I've been doing a lot of thinking and planning for this.

Perin's Challenge

First off: THIS IS NOT A COMPETITION !!!

Anyone can join in, no one will be judged. Let me explain the idea. Some background info:

The Foe

Memnoch was gracious enough to provide this bit of recon. We know what we are up against. Honestly, I am more excited about this ONE fight than the rest of the game. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

THIS is Perin's Challenge.

I am gonna solo the game (we've been through this idea.) but here's the new thing. I WANT TO DO IT AT THE LOWEST LEVEL POSSIBLE.

To any who accept the challenge and join with me ! The rules are simple: You can play any class, any party that are IN-GAME. No addons allowed, except for the Official patch, GrandMastery patch, and Bonus CD items. No outside kits or items, and no cheese tactics are allowed.

Legit characters and legit fights only.

Screenshots are the only way to be acknowlged. I will post them on the new DawgPound (Coming soon) website, in it's own Perin's Challenge page. In-fight shots will be great, (pause & hit Print Scrn) but the important one is this. A Screenshot set of the fallen foe, and the dialog box scrolling back to see the damage as it happens. This will help us screen out the cheese. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

Whoever kills the Prince is eligible. ANYONE, ANY PARY. Those who choose to do it solo, or low level will be given a special page describing the whole battle, just to encourage the challenge.

If you are intersted in accepting the challenge, get to work !!! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...ievalsmile.gif

Good question. Feel free to email them to me at the account in my profile. I'll host them. If you want to do it yourself, just place the URL here.

Rudedawg, you got guts. I cant even imagine there is a way of finishing the game without being a high level charecter. Soloing is hard enough but when you have to be on the lowest level possible thats nigh on impossible. Count me out, good luck to all you guys doing the challenge, I still dont see how Perin's going to shoot his way out of this one.

Sigmar, buddy!

You don't NEED to try for the low level! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/screama.gif

WHOMEVER defeats the Prince in a legit game can have the screenshots posted!

If someone does it SOLO or at LOW LEVEL, they will get a page to themselves, with a narrative descrition (Story) written by me. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/hihi.gif

Perin Lighteyes is an Elven Archer, with a Chaotic Good alignment.

These are natural rolls. I rolled until I got my first STR of 18 (I wanted the fighter bonus) which took less than 10 rolls.

These are his Level 7 stats, which I will be starting over at. These are before any items, weapons, or armor.

STR - 18/96
DEX - 19 (Elven bonus, +1)
CON - 17 (Elven disadv, -1)
INT - 9 (dumb tank. Easily confused)
WIS - 15 (can barely use Ranger spells)
CHR - 8 (ugly as sin. Scarred, Marred, & Charred)

AC - 6 HP - 62 THAC0 - 14
Racial Enemy - Dragons

The only items I will take and use are : MoonDog figurine, Shadow Dragon scale, Boots of Speed, Bracers of Archery, Belt of Inetial Barrier, Periapt of Life Protection, Ring of Reg, and the Ring of the Ram. I also like to get the set of Ion stones (I can't imagine an Archer useing helmets)

Weapons are simple: Mana Bow, Celestial Fury, Flame Tongue, and Daystar. Arrows of Biting, Dispelling, and +2.

As you can see, he is not a god, or even CLOSE. This is why I love the challenge.
http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...ievalsmile.gif

SUPERMAN was not brave. He could never be hurt. BATMAN, on the other hand, risked his life everytime he went out. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif So does Perin.

Impressive Rudedawg but I've noticed he dosen't have a cloak or more importently the cloak of reflection, it's really useful when soloing so why dont you?

Memnoch and I both call it the Cloak of Cheating. TOO Powerful. You'll notice that I also don't use Crom Faeyr or the Mace of Disruption. Only longswords and katanas, and my bow. It provides a challenge that way.

I'm trying to ROLEPLAY the charcter as I see an Elven Ranger. Not a god. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/hihi.gif

Of course, if anyone wants to powergame for the Challenge, they are welcome to !!!

