My lvl 11 assasin has a base thaco of 15 and with the daystar its 12. Is that good? He misses alot when backstabbing. Can someone give me any suggestions on how to give my assasin a better thaco?

What's his strength? Is he specialized in long swords? Thieves have a lower thaco than fighters.

Is he proficient in longswds?
Try giving him:

Better strength helps a lot
Gauntlets of Weapon Expertise
Better lonswords (ie +3)
dual classed from Fighter?
use another weapon with a greater enchantment... in BG2 longswd goes upto +3 but staffs go up to +4 and so do shortswds.

Yeah hes profficient in long swords. For some reason Renal didnt give me a short sword of backstabbing when i told him i killed maevar.

Try building up his strength. Strength can add some huge bonuses to THACO. Give him a girdle, or that one long sword. (I don't remember the name.) There's a long sword that makes strenth 22.

His strength is 18.

My assassin didnt get a sword of backstabing either... hmm, that stinks...

Yeah im pissed. Its a short sword +3 which isnt bad early in the game. I tried pick pocketing Renal but all i got was some invisible potions and some usless rings.

That sword you are talking about (str 22) will show up in Tob. As you are lvl 11, you have a long way to go before you encounter that sword.

You could always refuse the guild as payment, then he'd give you the sword... seeing as the guild is a complete waste of time anyway http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...s/rolleyes.gif

No way the guild is awesome. Not a waste at all. You get so much money being the guild master. Only downfall is that you have to return to the guild and pay off the Shadow Theives. If you dont you lose it and only by paying 4k you can get it back.

If you take the thieves guild, you don't get the +3 short sword. Kinda sucks, unless you think the guild is reward enough. I don't.
