I currently have myself, as a neutral good mage, Minsc, Jaheira, Yoshimo and Jan in my party, and I'm going to free Imoen. BUT: I have a strong urge to get a competent cleric, and I'm asking

1)Could someone tell me where to find a non-evil cleric who doesn't suck, near the start of the game, if possible.

and 2)Who to sack. For roleplaying reasons it can't be Minsc, Jaheira of Imoen (they're my FRIENDS! I can't just abandon them!) so it's either Yoshimo or Jan. Who is better?

Wyldman 09-22-2004 09:30 AM

Don't worry. The descision will be made for you. ;)

Armen 09-22-2004 09:38 AM

well Imoen is part mage and part thief so if you don't have a spare slot she'll replace either jan or yoshimo - i would hang on to both of them until you get imoen back and then decide on the basis of which has been most useful or you enjoyed most

there's an inn in the slums area called the copper coronet - have a walk around the inn and you'll find a solid cleric

Commo 09-22-2004 09:48 AM

Aarie or how ever you spell it isnt a bad cleric/mage cross breed but out of jan and yosh id get rid of yosh

Iron Greasel 09-22-2004 10:44 AM

Thanks!

Aerie and Jaheira combined fulfilled all my clerical needs. Aerie even types. :D Aerie's a little waif that you can meet in the promenade. And, you may take a little while trying to rescue Imoen -- it depends on how you play the game -- but the point is you can run a full compliment of 6 characters until then.

Ivelliis 09-22-2004 11:10 AM

I prefer Aerie, even though she may not be the most powerful cleric in the circus ( ;) ) her mage/cleric combo is powerful from around the middle of the game onwards.

Iron Greasel 09-22-2004 12:06 PM

I hope this Imoen thing will be done soon. I payed What's-his-name, does it get worse? Another thing: Whats with this "Jaheira cursed"-stuff? does it kill her eventually or something?

Timber Loftis 09-22-2004 12:29 PM

Is Jaheira cursed in your game? You'll know it when it happens. Remember, with infinite reloads, nothing can't be undone. ;)

If you mean "Do I have to keep paying through the nose to get answers," then No.
If you mean "Do I have to keep killing nasty things to get to Imoen," then Yes.

All of the quests in the game automatically enter themselves in your Journal, and all important information that you'll need to solve the quests is put there. Read, think, do. Also, there's a small error in the game: After the curse is lifted, Jaheira says that she'll be all right after a good night's sleep. But Resting does not do the trick: It's actually the passage of 12 hours (or was it 24) that fully restores Jaheira to normal, whether you've Rested or not.

I think Yoshimi is at his best after his experiences in Spellhold. I recommend keeping him so you can see the critical development in his usefulness that will occur.

Feral 09-22-2004 05:38 PM

I dunno, Hank. I didn't think his heart was in it anymore after the adventure in Spellhold.

However, I would certainly keep him until then. He is the best thief in the game and has some excellent dialogue.

yep

seriously Iron Greasel the best advice anyone could give you for your first game is to stay the hell away until you've played through once

(maybe read six of spades' guide first)

Feral 09-23-2004 09:13 AM

Good advice, Armen.

This is where SixOfSpades' guide is: help me, don't spoil me

Timber Loftis 09-23-2004 10:53 AM

OMG -- poor guy! Run! Run!!! Come back after you've finished Shadows of Amn, and tell us how it was.

Dave_the_quack 09-24-2004 12:43 PM

LoL mate, Id take their advice on the run part.... I have been spoiled on EVERYTHING in the game..... basically I did Irenicus' Chateau and then googled to find this site, and never looked back. No matter HOW hard people try not to spoil, it happens anyways :D

And the temptation to read spoilers is just too hard to resist.... has anyone else had this problem? perhaps there is some sort of support group I can attend to stop myself from succumbing to the power of the word "spoiler"....

Memnoch 09-24-2004 01:27 PM

Enjoy the game, Iron Greasel - as the others have said, don't spoil yourself. You'll love it. Ignorance is certainly bliss in this case.

Iron Greasel 09-27-2004 08:42 AM

"Don't get spoiled"? Good advice, i'll try that

Dirty Meg 09-27-2004 09:02 AM

I would chuck Yoshimo. Jan is a multi class so has a HUGE advantage at later stages, though unless you want me to give away stuff which you will have more fun learning yourself, I won't tell you why.

Riftmaker 09-27-2004 04:28 PM

As per the competent cleric question:

You have two options.

a) There's a particular side quest that requires you to recruit someone. If you do that before you go get Imoen, can Yoshi. If you're gonna do that AFTER you get Imoen, then you'll end up canning Jan anyway.

b) You don't really NEED 2 thieves in your party. Jan is a perfectly good thief, and Yoshi is just sub-par. If you're keeping Yoshi for his fighting skills, then can him and pick up the cleric in the Copper Coronet. Hint, you will want to wait a while before getting Imoen if you do that.

arfananwel 09-28-2004 06:20 AM

Throw away yoshimo and take aerie, she's the good cleric I prefer (anomen sucks with his dialogs, and viconia is evil). You have Jan and Iomen as thieves, it's clearly enough !

rily83 09-30-2004 12:25 AM

Anomen is the most useful cleric npc you can find in the game. He is moderately proficient in combat and in the late game will probably reach the same clerical power as viconia. The only problem is his annoying personality, esp if you play a female character(check out his lame pick-ups). So if you r a true rpg gamer, jus get hold of anomen, kill his sister's murderers and watch him get kicked out of the order of radient hearts. Viconia would be my choice but you said non-evil, so......... Aerie is sorta whinny and dies very quickly. But her mage/cleric abilities will be scary if she survives to high levels. Think time stop plus cleric spells like flamestrike/ touch of death or party spells. So its your call really
