im almost finnished BG 1 again, and i plan on playing through my PC from BG 1 to the end of SOA, cause i dont have TOB.
hes a half elf fighter cleric multiclass and i was wondering if i could have some suggestions towards a good party.
hes a neutral good.
edwin is a must cause i havnt used him yet and he left in BG 1 cause i didnt kill dinaher. i want to romance somebody, possible arie or viconia, but both being clerics it may not be usefull. any ideas appreciated.

You want to play a good-aligned party...and Edwin is a must. Interesting.

If you've played the game too many times and you haven't played with Edwin yet, why not play as a Neutral Evil fighter/thief and do an evil party? Being evil is not only challenging, but also fun in a strange, demented way. I recommend Edwin, Korgan, Viconia, Cernd, and Jan. There's still a romance option and the banters will be fantastic.

If you really want to play a good character (being evil in BG1 is tough business) might I recommend an all-spellcaster party? Make your PC the party tank and rely on everyone else's spellcasting for backup. Or you could pick characters like Haer'Dalis and Valygar for fighter/spellcasters.

Or why not download modded NPCs?

Some good suggestions Pirengle, i have to agree, if you absolutely MUST play with Edwin, its easier to make your party evil.

For a good party, i suggest trying an all tank group. You (f/c), Jahiera (f/d), Minsc (r), Keldorn (p), Valygar, Yoshimo (t). Covers all the bases.

Indeed, if you've already played BG2 through once, then try evil. The Valen NPC will do wonders to keep you on path. And Viconia's romance is wonderful too - make sure you download the banter packs too.

i had a think and i might try solufein, PC, nalia, virconia, edwin and mazzy, because i have never used any of them before. are there any problems about alignment within this party, i mean will anybody leave the party because of charicter clashes? such as the one with aire and korgan

shamrock_uk 04-12-2005 07:15 AM

That should be an ok (if bizarre) party - I think Mazzy has an amusing dialogue with Edwin where she threatens to kill him but it doesn't come to blows.

If you're playing with Sola then watch out for his encounters - if you're not used to Tactics difficulty then these will be extremely tough. If you're playing a good party I would advise you to leave Bodhi-hunting in Chapter 6 until your characters are quite powerful ;)

timothy trotter 04-13-2005 01:21 AM

what do you mean encounters? i dont have tactics or ease of use or anything like that installed. i think the only one i have is kelsey. dunno about mazzy, just seemed reasonable cause i havnt used her before. how about keldorn? does he have any bad reactions to other members listed above?

Northraven 04-13-2005 03:11 AM

Keldorn WILL try to kill Viconia if he is in the party with her for any length of time. If you are going with the Fighter/Cleric and wish to take Viconia for the romance optiion then maybe consider Korgan as your mainline tank. Soulafein comes in late to the game so you may not want to rely on him either.

Here's a possible party suggestion:
1.Mazzy
2.you (Fighter/Cleric)
3.Korgan
4.Viconia
5.Jan
6.Edwin

That's pretty balanced with two Mage spellcasters, 2 Clerics, a character with thief skills and 2 Tanks plus a backup (you). As far as I know none of these characters will try to kill each other. Also, form an RP point of view the party is a good mix of Good and Evil with a few Neutrals to balance things out

hrm yeah dunno about jan he sems to annoy me too much. i reckon ill go for nalia instead. cause im a multiclass, do i get the cleric stronghold or the fighter one?

Deathsangel 04-13-2005 10:57 AM

Whichever you go first for.

What Shamrock meant is that the encounters of Solaufein are as tough as those form Tactis. Meaning the enemy cheats many a times, though not always, and is (extremely) overpowered.

You can download mods for other evil parties as well. But it seems you more of a person who wants to try out everything. So just go with what you want to go with.

Northraven 04-13-2005 12:41 PM

Hehe I understand what you are saying about Jan being anoying...but is Nalia any better? "I just wanted to help", "Do you help people all the time", etc. My advice if you take Nalia is kick her out for Imoen later, which you probably would have done with Jan anyways.

Keldin 04-13-2005 02:38 PM

I don't find Imoen any less annoying than Nalia. At least Nalia can speak a complete sentence without stuttering her way through it. They both have high dex so they can contribute with a bow especially Tuigan's. They both have a hefty amount of HP for a mage. Imoen has better picklocking skill but they both can find and disarm traps equally well. What can't be picked/disarmed can be overcome with knock/potions.

From an evil point of view Edwin is a no brainer. Simply the best pure mage in the game.

From a RP point of view, getting to Spellhold quickly to rescue Imoen makes sense. You can do the side quests after Underdark.

From a good aligned point of view Nalia is the best choice if you want to do a lot of questing before you hit Spellhold. If you quest before Spellhold then Nalia is a good 3+ levels above your sister and with nearly a full spellbook.

A couple other observations:

Having Nalia and Edwin in the same party is quite fun. She teases him endlessly and Edwin makes a lot of threatening dialog towards her. It's a powerful mage combo for the Tactics mod but overkill for anything else.

timothy trotter 04-14-2005 02:21 AM

do i have to have tactic mod installed to get these encounters that you are talking about with solufine that are so hard? i dont have it so is this good or bad for me.

timothy trotter 04-18-2005 03:42 AM

an update, ive decided against solufein because he come in too late into the story. so i want to try another paladin and seing as though keldont wont happen with viconia, ill look for a mod NPC
