Tactical spoilers ahead:
. . . . . . . . . . You can protect from Wing Buffet! . . . . . . How? SPELL SHIELD! ;) I've tested this a couple of times and it works. If you put a Spell Shield on some fighter/mage type of NPC (Solaufein, Haer'Dalis, various PC - Kensai/Mage, ...) you can whack dragons and they cannot Buffet you away! This is very bad dragon news... :D |
Nice find matey :D
Wing buffet has been one of the few dragon abilities that can ever mess up my carefully made plans. Usually gives them at least 3 seconds extra life while I have to run up to them to beat them to death again. |
Awesome! This is going to aid my exploits immensly! ;)
|
guess who's sorceror has spell shield? :D

So...it grants immunity to the previously-unblockable Wing Buffet, as well as the previously-unblockable Anti-Magic Ray?!? Now we'll have to test it to see its function against psionics such as Detonate and Project Force.

wow.. very nice find indeed.. i hate that wing buffet
|
Wing buffet is not a spell though, it's a pysical attack..
But even when a dragon is able to buffet you away it's only a short walk back into the fray. |
Yes, that's true. The game engine obviously treats Wing Buffet as some sort of spell which Spell Shield can block.
It is very cheesy to me - actually game engine exploit so I might not use this trick. (Maybe in one NRL game I will... :D ) |
but it only works once right?
|
You mean if Spell Shield is removed after the first wing buffet? NO.
Some visual proofs: http://img153.exs.cx/img153/6883/wingbuffet11cv.jpg http://img214.exs.cx/img214/6828/wingbuffet28oc.jpg http://img214.exs.cx/img214/4031/wingbuffet38mm.jpg With PFMW and Spell Shield (and SI:Abj., since dragons like to cast Remove Magic) you can just stand there and yawn... :D |
It's rather hard to believe a large dragon in a real fight would not be able to chew through your helmet just because you were "Protected from Magical Weapons". And I don't even want to think about the weirdness of Spell Shield blocking Wing Buffet.
Dragon: "Perish, you manling!" Dragon: Attacks < CHARNAME > < CHARNAME >: Casts Protection from Magical Weapons < CHARNAME >: Protected from Magical Weapons Dragon: Attack roll 18+3=21 : Hit Dragon: Weapon Ineffective Dragon: "My fangs! Welcome to the magic world of BG2!
|
If would be great if the dragons cast spell shield on themselves! I hate it that they are not immune against their own wing buffet.
|
Nice information Leslie, I think I will use it quite often. :D
|
Since the Infinity Engine treats many things as spells, the Spell Shield is the sneakiest and most useful tool available. If you look into such things, you will find that even traps (at least some traps) are treated as spells....

Oh. It's been a while since i played the game. Back in the day the Big Red One had a deathwish, and kept cheating me out of my well deserved exp. Good to see this has been fixed :D
