One- The best Throwing Axe in the game (Kl'glorath) and arguably the best armor in the game (the one that makes you immune to Backstab and grants +5% Magic Resistance) can be bought from Carras the Smuggler in Amkethran. So says GameBanshee, anyway. But when I go there and do right by the smugglers, those items are nowhere to be found. Is this a game-version issue? Do I need to download a patch to get them? It kinda sucked with my Fighter/Mage who sided with the Shadow Thieves: I was Neutral and therefore couldn't use Azuredge, so my best ranged weapon was Hangard's Axe+2. Not that much good, when I should be using a +4 weapon.

Two- I've searched high and low, near and far, and have yet to find a chart showing how much EXP the different classes need to Level Up in ToB. I found a good chart showing all the SoA values, and I extrapolated off of that to get a good idea of ToB, but it's not correct, and I've got no clue what happens with Druids. Their EXP table seems to loop over itself like a Mobius strip. Can anybody help me out, please?

Dundee Slaytern 06-14-2002 12:31 AM

1) It is not armour, it is magical boots that grant you the backstab immunity. They are called the Gargoyle Boots.

<center>http://www.gamebanshee.com/baldursga...goyleboots.jpg</center>

Quoted from GameBanshee,
Quote:

9 - Inside this cave, you'll run into Saemon's group of smugglers. Balthazar's men will be starting trouble with them when you first enter, in which case you can intervene if you'd like. If you do, Carras will sell you his wares, which include some pretty nice magic items. Later, once you've killed Sendai and Abazigal, you can return to this cave to talk with Saemon and learn a way into Balthazar's stronghold.
Note that Carras will only sell the items for a short period( 8 hours?), after that, they disappear to avoid the wrath of the Monks.

2) Read the manual... ...

Hayashi 06-14-2002 04:41 AM

6,
The ToB manual has a full table at the back.

Ar-Cunin 06-14-2002 06:14 AM

Their is also an armor that provides immunity to backstab - I just can't remember what it is called

You have to seach the smugglers inventory carefully - I missed all the good items the first two times I played through ToB.

SixOfSpades 06-14-2002 05:31 PM

One- In my game, Carras doesn't stock the Boots either. No Kl'glorath, no Enkidu's Full Plate, no Gargoyle Boots. I didn't even know the Boots were supposed to be in the game, legally.

Two- I must admit that I don't have a ToB manual. My friend was visiting Malaysia, where his grandmother used to live, and bought BG2 and ToB while there. He mailed me the CDs to make sure the game worked and he didn't get ripped off by buying some beta version or something. (And, except for the Carras thing, everything seems to be in order.) Yep, I'm sure it's a pirated copy, but at least it wasn't ME who bought it. I paid full price for the legit retail versions of BG1/ToSC, anyway.
But that leaves me without a ToB manual, and therefore without a ToB EXP chart that I can transfer to my online Guide. Does anyone know where I can find a chart on the Web? Or maybe somebody could just copy one class's EXP progression (like the Druid) and post it here? Please? *Big, sad Bambi eyes*

SixOfSpades 06-16-2002 05:24 PM

Oh, come on--Won't ANYBODY copy an EXP column out of the manual for me? I'm going to be stuck with publishing a chart that has an incomplete Druid column, and Cleric/Monk and Thief/Bard columns that I know are wrong.

Anyone?

I doubt anybody will copy details for someone with a pirated copy - but you can extract them with ieee from www.teambg.com. look through the 2da files and youll find the games own tables.

Well, given the frequency with which I've seen things like "Precisely How to beat Kangaxx," "Everything You Always Wanted to Know about the Staff of the Magi (but were afraid of the Twisted Rune)," and "The Exact Coordinates of the Ring of Wizardry," I was hoping for a little more than zilch, when all I need is the ToB half of the EXP charts for three measly classes. And it's not like I'm not a regular contributor, myself, either--anyone who's read the Naughty Boy threads knows this. And I don't want the data for ME--it's going to be put into a Guide, for YOU. (Well, in general.)

Hi Six,
I sent the scanned pages to your email address. Hope this helps.

daan 06-19-2002 05:16 AM

try:
http://www.gamebanshee.com/baldursgateii/

I think i saw a few tables there too ...
f.e. the shapeshifting table ( that one isnt in the ToB-manual, but pretty handy )

Morgeruat 06-19-2002 09:30 AM

I'll copy them down tonight when I get off work if I remember, If I can't find them in the manual I'll copy them from some of the Forgotten Realms books that go up to 40th lvl (for exp tables and spell caster rates), do you need the caster tables as well? how many spells of each level etc.

Dundee Slaytern 06-19-2002 10:45 AM

Hmmmm... ...

Copying from a non-game related source will be futile, as BG2 uses a special Xp table for their Druids. Oh well... ...

From the manual... ...

