I reloaded bg 2 for the 1000th time and started a sorc to solo. Im now at the Planar Sphere, in the room where the fire elelmentals spawn when you feed to furnaces the coal... the adjoining room is connected via a walkway that has a trap that seemingly kills my character every single time he walks on it.

I have skeleton summons and the Mordainkinens sword but neither set it off for me, i have no charm so i cant get a knight of solamnia to set it off for me either.

Is there a way of getting past this area because i need to get the head from the other side of the walkway to proceed with the game!

You have a few options, but most of them involve cheating.

The option that doesn't involve cheating: if you have any potions of magic blocking, drink one. High magic resistance will subvert trap damage and high saving throws might do the trick too. Try a potion of power for those.

Some familiars have trap-disarming abilities.

Unfortunately, you're in a place where you can't borrow an NPC to set off that trap for you. You could activate the CLUA console and put a charm scroll in your inventory or one of those potions I mentioned. But cheating like this should be a last resort.

have you tried all of the spell protection approaches to avoiding trap damage (i'm no expert on them by the way - just a suggestion)

good luck

Try Mirror Image for preventing trap damage. I think there's still a chance that you get hit, but it decreases the odds a little bit. If I remember correctly.

Edit: Forgive my rudeness... Welcome to IW!

How does it kill your character? Power word kill or magic damage? For power word kill you should raise your hp like tensers, if for magical damage globe of invulnerability or protection from energy(level 8 i think) or spell immunity(to the spell class which is killing you). Or cheat. Ctrl Q a sahugin or something.

To avoid cheating i reloaded to a previous save and took yoshimo with me :D

Ummm....but isn't this a SOLO game? Taking Yoshimo with you, even just for a trap, ruins your solo game. It isn't a solo anymore.

If he wants to do that, who are you to question him?

Mirror image helps against Meele and some magic traps,Globe of invulnerability takes away the spells from lvl4 and lower. And stone skin should also help against Meele damage.I can only wish you god luck on your solo Journey from here on.Pssst : Sorcerer is a realy good and Fun choise for solo.

That's true, i'm a nobody. Don't listen to me. By all means, do whatever you want to enjoy the game...

I would rather 'charm' Yoshimo and take him with me into the Sphere so he can set off that trap for me, than use cheats ;)

Why not just make your game a duo or trio? I actually find those types of games more fun than a solo. You'll still level up way faster than a regular group of 6 so by the end the party is all-powerful, you can benefit from the NPC's quests, and you won't have to worry about whether the game is a "true" solo.

I'm just thinking that if you couldn't get past a trap in the Planar Sphere as a solo sorcerer, you may run into quite a few more challenges that you're not quite ready to take on solo. Play the game through a few more times with some backup (i.e. NPCs) and then try again.

Ah, what the heck. Just play the game and have fun with it.
