A friend of mine sent me this link to a forum thread over at rpgdot.

http://www.rpgdot.com/phpBB2/viewtop...?t=118508&f=42

I guess the next issue of PC Gamer will have a preview of Baldur's Gate III. I havn't read PC Gamer since they stopped making those monster 300 page issues. Those were the days, wern't they, but I might buy this next issue.

What do you guys think?

T-D-C 07-25-2004 10:32 PM

Yeah I was keeping my eye out for the next issue and havn't seen it yet. Any idea when its out?

Grojlach 07-26-2004 05:41 AM

I think PCGamer will eventually end up in Dutch stores just the same, but keep us informed regardless. Can't say I'm not curious.

RoSs_bg2_rox 07-26-2004 06:13 AM

I haven't bought PCGamer in a long time, maybe only bought once in the past year I think, but I will certainly be picking up this issue, thanks for the info Jorsh!

JrKASperov 07-26-2004 06:38 AM

Ugh, if BG3 will be made, it's probably by ATARI.... UGGHHH

Xen 07-26-2004 06:50 AM

Thanks for the info. We can only hope ...

Link 07-26-2004 07:14 AM

6666 posts Xen ;) Although not the number of the beast, it sure looks evil enough :D

On topic: I sure hope that IF they make a BG3 and NWN2 it will be a very good or at the least worthy successor!!

Ziroc 07-26-2004 07:32 AM

I remember those thick mag days! God, now the mags are thin as hell, and 40% of that thickness is because of the insert cardboard ad's and foldout game ads. Sad indeed.

It's because ad sales suck right now--on the Internet and hardcopy. :(

Hank Parsons 07-26-2004 01:26 PM

Aren't they just referring to BG:DA 3?

The Offspring of Viconia and Edwin 07-26-2004 01:41 PM

Probably not, BG:DA is on PS2 and X Box. Be pointless for it to be in PC Gamer.

IranicuS 07-26-2004 06:09 PM

well That good news...hopes that ineed its like 1&2 and that the nieuw part would be a great place, say calimport or a place close to menzoberrenzan (coorect me if I spelled it wrong)..well actually it doesnt matter where as long it comes:D

Link 07-27-2004 07:47 AM

I'm still hoping that Baldur's Gate 3 will be some sort of prequel to the Baldur's Gate series. Playing with Gorion (or someone close) in the Time of Troubles. Should be awsome

JrKASperov 07-27-2004 09:05 AM

Hey Link, that IS an awesome idea! :D

Dundee Slaytern 07-27-2004 09:13 AM

Gawds, I would prefer a story where you play as Sarevock and find out how he rose to power from a infant Bhaalspawn all the way to Baldur's Gate!

IMAGINE! Playing an EVIL character for once! A BG game that REWARDS you for being EVIL!

JrKASperov 07-27-2004 09:19 AM

Only to die at the hands of Abdel, the 'sellsword'.

Jorsh 07-27-2004 09:38 AM

I wouldn't like to play as Sarevock or Gorion. The thing I like about playing Baldur's Gate and all the role playing games I have is the scope of different characters you can play. Sure being Sarevok would be fun to play, but once you beat the game you won't be able to go back and play a mage or a bard or something. You're just stuck with the same evil figher guy. Same thing with Gorion, but a prequel would be awesome to play, if you could make your character like in the other baldur's gates.

Link 07-27-2004 10:05 AM

I didn't mean playing WITH Gorion as in being Gorion yourself, but more like that you meet him and get involved in his Harper business. And of course, the whole Bhaalspawn saga isn't the only thing that happens in that time; we see other gods getting killed, Cyric ascending to godhood, the imprisonment of Waukeen etcetera.

Dundee Slaytern 07-27-2004 10:13 AM

Play as a lackey of Sarevock perhaps?

Link 07-27-2004 10:15 AM

Was that a question to me, or a remark from your side?

Nah. Once the AI launched Cloudkill your way, you'd be smart to step out of the vapors and have your entire party focus fire on the PC, ignoring other party members. Also traps would be placed more intelligently.

