EDIT] This thread seems to get linked to a lot, so I decided to correct some errors. Due to this edit, some of the replies below may not make sense.

Mods needed,

1) Item Upgrades
2) Ascension

Not the Barbarian, not the Kensai->Mage, not the Kensai->Thief, and nope, not even the Sorcerer. Nay... I am going to talk about the Wizard Slayer->Thief today.

Yes. The Wizard Slayer->Thief.

Permanent immunity to magic( unless the enemy casts Pierce Magic/Shield and/or Lower Resistance), and permanent 70% slashing and piercing damage resistance, 120% crushing damage resistance, and 75% missile damage resistance. With Hardiness, you gain temporary immunity to all physical damage.

Armour: Jansen AdventureWear
Gloves: Whatever tickles your fancy
Helmet: Ronarch's Horn

Ring1: Ring of Gaxx
Ring2: Ring of Elemental Mastery
Cloak: Cloak of Reflection

Comments? Note that this character cannot be a legitimate soloist. Insightful readers will come to realise why.

Cheesy yes, and still wondering whether it should be made usable; but it is there, so I might as well juggle the figures around and see what kind of Godlike character I can come up with.

The Machine of Lum The Mad.

Damn, now I feel stupid.

Alson 11-11-2002 11:58 AM

Nice!
The Wizard Slayer->Thief was always a powerhouse, but with these items...

I can never get myself to play late duals.
Waaaaaaay too boring!

You are talking about Purifier Vs. Ascension Bonus, i assume?

Hint: Stay as a level 20 Wizard Slayer until you earn enough Xp in your Thief class to exceed the Wizard Slayer side, then dual.

Close, but not quite. That is a abuse of roleplay, but it is still legitimate. You are on the right track though.

Alson 11-11-2002 12:43 PM

I give up.

Another hint?

Blatant Hint: Think on how you obtain the Purifier.

Alson 11-11-2002 02:47 PM

Ohhh...

Got it.
I was half right, to my defense.

True_Moose 11-11-2002 03:11 PM

Couldn't it be done with a Chaotic Evil Wizardslayer->thief using a certain helm?

Alson 11-11-2002 03:18 PM

It could have been done if the Helm was actually somewhere in BG2. ;)

True_Moose 11-11-2002 03:20 PM

But of course you could use a 4th mod and import it from BG1. ;)

SixOfSpades 11-12-2002 06:05 PM

What's wrong with doing WK while still in SoA? Be Lawful Good until you fail a test.

True_Moose 11-12-2002 11:46 PM

Hmm...that would mean beating Irenicus' first form as well as chaps 1-7 as a lvl 20 Wizard Slayer...while manageable, yuck.

xanderwatts 11-15-2002 03:43 PM

Where can I find the lich in the docks mod?

1) The Ritual (requires ToB)
2) Gebhard Blucher's Lich in the Docks

1. What do you mean by "The Ritual (requires ToB)"??? (something in ToB, sorry haven't played it for a while)!
2. Gebhard Blucher's Lich in the Docks - i understood it's in tactics mod(where can i download)???
3. Where can i find Yellow Dragon Armour???

andrewas 03-01-2003 09:16 AM

The ritual is part of tactics, which you can find here:

http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~weimer/bgate/index.html

Some components of tactics require ToB, ritual is one of these. So you cannot install it without ToB.

Lich in the docks is another component of the same mod.

The Yellow Dragon Scale Mail is part of the loot for completing the ritual.

Rataxes 03-01-2003 10:21 AM

Now wait a minute, Yellow Dragon Scales doesn't give resistance to slashing attacks. Though the amount of enemies with slashing weapons might not be staggering, it's still significant, several very powerful enemies use slashing weapons.

Furthermore, my character is neutral good and he received the 25% Phys Res ability in the final test, is this not supposed to happen?

Xen 03-01-2003 10:56 AM

Hey !

