Is there any bonuses in shadows of amn with the tob expansion? I mean bonus areas, hidden places, items or even maybe merchants. i was just wondering so thenks for any help provided.

There's a new area acsessible in SOA called watchers keep. The rest of the expansion is played after you complete SOA as extra chapters added on at the end. It includes all new areas so you can't travel back to the SOA areas once you've commpleted it.

You mean what changes in SoA when ToB is installed? These are the modifications which kick in while you are still in SoA areas:</font>
 • Added Watchers Keep - accessible from either SoA or ToB map;</font>
 • Experience cap is raised from 2,900,000 to 8,000,000; that means you can advance to level as high as 40 (depends of the class) and can gain HLAs;</font>
 • Some classes gain aditional abilities (cleric gains holy symbol from his god; druid gains some resistances;...);</font>
 • Evil clerics can now turn paladins (Viconia + Radiant Heart :D );</font>
 • New kit - Wild mage (weird);</font>
 • Ability to erase spells from mage's apellbook is added (useful for learning tons of scrolls ;) );</font>
 • Non-pausing map screen;</font>
 • Mage/Clerics can switch between arcane or divine spells by clicking on the new button while selecting a spell ;</font>
 • Aganazzar's Scorcher works more similar to its PnP incarnation;</font>
 • Mirror image images appear in a tight group instead of a long line.</font>
 • I forgot a very important thing - TAB key allows you to show all containers and doors</font>
There are some more minor changes.
Add: last line of the list

The only new area added to SoA is Watcher's Keep (which can also be accessed from ToB).
ToB adds new items, but most of them (except those found in WK) are obtained only in ToB itself.

Slight technicality, Vedran, the XP cap for SoA is 2,950,000. It matters for some classes I think (an extra lvl).

Vedran 10-25-2002 08:53 AM

Manual states 9,500,000.

Eh? Do we have the same SoA manual? It is stated quite clearly on Page 81 that the Xp Cap is 2,950,000.

Vedran 10-25-2002 01:11 PM

I was talking about ToB manual - pg. 10, Experience and gaining levels.
But it seems we don't have the same SoA manual (on page 81 are spells "Stone to Flesh" to "Wyvern Call" ;) )
And im my .pdf manual, Exp. cap reference is on page 82.
???

Dundee Slaytern 10-25-2002 01:24 PM

The .pdf file considers the cover art to be the first page. I was referring to the actual page number as printed on the page.

There is a typo on page 9 of the ToB manual. It should not read 2,900,000, but 2,950,000.

I second that, with both of my manuals out 'cos it's Friday and I am a social retard with nothing better to do than back people up and sit there at my computer with my manual.

Alright, enough self-pity, I'm buggering off to actually PLAY the damn game ;)

*BG regulars hear load bangs and crashes coming from kaltia's virtual room*
Dang, I knew a solo sorc straight into WK was a bad idea. ;)

Dundee Slaytern 10-25-2002 01:39 PM

Both will work I guess. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/devil/satounge.gif

Technically, a solo Sorcerer can take on level 1-2 when he/she is level 12+.

I only really recommend level 3-6 when he/she is level 18+.

Kaltia 10-25-2002 01:43 PM

Hmm, how about a lvl 8 straight outta Chatau irenicus?
oooh, fun! ^_^ i just got clobbered by a spider. *gives her moniter the evils*
I thought I had more sense than this. people, if you value your lives or at least your intestines, you will not speak up at that point :D

Only level 8? Mine was level 9 out of JI's Dungeon, and level 11 by the time I was done with Waukeen's Promenade.

daan 10-25-2002 02:26 PM

You want a challenge ?
Make a solo-archer do Nalia's keep at lvl 8, I am offcourse talking about the improved Nalia's keep with the improved Trolls hanging around ....
Hmm, might be even more fun with a solo mage/sorcerer at lvl 8 though

Slighty off-topic, but while we're (kinda) discussing manual errors, how come it (according to the manual) takes 24 turns to cast Animal Summoning 1?

Vedran 10-26-2002 09:13 AM

Another mistake. Casting time is 7. (ASII is 8 and ASIII is 9)

Alson 10-26-2002 09:32 AM

If you're nitpicking the Manual, ya might want to take a look at the Spell Reference, and look for the red text.

The Manual never looked so stupid... ;)

Wumpspawner 10-26-2002 01:10 PM

Casting time is easy to figure. With certain rare exceptions, it's one segment per spell level. This has been consistant since the publication of the Book of Eldritch Wizardry in the early 80s, the first compilation of spells for the Dungeons and Dragons game. And worth a pretty penny, if you have a copy.

Seemingly, there are many exceptions in BG2. This can not be taken as a rule.
