I thought it would interesting for people to share their favourite moments from the Baldur's Gate series, or any Infinity Engine game.
Mine would have to be getting slaughtered many times by the Slave Lords in the Guarded Compound, in the Temple district, in Chapter 2 many many times, and then returning in Chapter 6 to stab every one of them into the great beyond in a titanic battle, accompanyed by Strauss's Blue Dabube on the radio. Bliss, I can tell you, pure bliss.
Anyone else got one?

pritchke 11-22-2002 03:18 PM

Meeting my first Adamantite Golem in Whispering woods, letting it have everything I had and doing 1 damage. Then going how the hell do I kill this thing? Then with my entire party standing doumbfounded saying, "I am glad it is to large to get through that passage".

Actually there were alot of good moments all the why through.

wellard 11-23-2002 03:22 PM

Finaly coming up with a way to beat the mind flayers during my first go of bg2 a month of frustration just evaporated as i stoned them suckers to death!
plus any battle with both quantity and quality of oponents, zombie city in the eye of the beholder quest is perhaps the pick.

Bardan the Slayer 11-23-2002 07:51 PM

Bondari reloads...

Kaltia 11-24-2002 10:56 AM

Tiresius 11-27-2002 06:37 PM

What may i ask is "Bondari"?

Legolas 11-28-2002 06:51 AM

That's got to be my latest fight with Silke in BG1. I'm keeping a diary (which is a lot better when I play in the evenings than it is during the mornings) going through the series with Imoen and my ranger/cleric, with the use of neither the autopauses nor the pause button (I know, I've got nothing better to do ;) )

I'll post about it some day, but that was one of the better encounters so far. I won thanks to a chicken... no really

Another favourite moment comes from TOTSC. In Durlag's tower there's this supposedly really powerful demon knight (I was at a pretty high level before I went there the first time, so I never noticed). Anyway, you and your partymembers fight your way to his room, and just outside you have a conversation with the final surviving member of the party who went in before you. So she talks and tells you how immensely powerful the demon knight is and so on. After a while you get the option to reply with, here it comes, "his overconfidence will be his downfall". Hilarious.

Chatting with a Spectator beholder about the finer points of guarding chests in BG2.

Finding a poster of "Bobby the Barbarian" in the Adventurer's Mart in BG2.

The music played in Kuldahar in IWD.

I kinda liked the group of adventurers in Abazigal's enclave who give you the bronze pantaloons. Level 1 parties are always fun to watch. :D

Sever 11-30-2002 05:24 AM

The dialogue at that evil noble's place (forget his name, the one in Saradush) where his learned, aristocratic dribble serves not to belittle the vocabulary of yon adventurer but instead betrays the size of his own belittled trouser tackle! LMAO.

Many other times as well (Bondari, nuff said).

What? No? Of course that's not a dictionary in my pocket!

Sever 11-30-2002 09:39 PM

Oh and the funniest battles would have to be:
S
P
O
I
L
E
R
S

Chasing and taking taunts from big bad Lassal all the way through Bodhi's cavern, only to have him killed in one hit at the last stand!

The eloquent, polite, insane githyanki.

Fronting up to Irenicus with my fearsome band of lunatics.

The leader of a level 1 party (they're nails man) who you subcontract a quest to. They're in Abazigal's lair. Definately funny stuff.

This guy goes down as my all time favorite character! He is hilarious to talk to:

Him - "You have the holiest of holies!"
Me - "You mean the Silver Sword?"
Him - "Garrrrgh!!! You know its name! I spent three years in training before they would tell me that! "See the spoon!" my master said, "See the spoon!", but I just kept seeing frogs.".

</font>
He's got it sussed, man. It's truly a shame you have to kill him. Especially when he makes a point of not freak'n you out with his psionics 'by accident'. LMAO.

IN ToB,when you see the Beholder from Sahuagin City again in Sendai's enclave.

xanderwatts 12-17-2002 12:19 PM

I've thought of another one;
Finally hammering Sendai, after 32 (count'em), 32 tries at it!
Hahahahahahaha.

Sever 12-18-2002 04:56 AM

The graduation ceremony in the mages stronghold.

In spellhold, the battle with bodhi and what was his name, lonk the sane. lonk didnt seem like the sharpest guy did he? And bodhi, id pay a million bucks to see her face when the pc character turns into a slayer. she had to go "inform irenicus about it", yea right. doesent take a genius to figure out she fled head over heels at the sight. also Tiax is a rather comical guy in spellhold. Come to think of it, Spellhold is a rather funny place. These may not be the Funniest parts of the game, but the best ones were already taken.

Sever 12-21-2002 01:29 AM

"That really doesn't make much sense at all!"

"Then it is more than i could've hoped for from a room of the maddened dead!"

Sever 01-09-2003 11:12 AM

Don't know how i forgot this. I was playing through Big Red's dungeon recently and remembered the troll chef. Chatting with him is much more fun than killing him.

"Honestly, it's just too hard to find food that co-operates nowadays."

Vranda 01-09-2003 12:25 PM

My favorite part of the whole game was nalia's keep. It is so well crafted and harkened me back to the days of pen and paper D&D. Chests, rooms with secret doors, a basement dungeon, a miserable noblewoman ..... ah, the nostalgic feel of it all.

coop ryitsu 01-09-2003 05:34 PM

goto be doing 1048 points of damage to Lassel with daystar.

Malavon's Rage 01-09-2003 08:01 PM

lol, i too an quite aware of how great that is to kill Bohi with one simple spell:)

Khazraj 01-11-2003 04:43 AM

Using assassination skill to backstab repeatedly in the face Drizzt, the evil bastard drow. Lots of warm fuzzies from that one...

Ivellios Siannodel 01-13-2003 05:59 PM

Destroying Firkraag as a lowly solo Archer after a 45minute battle involving 23 Potions of Extra Healing, many many, many arrows and wearing the soles ut of my Boots of Speed. Aye, twas a long battle, but to see that huge hulking mass of unstable chemicals wrapped in a giant winged, scaly suit of near inpeneratable armour just makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Also beating Irenicus only with arrows in Hell.

Tancred 01-15-2003 07:24 AM

The mass-combat battles in ToB, without a doubt. Serious gaming challenge, battle of resources and management, excellent.

The first one - attacking Yaga Shura's army - has a very 'Seven Samurai' feel to it. You really start to understand just how HARD you and your party are and I got a nice warm feeling of a job well-done.

The second - the battle with Sendai's slaves in her fortress. Less for the battle, but more for the cutscene later; the one where news of an intruder is brought to Sendai, and she laughs it off. Until, that is, the stammering messenger tells her the intruder is Gorion's Ward - and she becomes very very serious about the situation. Perhaps a little hysterical...

It's nice to find someone who gives you a bit of credit, no?

Tanc
