- - [SPOILERS] Toughest fight in BG? (http://www.ironworksforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1943)

Rikter 03-07-2002 05:13 PM

I'm just getting started on TotSC, having completed chapter 6 -
and asked a friend how much trouble he had with the final battle
in BG1.

He said that Sarevok and co. didn't pose too much of a problem, and that IHHO the toughest fight in the game was the mage gang in the Iron Throne HQ.

I had trouble with that one, but I think I had more grief with the basilisks out east, 'cause I didn't have gaze reflection or potions of mirrored eyes. Many, many reloads.

What fight in BG1, including TotSC, would you say is the hardest to beat?

Rikter

Downunda 03-07-2002 05:24 PM

I'd have to say either baldurans ship with the wolfweres, the first fight with the zealots at Ulgoths Beard after completing Durlags or Aec'Letec.

Rikter 03-07-2002 06:16 PM

So all the toughest fights are still ahead of me?
That's wonderful. :/

Albromor 03-07-2002 11:04 PM

I totally agree with Downunda in his choice of battles as being the toughest in the game. When it comes to battles TotSC seems to rule. However, I think the battle in Iron Throne was the best battle in the regular BG story line. It really forced me to think out my tactics. I must have reloaded 5 times before I got something to work out.

Rikter 03-08-2002 11:15 AM

Ditto...I tried it a half-dozen times with Dynagirl's spells
pretty much exhausted, then I snapped and spent eight hours
at the Blade and Star before coming back. Roared in with haste,
prayer, protection from evil 10' and lots of oil of fiery burning.

It was brutal. I think among the six of us we took maybe 30 points
of damage before annihilating them all. It's mighty hard to concentrate when Coran's pounding ice arrows into your AC5 heiney.

A think the demon.knight is a tough guy as well. and that house in baldurs gate, with a guy tha gives you the task to fecth a helm of balduran, is hard as shit!
But Sarevok is also very hard, with the traps on the floor and all

NiceWorg 03-08-2002 10:31 PM

I dont own TOTSC.. I should say it was some random battle against pack of wolves with first or second level characters. But if you leave those kind of things out..

First, the fight at IT´s 4th level was quite easy in my books. Most difficult could have been meeting Davaeorn. My missile gang was helpless, and he had some good defensive spells to put in use. Another challenging battles that comes to mind... Mulahey (and his skeletons), coronation, house full of "you know what" in BG, headhunters from Zhentarim in the end, and two skeleton warriors in thieves maze.

Honestly, Sarevok could have been more difficult, like most of headhunter gangs.

david_m11 03-09-2002 03:18 AM

IMHO The 4 warders in Durlags were one of the toughest to beat - lots of reloads for that one.

Lavindathar 03-09-2002 12:22 PM

I used to think the warders was the hardest, but I'll go with the Wolfwere fight on Balduran's ship.

david_m11 03-09-2002 02:16 PM

I suppose the biggest influence to saying which battle was the toughest is at what level your party were at when you actually had the fight.

Beaumanoir 03-09-2002 03:09 PM

What Makes The Wolfwere's Hard, Is That You Have To Do It, No Matter What Level You Are. Whereas, The Warders, You Can Go Out, Train Up, And Then Return.

Ar-Cunin 03-21-2002 11:18 AM

I once had an ambush sprung on me and Imoen by
8-10 bandits after leaving the first area east of Candlekeep - at lvl 1 those guys made pincushions out of the both of us.

Of the regular battles I would say the house in Baldurs Gate (see above) or the Wolfweres.

Katherine 03-21-2002 03:03 PM

I think the secret Squirrel Goddess fight is the toughest. She throws exploding acorns that she keeps in her cheeks at you.

You know, someone will actually take you seriously.............. :D

Lavindathar 03-21-2002 04:07 PM

It would be really funny if someone did!!!!

Ok, she doesn't throw acorns, but she can't be killed!!!

lol Ar-Cunin this has happened to me as well, especially the last few times i have played the game, because i run up to the area of Brun's farm to quickly get Ajantis so can level up evenly with me and Imoen. curse you bandits!

Artemis Entreri 03-27-2002 10:20 PM

i found the mage gang tough even with every one at 6th level. i reloaded 7 times. i finaly used monster summoning to do teh dirty work. bassilisks are easy if u cast protection from evil. but i am trying to get to the demon. knight :knight: what does he do. daveorn is a wus whit +2 arows. die damn wizard :2gunfire:

Vohl 03-29-2002 02:44 PM

I thought that 'summoned mage' and his lackeys at the Nashkel Cemetary was the hardest battle I took part in. Those warders in Durlag's take a good second place.

The nashkel cemetary can be made very easy with fire resistance spells.

Warders is quite hard!