This is pretty much the way I play the game already. The only reason I took off the exp. point cap is for TOB (and because if you earned it you should receive it.) Frankly I don't think it would have made 1 bit of difference w/out the cloak (mirrors?reflection?whatever the spellturner job is), Crom, or add. exp. points. (I had done all of the side quests, red dragon & beholders & Gaxx included before I entered chp. 3 - I think it was something like 35 days B4 I entered chp. 3). I never really needed the Crom with a good stock of Power of One spells. (Check out my "the best BG2 player char." post for details on the crew.)

Sounds like a fun challenge, and it is. But I have been their and done that.

SSJ4Sephiroth 06-19-2001 12:15 AM

bump, because people should know of this challenge, and they should also know that i will be the first to finish it! I AM THE PRINCE OF ALL SAIYANS ONCE AGAIN!!! sorry, that just slipped http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/FRblush.gif

This is an excellent initiative, RudeDawg! Little Perin certainly has a death wish. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/noncgi/smiles/eek.gif Are you sure that this will be…healthy…for Perin and his little bow? Remember, this is the most supreme of Abyssal princes we are talking about here, a monstrous denizen that stands head(s) and shoulders above his fellows, such luminaries as Juiblex, Orcus, Kostchchie and the rest.

If little Perin does succeed (miracles do happen http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif ) his name will be written forever in the annals of history! Otherwise, there won't be enough of little Perin left to make a sentence. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/hihi.gif

Go forth with your bow, little Perin! ‘Tis a brave thing you do.

Valid point Rudedawg but i'm still curious why doesn't Perin have any cloak at all, I cant picture a ranger without a cloak. The cloak of reflection may be too good but all the other ones in bg1 and 2 are not so whats your reason? (By the way thanks for telling me Perin's stats)

I used the Cloak of Non-Detection, or Displacement at first. Then I asked myself....

In a PnP game, is it likely that a single character will be completly equiped in magical array?

A weapon or three, maybe some armor or rings or boots....
but, EVERYTHING????

I'm not telling anyone else how to play, but I've been removing stuff for a while. I don't use an uber-weapon. I don't have a blunt weapon at all, so I have to figure out golems and such. I have NOTHIN that can hit Kangaxx. (I've killed before solo, I have nothin to prove)

I'll drop off the two rings I'm wearig; Ring of the Ram and Ring of Reg. And the Periapt of Life Protection. (IRL, I never wear jewelry)

I still believe I can take out the BIG BAD GUY.

Memnoch, I didn't say it would be easy... We all know I'll be reloading a lot...
but, I will do it.

And, Timberwolf???

Ahh, I see where you're coming from RD, you want the world to be less of magic, and the magic that is there shouldn't be that common, but when it is it should be powerful (I think). It is a good idea, but I think alot of us play the games because it is magic and might that is making it fun.

The notion of less magic is good, but then some of the monsters (and the cheats to make it harder), probably shouldn't be in your realm or world. I guess it is more a balance that we all look for, some want magic flowing like water in the world, or as rare as hen's teeth, and when you decied which way to go, how will you make it fun, and not too extreem.

Btw, you could have magic on every part, especially if Perin was an adapt fletch, and with his druid buddies they have learned how to gather nature's forces into there bows and arrows. And if Perin is traveler and a bit of a drinker and tradesman, he could easily work out trades of high quality archery gear for magic gear from the other tradesmen.

Just a though

I soloed through BG2 with a Kensai but the idea of taking on DemoGorgon solo horrifys me, that and its not the kind of the thing he would do, my Kensai is a vicous evil scumbag and certainly wouldnt go up againt the Prince for laughs, in fact hed probably let him free for a price.

Id do it as a sorcerer, project image, improved aclarity followed by the summoning of 5 planetars would make it relitavly easy, when I say easy thats opposed to my Kensai, hell I might try it.

Oh I should mention I have gone through ToB already and my party completly hammered him.

There is a bug with Similacrum/Project Image and summoning. A party can only have a total of 5 creatures and only one Planetar/Deva at any time. However, a Projected Image and/or Similacrum is not a member of your party, and can summon five of their own. You can only summon multiple planetars, if your original real NPC doesn't have one summoned at the same time.