I'm still wondering about late dual trick ?

Is it really possible to wait at level 20 and not level up until you gain enough XP to exceed your primary class and then dual ?

I tried it with Sk and it didn't work. I have 0 XP when I dual.

That was Dundee's hint - how can I make it work ?

Cheers ,Xen

tower 03-01-2003 01:04 PM

What about the dual: i don't understand exactly- create Wiz Slayer, wait until he is level 20 and then dual??
Does Tactics work with Tdd+Ascension+the 2 reigns???(RoV, FR)

daan 03-01-2003 01:39 PM

What Dundee mean is ( took me awhile too, quite brilliant,.. but hey, mention Dundee and tell me something new ;) ):

You get to level 20 as a wizard slayer. You continue being a wizard slayer, it's just that you dont level up. Even if you get enough XP to get to level 21, you do *not* level-up.

You keep doing this untill you gather so much XP .. that you'd be a level 21 thief ( If you were one ) ..

Now you dual to a thief...

Now you lvl up .. al that XP you have stored, but never "put in any levels" so to speak is now redirected to your thief. You're basically giving the thief all the XP your wizard slayer earned after level 20.

And because it's more than enough to go beyond level 20, you're in bussines immediatly

smartsmartsmart :D

EDIT: Just post again if you still dont understand, I'll try to explain better. The explanation above might be a little Chaotic, sorry

Alson 03-01-2003 02:17 PM

Daan, i'm quite sure that this way doesn't actually work. I tried it once or twice, and never got it to work. My impression is that Dundee is refering to the Quest-XP-Garnering tactic. ;) I won't go into specifics -- it should be obvious enough now.

andrewas 03-01-2003 02:20 PM

Dont hit the level up button until your XP is sufficient to take you to a lvl20 theif in one go. Then hit the dual class button, and jump to wiz slayer 20/ theif 21 in one go. That seems to be the theory at least.

Is this tried-and tested, or just a thoeretical excercise?

Alson 03-01-2003 02:29 PM

Didn't work for me...

daan 03-01-2003 02:29 PM

:D Nope, sorry Alson ... not quite catching on yet

Are you referring to the tactic where you talk to an NPC that gives quest-experience multiple times ? ( f.e. Tanner, big oak spirit Suldanesselar )
or not ?

If so .. I caught on to you, but I'm not quite catching Dundee's way of phrasing it. ( that way you wont stay as a 20th lvl wizard-slayer untill you catch up )

Enlighten me and stop making me look stupid with things like "it should be obvious enough now" ;)

Alson 03-01-2003 02:37 PM

LOL! Sorry 'bout that... :D But i'm a sucker for riddles.

I wasn't actually thinking about this -- and i don't consider it a legitimate tactic, too. It's exploiting a race condition (= computer science term). I was, however, thinking of plain, not bugged NPC which gives you Quest XP. ;) Until you dual, do all quests, but do not talk to the people who gave you them. Now, dual to a Thief. Go on a wild trip to the Umar Hills, Trademeet, Windspear, [ insert big quest with mucho quest XP here ], and garner your rightfully owned XP! :D

daan 03-01-2003 02:41 PM

LoL, you sneeky bastard .. but be that as it may,.. it doesnt quite correspond with the way Dundee phrased it, does it ?
I mean .. doing it your way .. would mean you do not stay as a wizard slayer, but dual to a thief and start collecting quest-XP.
So what's Dundee up to ?

Alson 03-01-2003 02:46 PM

Beats me... Dundee?

Dundee Slaytern 03-03-2003 03:35 AM

My mistake. I forgot that when you dual, you always start from zero in your second class. Soooo... you will need to resort to the quest XP exploit if you want to level up faster.

In addition, after you dual, you can then stay at level one in your second class until you gain enough XP for your second class to exceed your first class. You will still 'waste' two weapon proficiencies from dualling to a Thief at the start, but the rest are given to you to do as you please.
