Obviously Never Winter Nights will be out at some point. However, in the interum you can play a BG look a-like ARCANUM from Sierra (saw the pre-order display in CompUSA today - box at least looks good, who knows what game play will be like though).

Moridin 08-13-2001 09:47 PM

I've asked myself this question many times since I finished ToB. I haven't really played anything, but will probably go out and get IWD and give that a try. I have also considered going with one of the online CRPG's, anyone have any good suggestions?

What to play after TOB - it's a nice question. I'll wait for some unofficial add-ons/add-ins, since it seems no good RPG will be released soon. Wizardry 8? - who knows when it come out at last. Arcanum? - I didn't like it at all (it may be improved someway when full version will be available, but I doubt that it can help a lot).
So, if someone know anything about any good RPG coming soon - share this information with us, please http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

I guess I'll finish up with IWD, which I stopped half-way through when ToB came out. I'll finish it up, with HoW and the new expansion, and then prolly play a character through BG and TotSC and BGII and ToB.

I really wanna play Planescape Torment - A LOT!!!!! I can't find it in stores anymore though.

Other than that I'm just waiting for new games to come out on PS2 - Tekken 4, Metal Gear Solid 2, Tony Hawk 3, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance.

Without a doubt, Dungeon Siege. It looks as good as Neverwinter Nights---even BETTER maybe. And comes with an easy Editor so you can make your own Modules!!!

Check out www.dungeonsiege.com and www.planetdungeonsiege.com

For online:

EVERQUEST at cut above BG series because of infinite possibilities..(make your own armour), (fishing for money), team up with online people...blah
It's hard as you play agianst online veterans. Even +1 stuffs are rare and chain mail you won't see for months. But is REALLY REAL!!!

Icewind Dale is **??!""* worst RPG ever!

storyline " cold...save tree...kill millions undead...cold....kill lizards....kill more stuff....cold again...travel ages...kill final baddie"
Although creating 6 Party members is appealing, it gives 0 interacton! There are altogether 7 villagers and 12 other things that can talk including baddies and a squirrel.

I went with picking up BG1 & TOS (havn't done them yet) - and will take a char. through them all the way to TOB. IWD (at least from the cover) really doesn't do it for me (I'm not much for winter motif). Ive also looked over Wizardry and it didn't seem that great. I did pick up Disciples (for $15) - it was cheap and could be played on Win2k (don't know what game play will be like and I won't even load it in untill I have finishe BG1-TOB). Unfortunetly I don't have the time for online games yet.

For those that havn't done Torment yet I highly recomend it, however it isn't really a game to be played over & over again. (nice thing is that you can get it for $20 US - I've seen it at gamers depot and CompUSA). (trux - I guess its not available on the dark side of the moon.)

Tanada, would you pleas elaborate on what you didn't like about Arcanum and how it compares (or doesn't) to SOA? (nice to know b4 anyone gets the idea of making a purchase.)

Wow Ziroc, nice links! (but like NWN, how soon is soon?) When both are out we all will have to discuss the pros & cons between the 2, choose 1, and formulate a cohesive idea about creating an on line world/domain (maps, history, basic rules & theme) w/ multiple net-connected servers (I've got bandwidth and processor grunt - but not a lot of time for coding development currently).

Wow - Dungeon Siege looks really, REALLY good. Hope the roleplaying will be solid like the graphics are. I'll have to look through those websites for a release date.

Dungeon Seige and maybe Divine Divinity of those games to be released soon. NWN when it comes out, of course. Those should be pretty good choices, especially since the first too are coming out fairly soon.

Ziroc, thanks for the links, Dungeon Siege looks really nice.
And I'm fond of that idea of using packmules http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Let me say at first that my opinion is based on rather large demo of Arcanum (250 MB) - it let you play the actual game through the first three locations and explore wildness if you please. There are a lot of quests even in demo.
It is funny but my dislike of Arcanum was developed due SoA-TOB - after such a magnificent game any comparison was not to the benefit of Arcanum.
Basically, Arcanum is something like Fallout taking place in the beginning of 20th century plus magic - but IMO Fallout was far, far better (in combat, levelling up the characters and involving in the gameplay).
There are NPC's you can take in your party, but nothing like *alive* NPC's from SoA. No NPC's interactions (well, you can say a couple of words to them - like it was in Fallout). Dialogues are nothing like brilliant conversations in SoA, they are just... well... getting information.
May be I should stop whinning, it was only demo actually... But that awful map screen, strange graphics, movement bugs...
Of course, Arcanum HAS its own pluses - but they are fading while comparing to SoA. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif

Avoid everquest at all costs
its game play sucks
most of its quests are boring
for most people who play the game, you play it as item/level quest and not quest quest
and its hard to roleplay in that game, if you take a roleplay stance, people will ostracise you
most big guilds exist for one reason: to get cool items, and the people in those guilds are constantly pissed off about how they didnt get item1 over person B when they do yada yada and person b does nada etc etc, or other situations like that anyhow
If you are gonna play it anyway, then i suggest you play as a class that doesnt need uber equipment to be effective (druids, monks, wizards etc)

ScottG 08-15-2001 07:52 PM

Tanada -

it doesn't sound like your whinning - sounds like grade A legit Beef (paticularly on NPC dialogue). It is possible though that they have done more since the demo.

homsuplee 08-17-2001 08:41 AM

The worst part about games like EverCrap is the people. Most people you meet online are certifiable, grade A , iceholes. The game concept looks good on paper, but when you add people, everything goes straight to somewhere hot in a handbasket. Games like say, (dare I say it) Diablo and other assorted Blizzard games are more tolerable online, because you can play with your friends and kick the pricks off the server. Evercrap however, there's just no avoiding them.

I haven't had the gumption to go out and get Max Payne, but it looks nice in severe way.

Is Black and White down to 20 bucks in anyone's area yet ? I want to try it, but I'm just waiting for the price drop.

Hi, if any of you plan on playing Everquest, there are some points you should consider. This isn't to discourage you, by the way. It's a great game, if you have the time.

(in a way)

there are four base classes in Everquest, out of 12 i think, which will always be needed. Warriors, Clerics, Enchanters, and Rogues. Magicians, Necromancers(my fav), Rangers, Paladins, Shadow Knights, Wizards (my main character), Bards, Shamen, Monks, and Druids are those "would be nice to have" classes. Unlike BG saga, when you chose a wizard you won't get the same as a mage in BG. a Wizard in Everquest serves one main purpose: Deal lots of damage fast.(they also get to teleport all over the place and "bind") However, EQ staff did not develop this character well. Baldur's Gate has many, many items to improve a mage's efficiency. EQ has one. items that increase your mana pool. There are no items that will reduce the cost of spells, the casting time of spells, etc. In all games i played a play a wizard, EQ was no exception. I love my character, however plz consider that classes in EQ are not as balanced as they are in BG. Also, playing warriors is even more boring then in BG. Once again, this is not to discourage you from Everquest, just a foreshadowing of things to come. Enjoy!

P.S. If you plan on starting EQ, check out the Morell Thule server. I'm Ianarie, lvl 38 wizzie - Nuker, Cabbie, Life Saver.

P.P.S. Druids are a LOT more powerful then in BG.

If you think Diablo 2 has good roleplaying then you will be happy.

I know it's not a RPG but i just picked up Black & White and i have to say it absolutey ROCKS!!!