Thieves/Bards
<table border="1"><tr align="center"><td width="50">Level</td><td width="125">Experience</td></tr><tr align="center"><td width="50">1</td><td width="125">0</td></tr><tr align="center"><td width="50">2</td><td width="125">1250</td></tr><tr align="center"><td width="50">3</td><td width="125">2500</td></tr><tr align="center"><td width="50">4</td><td width="125">5000</td></tr><tr align="center"><td width="50">5</td><td width="125">10000</td></tr><tr align="center"><td width="50">6</td><td width="125">20000</td></tr><tr align="center"><td width="50">7</td><td width="125">40000</td></tr><tr align="center"><td width="50">8</td><td width="125">70000</td></tr><tr align="center"><td width="50">9</td><td width="125">110000</td></tr><tr align="center"><td width="50">10</td><td width="125">160000</td></tr><tr align="center"><td width="50">11</td><td width="125">220000</td></tr><tr align="center"><td width="50">11+n</td><td width="125">220000+(n*220000)</td></tr></table>

SixOfSpades 06-19-2002 08:44 PM

Sweetness.

Dundee, I copied your tables down, thanks. The only thing I'm worried about is that the behavior of the Rogue & Cleric tables mean that with 8 million EXP, they'll be over Level 40. I think. That's what I've got them down at home doing, and I think they're following the same behavior that you listed.

Which means.....I turn to Grindar Silvermane to double-check the data! Many thanks, and my Inbox thanks you as well. It feels so loved.

Morgeurat, I've got all the Spell Progession tables for all the spellcasting classes in SoA, and that should be enough, but if you wanted to list the data relevant to ToB, that would be a really cool bonus.

The Guide is so close to being done: I just need to make the EXP page and the Thieving Skills page, and I'll upload the sucker. Probably tomorrow. Yeeha! One last question: Is there any real difference between Planetars/Dark Planetars and Devas/Fallen Devas?

Thanks again!

Dundee Slaytern 06-20-2002 12:16 AM

Clerics, Monks, Thieves and Bards will not exceed level 40. I forgot to list the Xp at the end-side.

Clerics/Monks

39: 6975000
40: 8000000

Thieves/Bards

39: 6380000
40: 8000000

As for the stats for Devas and Planetars. I only know a few things for sure.

Planetars use a +3 Vorpal Sword, just like the Githyanki's Silver Sword +3. Devas use a modified version of the Mace of Disruption, what is the level of enchantment, I am not sure.

Planetars have a vastly superior spell selection, with spells from all three types of magic. Clerical, Druidic and Mage. Devas only have spells from the Clerical and Druidic side if I recall correctly. As for the exact spell list, I am not sure.

Planetars are immuned to normal and +1 enchanted weapons. They might be immuned to +2 enchanted weapons, but this might not be true. Same goes for the Deva.

SixOfSpades 06-20-2002 07:37 PM

Signed, Sealed, and Delivered.

Volothamp's Comeuppance is now fully uploaded.

You're right, Dundee, it was the leap from Level 39 to 40 that threw me off. Without it, Clerics/Monks would reach Level 43, and Rogues would hit Level 46.

Upcoming Changes:
- Morgeruat, it turns out I don't need those ToB Spell Progression Tables after all--they were in the .ZIP file Grindar sent me. I'll add those to the existing table tonight.
- I mailed my BG1 & ToSC manuals to my friend Andrew to get him hooked. When he copies out the page with the full Thieving Skills & Emails it back to me, I'll make the Thieving Skills page on the website.
- I'll add links to GateKeeper and Shadowkeeper to Appendix 2, not to mention finding the URLs for everything.

Thanks a bunch--I think Appendix 3 will be my list of sources, including you guys.

Chocolate Man 06-24-2002 06:23 PM

Hmmm, I too have had items vanishing from stores. In my current game it was the Sword of the Roses. I looked and looked and it was nowhere to be found. Has anyone else had this problem? I just finished that game and so when i start my next game I will see if it is still missing.

SixOfSpades 06-25-2002 10:16 PM

The Blade of Roses can indeed be found in that specific store, but only AFTER you perform a certain quest will the nifty items in the inventory be open to you. The Adventurer's Mart is similar: You can't access their "Secret Stash" until Chapter 6.

drewal 06-25-2002 11:14 PM

The guide is good Six. Nice anecdotes, well-written. Some very funny suggestions (like the cows in the noble's house, I am going to try that one .... right... now!).

One suggestion, through some color in there. Maybe some screenshots, portraits, etc. You may well already be planning this. If not, I think it would spruce the guide up nicely.

SixOfSpades 06-26-2002 07:32 PM

Thanks, Drewal, I worked hard on it. I like the way it combines the dry, humorless information straight from the manuals with the experience from actually playing the game. ("And that's what Level Drain is. Ain't it a bitch?")

Once I tidy up the last loose ends (the blank Thieving table, the few missing URLs in the Appendix 2) I'll go around decorating the place with some more color. Of course, I want to add things like (non-spoiling) screenshots, but I have a very unique handicap: I wrote the Guide on a computer that is not capable of playing Baldur's Gate. All my good screenshots are stored on a hard drive that got short-circuited a month ago, and is now gathering dust until I can earn the money to either see if it can be fixed, or buy a new one. Until that happens, I can't get any pictures or screenshots. I'll look around on the Net and see if I can find some good ones, though.

drewal 06-26-2002 08:06 PM

I understand...I had to replace a hard drive a few months ago. I'll check out the guide periodcically.