Piestrider 03-30-2002 01:28 PM

I would definately say that the hardest battle in the entire game would be the demon after you finish Durlag's Tower and head back to Ulgoth's Beard. I never did finish that one... reloaded about 20 times and finally gave up and went on.

It's a hard fight that can be made easy...you shouldn't have give up though,,,you was so close to the end of TotSC.

Vohl 03-30-2002 02:53 PM

Aye, Lavi, you are right about that 'mage' at the Nashkel Cemetary, took me awhile though, now that I think about it, those warders were the most frustrating. Point well taken...

Gammit 04-02-2002 04:26 PM

Wow, so many long, sleepless nights of reloads to choose from... but in the end, I'd have to go with the 4 warders in DT. I think I stopped counting at reload number 15 before I finally got close to beating them... bastards. An honorable mention goes out to the Wolfwere fights and to the previously-mentioned Demon.

Lavindathar 04-03-2002 01:12 PM

I used to think the warders, as the first time I ever fought them they were impossible.

Later times, I have just breezed through it.

Baldurans Ship final fight, I've never breezed...

RathRyan 04-06-2002 12:42 PM

I think that the basilisk map is fairly hard. On my first time I didn't know there was that many and I only had 1 potion of mirrored eyes ;) It took me many times to get past and I have to reload lots. The next time I went in there I wasn't the ones being screwed. :D

CTrain 04-09-2002 04:16 PM

How did ya'll beat those skeletons in the thief maze, they just keep on killing and killing me. Plus with all those traps on the floor.......sorry about the ya'll, I'm from Texas.

The Ozzman 04-10-2002 07:02 PM

when asking for help it always good to list your party, but if youre talking about the 1st time you run into them then i would give imoen the boots of avoidence, and the girdle of piercing and have her disarm the 1st trap and run her to the back of your party. Then when the skeleton comes up, crush him with your tanks. Use Haste and potions of giant strength if necessary, you should have plenty in your inventory by now.

Alexander 04-17-2002 09:55 PM

My hardest fights were the area after the Catacombs (right before you get to the surface of Candlekeep), and Duchal Palace (of course, my objective was to keep both Belt and Liia Jannath alive, as opposed to just one).

David15 04-18-2002 09:57 AM

Heheh- Go past those Skeleton warriors by giving my Elven Ranger th shield of Falling Stars (+5 vs. missiles) and Boots of Avoidance (+5 vs missiles) and walked him forward. The skeletons fired at him while my 4 guys hung back and Imoen edged forwards behind him. She disarmed the traps, and my main char (Elrond) moved forward. my party was carrying magic arrows to the eyeballs and Elrond drew fire while they wasted the skeletons.

IMHO the werewolf fight was easy, though my main guy could take down the last level of them alone - with a Potion of heroism. my party was about L7 on average. Iron Throne top level was really tough- but I got through after many many tries.
Demonknight was done with Imoen stealthing and talking to him, then unveiling the M of Opposition. The Demonknight killed his double thencame for my guys who polished him off in short order - so he was weakened from his double. Couldn't polish off the rest of the mirror fiends though. Haven't killed Sarevok or Aec'Letec yet, despite having got Soultaker.

Sorcerer Alex 04-18-2002 02:06 PM

I'd say the fight with the Merry Fools - or possibly Balduran's Ship - with all the wolfweres. Big fights are always worth it though - gold, useful trinkets and experience points aplenty ;)

Lemernis 04-18-2002 02:42 PM

Katherine and I repeatedly got our asses handed to us on platter by those two assassins in the Undercellar--primarily because we are roleplaying our characters and as such don't want any innocents killed. We won, finally, but we suspect it was probably by virtue of a bug: after Katherine's Invoker cast Dispell Magic the assassin mage Kristin simply vanished and Slythe appeared to be paralyzed. My fighter-thief (fighter 5/thief 8, dual class) was really getting ripped to shreds by Slythe.

Alexander 04-18-2002 05:06 PM

Yeah, it's hard avoiding innocent casualties in certain battles, but it just feels so good when you know that the good guys one and no innocents were killed.

To follow up, the fight at the bar in the city of Baldur's Gate (can't remember the name - Cloak and something) where the bully and his thugs start attacking you and your party (and another fellow's party) is difficult to win without innocents getting killed.

Lanthir 04-19-2002 12:08 AM

I vote for the werewolves.

The method I found easiest for the Demon was to invis the party then run them into the NE corner the slowly using range weapons move around picking off all the NPC leaving the pristest last Then Force attack her the diloque comes up she summons the demon and dies at the same time Then you just have him so pasue then set to unload on him. I found that he can be paralyzed aalso with out the others for him to pop into if you kill him it goes pretty fast.
