Hey hey guys and gals!

Just wanna say first up that I've been reading this forum for years, and thought it was time to sign up. Thanks for all the help!

Now just some info on me Im a chronic restarter, a SERIOUS chronic restarter. I've owned this game for god knows how long (over 2 years) and go through various stints of playing and non playing. Im proud to say, the last game I played was a Pit fighter (TDD) dualled to a theif, and it was the first game I played that I actually continued into Chapter 4. Heh. How bad is that. I ended up finishing last night, so I've decided to play with two characters this time, a sorc and a knife bearer.

Now that that's outta the way, to the point!

I wanna know where you can get a throwing dagger that returns to you REALLY early in the game. Like somewhere I can head out almost straight away after Irenicus' chateau. I dont mind if its not enchanted... I'm just not fussed on continually carrying around throwing daggers.

SPOIL ME BABY!

-Dave

There is a party within one of the inns in the bridge district, one of them carries the boomerang dagger.

You can either just kill them right there or start a quest (that ultimately leads to you killing them IIRC) via a limited wish.

Welcome BTW :D

Illumina Drathiran'ar 08-28-2004 11:42 AM

The quest does not ultimately lead to killing them. I don't even know if a party in Chapter Two would be able to do such a thing... and this all reeks of powergaming anyway, in my opinion.
Pickpocket it instead... if you must. Or just bite the bullet and wait a while.

They're not that strong?

limited wish quest is do-able in chapter 2 with Dave's set up:

sell everything - buy limited wish scroll - cast from scroll etc . . .

i had a fun solo with a dagger wielding kensai once (i 'hired' aerie to read the scroll) but i dualled him to thief at 13 and got bored in spellhold once UAI kicked in

welcome Dave, by the way

Illumina Drathiran'ar 08-28-2004 01:39 PM

It's kind of a waste to read from a Limited Wish scroll when you could just wait... But fine, let's say you did that. Then there are several places to go that might be difficult, and you also need to *find* the areas in question... starting quests... I don't know, it just gives me a squick.

Dace De'Briago 08-28-2004 01:46 PM

If you have throne of bhaal installed you could dart across to Watcher's Keep to grab a rather nice throwing dagger on the first level...

Dave_the_quack 08-28-2004 06:12 PM

Heya,

Thanks for all the help folks!

Illumina, its not really a powergaming thing, its just ... well sort of an "ease of use" thing. If there is a returnable throwing dagger early on to be had, i'd much rather pursue that than wasting money on throwing daggers ;)

That being said, you probably weren't even talking to me, heh.

HOW COME NOONE HAS DONE THE SMILIE WELCOME FOR ME? I sort of feel left out!

Thanks for all the help everyone Ive decided to pickpocket the guy in bridge district... then head to watchers keep. Cant wait to get my hands on firetooth though... *laughs evilly*

Dart, not Dagger.

Dave_the_quack 08-28-2004 10:29 PM

Damn. Is there anywhere else where I can grab a good throwing dagger apart from underdark?

(not including delosar's inn)

Shadow015 08-28-2004 11:28 PM

Can't say I can think of one, and I've beat the unmodded game three times before I discovered the joys of the internet. Of course, I'm addicted to mods now.... ME LIKEY DEL! ME LIKEY- *cough* sorry. That's one I can't wait for.

Dave_the_quack 08-29-2004 12:24 AM

I know its off topic... but shadow...

whats this Del business? I know there is a Del Vampire in the game... is someone making a mod out of the character or summin?

Where do you get firetooth from? ( <---- half asleep today )

bjorn 08-29-2004 05:52 AM

IIRC it's in underdark.

Xen 08-29-2004 06:07 AM

Firetooth can be bought in Ust Natha.

just wanna say welcome ;)

Annatar 08-29-2004 05:46 PM

Also wanna welcome you... don't mind all those non-welcomers.. BGII consumes their time to much! :D

SixOfSpades 08-30-2004 01:57 AM

I just want to get on my soapbox and declaim to the world that while the Boomerang Dagger and Firetooth are very nice weapons, they are just too nice for me to use as a primary weapon. I don't mind their +1 to Attacks per Round, that's par for the course for Throwing Daggers, but why the hell do they do 2D4 damage instead of the 1D4 that is common to ALL other Daggers? And they add the user's Strength bonus to the damage, as well.

