Alright, this is both my intro and my questian thread!

First, the intro. I've played BG1 + 2 a couple of times, only making it thought both once. Kept restarting and trying out new chars. Anways, for the recerd, I switch games a LOT. Somtimes I could play D2 for 2 months nonestop, then swtich to SC for 5 months and play nonestop. Now that we got some history on my gaming life, lets move on to the Q eh?

Well one of the reasons I played thought the first BG1 was to get those 1337 s4@c3 tombs and manuals. By the end of BG1, my fighter was 19/19/19/19.15/11 (Yup its sexy :D ) Well, I quickly took my Quick Save (Oh and another questian, when I first beat the game I realized my PC had no golden pantaloons, so naturaly I when thought the fight and killed "the evil guy" agian, and the game said it had made a Final Save. But when I look back, it was gone. I deletd my intial final save because it served no purpose. Back to the subject...)So I took my quick save and put it in my BG2 folder. When I imported my char and went though all that boring "ahh the child of bhall has awoken" stuff, I realized I had 76 HP!!! I finished BG1 with 90 HP! Then I took my 19 con and calculated it, and it turns out I should have 115 HP! What gives?

Sorry for the rambling btw

Oh and one other thing, I set the Difficulty level to lowest, and that didnt work.

If you had items that gave you + Con or + HP, they would be removed during the importation.

You will only be level 7 at the start of BG2, unless you did TotSC, in which case you would be level 8.

Given you are level 7:

7*10 = 70 (that's IF you had maximum hit dice rolls enabled during BG1, if you didn't it would just take the HP from your character file). After that it adds the Con bonus.

Theoretically that would be 35 if your constitution really still is 19.

Check to see what your CON is in BG2, and adjust accordingly. If you finished BG1 with 90 hp, then you only had 55 of 70 possible HP from actual hit dice.

You take that, and add 7*3 (21) and you get 76.

My theory is that BG2 read your actual HP from hit dice (55 given by 90 (what you said you finished with) - 35 (CON bonus when CON is 19)), and added the new CON bonus (in this case your CON somehow went down to 17). Check to see what your new CON is, then reply back. If it's still 19, then the problem may correct itself when you gain another level.

I started a newgame and varius difficultys, and when its at maxium HP rolls, its always 76 HP, when I put it on BG1 rules, I always get 95...I checked and my con is 19. When I look at my charcter screen, it says +5 hP at level up. And being a fighter, that should transelate to 15 HP per level. 7*15 =105 hmmm, this is really wierd...

You mentioned if i gained a level it would correct itself? Making a leap from 76-120HP?

Edited my math. Had a bit of a brain fart

welcome to Ironworks!

you could always bump your base HP up with Shadowkeeper - it's not entirely obvious how it works iirc but a bit of tinkering should see you right

morally though, i assume you didn't have 19 CON for all your early level-ups, right? ;)

Welcome to IW KillerTomato, interesting name :D

Riftmaker 10-19-2004 11:58 AM

@Killer:

I personally don't understand what the game is doing. I'd just say screw it and use ShadowKeeper to modify your hp to 90 (what you had when you finished BG1) provided you didn't lose any HP boosting equipment along the way.

That will probably solve your problems.

@Armen:

CON bonuses are retro-active.

KillerTomato61 10-19-2004 11:24 PM

I have a Q about Shadow Keep. It says my base HP is at 41, but in the game its at 76. what gives? If I set my base hp at 105, would it give me some insaner HP bonus or something? Im confused :(

Ahhhhh, that explains everything.

It all makes sense now.

41 (base HP) + 35 (Con Bonus) = 76.

BG2 will not re-roll your HP if you import from BG1. The rule setting only affects new level-ups gained while playing BG2. Because you obviously didn't have max HP enabled while playing BG1 (hence the 41 base HP), It could be considered cheese to simply change it now because you don't like it.

You still never answered my question about HP boosting equipment. Did you ever get any equipment that either increased your CON or HP during BG1?

If so, that equipment would've been removed during the import process, and could account for the 14 HP loss.

So don't edit anything yet, load up BG1 and see if your PC is wearing anything that increases his/her CON or HP.

If the answer is yes, say how much your HP/CON was increased by.

If the answer is no, then change your "base HP" in SK to 55. That will restore your HP to what it was during BG1. No sense in cheating to give your character HP he/she never really gained.

KillerTomato61 10-20-2004 08:41 PM

Hmmm this is wierd. To answer your questian, I didnt have any HP boosting gear. But whats wierd is at BG1, I put the difficulty to the lowest, but I didnt get max HP roll. Oh and check this out, if I put BG2 at BG1 rules, I get 95 HP!! How does THAT happen?

Oh and another thing, when I played BG1, I thought there was no way to make the game always give me max HP. Since I want to have a 100% legit char, I'm thinking of replaying BG1. So can someone also tell me how to enable always max HP?

Actually, now that you mention it, I don't think that it is possible to get max HP rolls....besides saving the game before activating the level up. I think you can re-load if you don't like the HP roll. That's what I did anyway.

I honestly don't know how the game determines the different HP between the rulesets. However, I will have a peek when I get home tomorrow night.

KillerTomato61 10-21-2004 09:40 AM

Whats wierd is thats what I did. since I had 15 max HP at each level up, I kept reloading and the like till I got that 15 HP. Thats really odd....well lets hope you can figure this out :D

KillerTomato61 10-22-2004 10:21 PM

Im really really sorry for this bump, but Im in terrible need of an answer to Riftmaker's statement about getting max hp in bg1. Agian, Im sorry for this bump!

oh and one more thing! when i DONT use the normal/novice rules in BG2, and use the core and normal d&d rules, I get 95 HP! Whats going on?

Hey killertomato, to have a look at what you're trying to find out specifically, I would have to have your character file...

Could you e-mail it to me?

:D

Then I could have a look and figure it out...'cause I don't have bg1 anymore.

KillerTomato61 10-23-2004 05:22 PM

Stupid stupid me...I wiped all BG files off my comp in order to try and see that maybe...just maybe it was something to do with the install being buggy. Unfortunatly, I was stupid enough to forget to back up my chars :( . Well, I plan on another go at BG1, and I am looking forward to it, so I guess Ill reinstall BG1 and 2 and go from there. When I import, Ill PM you Rift :D We shall figure out the calculation error!
