Large Shield + 1, +5 vs Missile Weapons

Can anyone remember if there is a better shield out there?

Another question,is how many of your party members use shields? In my current party, only 1 does (fighter).

The others use

Bow
Bow
2-Handed Sword
Mage *(cant use shields)*
Staff</font>

There is a Large Shield +2 in TotSC. Better in general, only not as good against missiles.

In my current fake multiplayer party, I have four chracters who use shields, one of which is a Druid who can only use Bucklers and another is a Paladin, who switches between Long Sword + Shield, Two Handed Sword and Crossbow. The others are a Fighter, wielding Battle Axe + Shield and a Cleric; War Hammer + Shield.

The rest are a Mage: Quarter Staff, Darts and a Mage/Thief: Short Sword, Short Bow.

I think it is the best, that plus boots of avoidance, Plate+1, you have someone who is invincible against (most) archers. Armour class is like -10 against missile weapons.

I use shields for 2 of my members, both with various swords.

I'm not aware of a shield that is +5 vs. missiles, but I do know of one that is +4.

I like to give the boots of avoidance and the girdle of piercing to the same character. Combined those reduce AC against arrows by 8. But yeah, with that shield +4 that would amount to someone who is invincible to arrows. AC would be in negaitve territory for most fighters to begin anyway, and then subtract an additional 12 for arrows.

In my current party, I have a Paladin with the Large Shield +1, +4 and a Scimitar, and a Ranger/Cleric with the Large Shield +2 and a hammer.

My fighter/thief uses the Eagle Bow, but switches to Varscona and a Large Shield +1 to backstab.

My Bard uses the Long Bow +1, but switches to a Short Sword +2 and Kiel's Buckler (+1 Dex) for melee.

My Fighter/Mage uses Long Bow of Marksmanship and the Quarterstaff +3, and my Ranger uses the Comp. Bow +1 and the Hlaberd +2.

All my characters who use ranged always need melee weapons, its a habit.

Sorry, Lemernis, you are right. Large Shield +1, +4 vs. missiles.

In my party Kagain, Shar-teel and my guy (3lvl fighter/5lvl mage) uses shield. Best shield what has come along by chapter 5 is small/medium shields +1 (2 mages costs like hell, can't buy new shields) ;)

And those who may laugh to my character, beware! [img]smile.gif[/img] Ac -5 (with robe, and blur spell),mirror image, 11 thaco = kick ass for now, later maybe not but at this point it beated kagain who had 11 thaco and 75hp, ac -2 (had to test it [img]smile.gif[/img] )

looks like there's only +1 and +2 shields in bg1. isnt it better to dualwield a sword than wielding a shield?

Well Lavindathar, on my game, I just checked, it is +1, +4 vs. missile weapons. Do you have a version of the patch? Or ToTSC?

I think one sheild is purchased from a store, and the other is looted after a fight (not forsure which fight).

Is that what is said in the Character Screen? Because you have to remember large shields get a normal +1 bonus vs Missle weapons.

If it says +1 / +5 vs Missles as the name, then disregard the above.

THe +1/+4(vs. Missiles) Large Shield is called the Shield of Falling Stars or something like that.

It is given to you a the end of a quest that you can get by talking to a little boy standing next to the houses to the north of the Mage Hall of Wonders place in Baldurs Gate.

Where is the +2 shield in TOTSC?

the +2 shield is somewhere in the bottom half of Durlag's.