In short, I would have a Thief or Mage use them, not a Warrior. Or, at most, I'd have a Warrior use them only when his primary ranged weapon wasn't enchanted enough to hit the target. That's it. Soapbox off.

Actually, I was referring to the Delainy mod over at Gibberlings 3. Sorry if I confused you.

Hmm. Didn't realize Boomerang and Firetooth had anything special besides + to hit and damage... probably because they're the only throwing daggers I've ever used.

browns1977 08-30-2004 11:34 AM

Welcome to the forum!

Dave_the_quack 08-30-2004 11:30 PM

Six,

I totally understand where you are coming from. I find it both amusing and ... scary really, that my THIEF is doing around 15 damage (god i hope im remembering right) each hit with the boomerang dagger. I also saw that the damage per round was 2d4, but thought nothing of it at the time.

Can you think of a reason as to why these throwing daggers would have this damage adjustment on them? Seeing as they are the only two throwing daggers (that i know of, forgive me if im wrong) I just assumed that it must be par for the course for all enchanted throwing daggers to be this enchanted. Can anyone who actually knows what they are talking about (ie, not me) confirm this?

Id just like to say WOOHOO my first post has 23 replies lol! I cant believe it, especially considering the subject. :-D Ill stop being a proud fool now.... or until my next post gets no replies

Spanks.

Hivetyrant 09-03-2004 09:21 AM

Hey Dave, heres one more for good luck...

How is it going to return to you if it's not enchanted? I want me one of them non-magic boomarang daggers IRL.

By the way, really glad to hear you made it to Chapter 4 with TDD. I've recently finished the game with this mod, myself. Did you end up finishing the game with TDD, and are you still using it? If so, is your knife-bearer a kit from the mod, and what is the base class (fighter or rouge)?

Dave_the_quack 09-07-2004 11:34 AM

HEYA HANK!

Lol... Dr Dave? Fair enough... but then again, ill respond to anything.

I dunno, the enchanted bit was just in case there was like a normal throwing dagger that returns to you. lol. Shuddup! I know in IWD there were several "non-enchanted" arrows that returned after they were fired.

Although, Ive always wondered how gross they would look on the return... ughh...

Note: by non-enchanted I mean no bonus to THACO or damage.... does that make more sense? Or were you just having a big ole dig at me

A knife bearer's base class is the rogue, thief to be exact. In order to get the kit to activate make sure your character is a halfling ;)

Not a bad class I dont think... but yeah I dont like the idea of having a single theif. Im probably going to do my chronic restart thing ALL over again.

On a final note, yeah I finished SOA with it, couldnt be bothered taking it further into TOB... my character was just too powerful. A pit-fighter ==> thief ended up having around 200 hp... and with slow regen thats outrageous lol. And yes, im planning on keeping the mod installed, me likes me likes!

Hank Parsons 09-07-2004 04:51 PM

Yay. I was tooling around in TDD again recently, on the Return To Candlekeep mega-quest which happens after you defeat Irenicus in Hell, but before you transition into ToB. It's at the very end of the SoA game, so you have to make it that far if you want to encounter the final quests of TDD. So don't restart this time!

"Quack" is an old slang term for a Doctor.

What does Asp's Nest do? And welcome to the board!

It's a deadlier version of Darts of Wounding. If memory serves me well, you cannot avoid the poison damage from Asp's Nests via saves, so you got to have Poison Immunity to counter it.

However, Asp's Nests are exceedingly rare, especially when you consider how fast you can use up Darts.

Link 09-09-2004 05:22 AM

Aaah that explains some. I was wondering why Asp's Nest hadn't been mentioned yet. But as it's a dart (I knew it was rare; only Ribald sells some) it's not useful for this particular pc.
