I've just beaten the Chromatic Demon...
God knows it was a tough fight for my level ~12 party... But apperentaly, not tough enough. When the demon was caged, he switched forms. I've been told, and i just saw it in Dan Simpson FAQ, the he is supposed to switch forms in combat, too. Well, he didn't. During all the fight, he was in the 'red' form. It was hard, and i got all the XP and the loot from him, according to the FAQ, but still... Maybe it was because i'm low level? Or did i killed him too fast? it's not likely, the battle took about ten minutes... Does anyone knows why it happend? |
That's strange, he's supposed to switch like every minute...It might be because of your low level...Might also be a bug...
|
I don't think it's a bug...
my game is fully patched... |
If he switched often it would make the battle much harder because you would have to switch techniques...so it's probably that your characters are low-level...
QUESTION: What levels are your characters?? |
He already wrote that they're twelve.
Low indeed. That's what sucks in the game, if you ask me: You can finish that plot with a low level party pretty easily when considering that this is your first try in the game and you're obviously excited about it. But then you get to TOB, and bam! you're screwed. The thing is, that many sidequests aren't needed for the plot, even important side quests like Temple Ruins, Tradesmeet, or Windspear Hills, not to mention half the Underdark and Akathala (sp?). Most people in their first shot at the game, want to finish it. Sure they want to explore, especially if they played BG1, but the plot is so interesting you want to move forward. Thus, all the great quests get abandoned. If those quests were mandetory for the plot, than (a) you would make the plot wider, without needing to add more quests, (b) you could make the fights at the end more difficult, because (c) everyone will get to the ending of the game at high levels with all the equipment and characters they chose. |
I've played SoA many times...
Its my first time threw ToB. I just heard that the first two levels are easy, so i decided to do them as one of my first quests. So, you guys say that it's probably because of the low level? Ok... That's what i thought. Nevermind, i'll do the next level when i'm at ToB anyway, so i wont have that problem anymore . |

I have been through a couple of times at various levels and it "seems" to me that the chromatic demon changes faster the higher level you are.........that may just be my paranoid impression, but it was a hell of a time keeping up to the changes with 20th level characters......luckily he didn't live that long (maybe a minute and he changed right through the whole cycle+++)

Lower his magic resistance, then use Harm on him. Proceed to spit on him to death.
|
I fought it twice, just to experiment. I think he changes at random, and nothing to do with experience.
One time he was nothing but poison. The second time he went from Air to Cold mid-battle. Stick with the tactics you learn with the elements at that level and you should kill the demon pretty quick. |
yea, I think the changes are random. I had a lvl 20-something party and he stayed air for the entire fight. My other party was higher in level, and he stayed fire, only switching to poison right before he died.
