Lucifer Lord of demons 06-22-2002 11:31 PM

This is my party i'm using so the game will be chalenging and keep a good roleplaying value (I.E no powergaming)

Me---half-orc Kensai
Aerie
Haer Dalis
Solaufein
Cernd
Imoen(can't have the BG series without her)

This party I chose because it stops me from just casting a quadruple timestop and annihalating everyone (no sorcerer) and I only have 1 true tank and he'll have only an OK A.C so I can't pile 4 tanks on one person killing them with 4 greater whirlinds/critical strikes. It also has a good roleplay value since:
S
P
O
I
L
E
R
a romance develops between Aeris and Haer Dalis, A romance devellops between me and sola and i've got my sister with me and sola is the underground renegade - the stuff stories are made of!!!

You think playing with a party is getting too commonplace. Try soloing.

SecretMaster 07-17-2002 01:13 AM

Uh, how do you get Solafuein to join you???? I never heard of this.

I'm not suicidal...but thanks, Dundee, i'll make it my next proitrity. What's the rival school of a transmuter again?

Abjuration. you know, the school with all the protective and protection removing spells .

SixOfSpades 07-18-2002 06:51 PM

Transmuters aren't just blocked from all the protections in the Abjuration school, they also can't cast Necromancy spells. Double ouch. As far as I can tell, the ONLY good defensive spell they can cast is Stoneskin.

And if you don't mind cheating, have yourself a Half-Orc Transmuter. Or Half-Orc Bard. Elven Barbarian? Hmmm.....or maybe you could just solo a flying butler guy. :D

Hmmmm? Transmuters are only disallowed from Abjuration spells. Illusionists are the ones whose opposition school is Necromancy.

Ronin_bcd 07-21-2002 11:02 AM

I hate to rain on everyone's parade, but at least a transmuter can cast spells and USE SCROLLS from other schools........try soloing only a fighter (no kit)....lots of hit points sure, but immediate death unless you are SHARP

Dundee Slaytern 07-21-2002 11:17 AM

Except Transmuters cannot use Abjuration scrolls... ...

A boardie named Kaltia has apparently soloed a Plain Fighter through SoA and ToB already. I have yet to hear of a successful solo trip made by a Transmuter.

Ronin_bcd 07-21-2002 11:21 AM

hmmmmm....that sounds like a challenge....anyone besides me up for it...we can keep the gang up to date on our progress on a daily basis....the only question I have is do I start from SoA and run the gambit or just begin in ToB and see if I can make it through???

Dundee Slaytern 07-21-2002 11:26 AM

I would highly recommend going through SoA first, to make the transition to ToB easier. Remember, you can gain abilities in SoA.

Ronin_bcd 07-21-2002 11:32 AM

True....an excellent point that I realized as I was hitting "post reply".....I will take up the challenge and give it a try...getting tired of killing things so easily anyway....thx Dundee

Dundee Slaytern 07-21-2002 11:38 AM

No problem, and good luck. I suspect you are going to need it... a lot. ;)

Ronin_bcd 07-21-2002 11:50 AM

My wife and I have a new baby girl and so posting everyday might be rough, but I'll keep people informed as too my progress.....who knows, might actually generate some biting new commentary on what a dumb idea this is.

Dundee Slaytern 07-21-2002 11:56 AM

I will be very impressed if anybody can complete SoA-ToB with a solo Transmuter. Even without the Improved Boss mods and/or Ascension/Sola mod installed.

Lucifer Lord of demons 07-22-2002 02:40 AM

ummm...Dundee...this...may...be...a...BIT...of a...Surprise...BUT...
.
.
.
.
.
.
I soloed until the end of shadows of amn with a transmuter(cost me millions in spells and wands but was worth it!!!)Of course I could NOT do it it insane I only did it in normal but HEY! thats not that bad is it!?

Dundee Slaytern 07-22-2002 06:58 AM

;) But can he go all the way? ;)

Ronin_bcd 07-22-2002 03:44 PM

Well Lucifer gives me hope (how often does anyone say that), and I decided to go all the way and start from the original BG, with no mods and on normal level....progress so far...finished half of friendly arm quests...will update once a week or so as to avoid totally boring everyone to tears (completely).

Unless Lucifer finishes TOB with his transmuter, in which case there won't be much to prove and the exercise would be fruitless.

Lucifer Lord of demons 07-23-2002 05:21 AM

well now I just killed Ilaserra (wow!!!)and I have beaten gromnir. At the level I'm at now defenses are useless because i can cast contingencies and timestop (anyone want a 3xhorrid wilting???)and I can get up to 5 firebreaths out in 5 secs so I don't think I'll have too much trouble from now on(but the end boss will be just a bit hard...)

Piestrider 07-24-2002 12:41 AM

I like the transmuter idea... very original. But i still think it would be harder to solo as a jester. Just a thought. Has anyone ever done it? personally I like to powergame. You know, 2 carsomyrs and 3 mages casting 4 9th level spells each. More fun that way.

Dundee Slaytern 07-24-2002 01:40 AM

The Jester was the first Bard to successfully solo SoA-ToB completely, if my memory serves me right. Some guy did it from the BlackIsle Boards. His primary tactic was to go invisible and sing... causing his enemies to beat the brains out of each other.

HAHA, i did not know that. Thats very amazing that someone was able to do it.

Daniel 07-29-2002 08:42 PM

If you want a challenge why not play with a party of 6 wild mages lol, think of all the fun you will have, 6 times the wild surges

Lucifer Lord of demons 07-30-2002 04:07 AM

I did it.
I FINALLY did It.
I killed Mellissan WITH the ascension with my solo Transmuter!!!
It took me 1----number extends endlessly----2 reloads but I did it.
Praise the makers od AD&D for the wish spell!

Dundee Slaytern 07-30-2002 10:45 AM

Congrats, http://www.plauder-smilies.de/happy/xyxthumbs.gif got any screenshots?

Alson 07-30-2002 05:24 PM

@Lucifer - Congrats! That quite an achievment...

@Dundee - About a month ago, you and i argued in a thread about whether or not it's possible to complete the game (SoA and ToB), SOLO, with any character. I said it's possible, and you said it's probably not. Finnaly, we agreed that the only class who probably can't do it is a Transmauter. Well... Point taken? :D

unfortunately no :(

I'm unable to do it because I don't have the program(s)needed.

Hmmmm? Just punch the Print Screen button on your keyboard. A screenshot will be saved in the following directory.

C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\ScrnShot

Use the default Paint program that is found in any Windows OS and save it as a .jpg file. If you do not have any website, you can just WinZip it and e-mail it to me.

Dundee Slaytern 07-31-2002 02:42 AM

Maybe we should be more strict and set Core Difficulty as the base minimum requirement that you have really soloed the game, since opponents deal less damage under Easy and Normal Diffculty.
