Ironskins? But he doesn't have that feat, so he can either change form or cast spells (at least Jaheira's shapechanging sucks enough that you rarely use it, so you end up keeping her in regular form and just casting spells with her).

nightshift001 04-07-2003 10:59 PM

I think haer dalis (sorry i forgot how to spell his name properley)
After he gets 2 slots in long swords and 3 in dual wielding equip him with the blackrazor and celestial fury............cast a few protection spells on him and observe the destruction he brings.........of course without using shadowkeeper you have to take the evil path when you arrive in hell...but thats ok...............i also think he is quite funny and tends to talk alot to other party members............also his music is pretty cool.........
yep the tiefling is a gun
regards to all friends.

Nerull ,.. there a "shapeshifter-rebalancing" -MOD out there which changes a lot of things about this kit ( made by Weimer ).

1. You can cast in animal form
2. Several cleric spells added, such as Righteous Magic
3. The Greater Werewolf is now a POWERhouse, I'm talking incredible regeneration, immunity to normal weapons, Magic Resistance, Elemental Resistance ( all around 40% )

Probably some more, but these were the 3 I remember

I once played one, ironskinned and with Righteous Magic he did a solid ( IIRC)
-33- Damage per hit .. I think he has 3 attacks per round.
And if the going gets too tough ( rarely), you put your make-up on and blind them ;)

This Baby needs the improved enemies to have fun .. the normal enemies dont really stand a chance.

Didn't know about that one; I was thinking of doing a neutral party without Jaheira, but didn't want Cernd in. Now I just might.

Where do you download the mod?

IronDragon 04-08-2003 07:13 PM

I am currently running a game with NPC’s I don’t use or have never used. I’ve tried a couple times but somehow always manage to hack poor Aerie to pieces but I swore I would make it to the end with her at least once.

Currently:
Monk PC
Aerie
Cernd
Jan
Haer’Dalis
In my current try the big surprise is Cernd. The rebalance shape shifter mod really helps and he is working quite well as a tank. Actually at the moment Cernd is the closest thing that I have to a tank. His immunities and resistances are great and the fact he regenerates without help is a lifesaver. I am very impressed with him. Impressed enough to use him more often? Well the jury is still out on that one.

daan 04-09-2003 06:34 AM

Here is the link to the rebalanced shapeshifter.

Note that its part of the ease_of_use-mod, but dont worry .. any and each of the different components of this mod can be separatly installed.
So if you dont want anything else but the Rebalancing .. that's ok

there already is, it's called Keldorns Order and is one of the founding guilds of the RP forum (granted the OHF was there long before anyone else, but they're not so much into RP as multiplayer games) I am the current co-leader along with Sir Exxon

to get back on topic, my favorite NPC is Minsc, he's hilarious, and if you have Jan in the party.... well he's even better. he also has some great dialogues with the other characters, hehe he made Aerie his witch...

That sounds interesting, that Minsc made Aerie his witch I might have to try it, the downside being I have to take Aerie along.