Hell, you'd have the option of fighting the PC in Candlekeep right after they exit the catacombs, spells, hit points, and bodies exhausted. Take 'em out while they're weak!

Better yet, you could ignore Gorion when you're playing Armored Figure and instead have the party focus fire on the PC. You win in five minutes.

Forscythe 07-27-2004 01:03 PM

Wow there goes my spare time! I did'nt think BGIII was ever going to be made.

Well i guess you can't stop greatness!!

I hope It will be Fully 3D!!

Dace De'Briago 07-27-2004 01:41 PM

Yarr. I imagine it will be in NWN style. I can't see the creators going for the whole Morrowind-esque 1st person style.

Hank Parsons 07-27-2004 05:09 PM

Glad to see the optimism here, but I am the only one who thinks there will never be a game that *we would call* BG3? There could be some game with that title, but I predict it will be more sucky like Dark Alliance -- more arcade, not a story-based RPG with NPC's and dialog. You heard it here first??

Wow that's a great idea. I'd love to play with Sarevok on his quest for power ;)

Andraste 07-27-2004 06:06 PM

I'd think what I'd like to see is something which gives a bit more scope to role-playing from a good/evil angle. I've never role-played evil, because it doesn't seem to fit the story. The evil options always feel like half-assed bolt-on afterthoughts.

How about a plot along the lines of:

There is a powerful source of good magic (the soul of a solar?) that has allowed a small kingdom to become very wealthy. The good queen has just been usurped and imprisoned by an evil villain. Your hero arrives and has the options:

Lawful good: Gain allies to overthrow the baddy and reinstate the good queen. Win condition - become the queen's champion for life.

Lawful evil: become the baddy's henchman until you are in a position to assassinate him. Win condition - make yourself ruler (the ultimate for lawful evil as I see it - everyone should obey the laws because you’re the one deciding what the law should be)

Chaotic good: seize and discharge the source of magic so that a blessing is bestowed on everyone within 10 mile radius (healed, plus 1 on all stats, shift in alignment to good etc.). Win condition - go down in history as a saint

Chaotic evil: seize and discharge the source of magic so as to gain all the benefit for yourself. Win condition - turn yourself into a demigod.

True neutral: free the queen but leave the king in control. Send the solar's soul back to where it came from, because something that good can't exist in the world without tipping people around it towards evil - e.g. greed. Win condition - gain the reputation for being incredibly just and wise.

Having five totally different outcomes would also lend itself to replaying with different classes.

Thrain 07-27-2004 06:10 PM

i agree with hank. a new take on the baldur's gate series as we know it in all its glory would be difficult to pull off.

my guess is baldur's gate III will end up like DA.....or even IWD (though that wouldnt be so bad) and have little to no story to it.

Neo Duelis of Ra 07-27-2004 07:00 PM

I don't think that BG3 would ever be the same as BG2...I actually prefer the graphics in BG2 over NWN. I have no idea why...oh well, there is still a ray of hope anyway.

No, wait a minute, that's a stupid idea.

LOoooOL!!!...but I agree, the BG3 style should be like 1&2 and I hope that they won't do like Dark alliance or NWN that you can play only alone without other NPC's. That is one of the best aspects of BG

Noodle 07-29-2004 03:10 PM

Erm, I didnt notice anything in the PC Gamer i just recently got about BG3, i think it was the sept issue....either that or aug, crap if i can remember, but i think it had something about splinter cell, anyway, I know what you mean Ziroc, I remember one issue a while back with a Duke nukem 3D cover, I compared it with the last one i got, took about 3 of this one to make it up, also i remember my favorite issue ever, The 1998 Strategy one, with the shrine list for Diablo, and the cheats for Blood!

Sir Goulum 07-29-2004 11:08 PM

I wouldn't get my hopes up for BGIII, if they make it, as it wouldn't be made by Bioware. Whoever makes it will probably turn it into some shoddy hack n' slash thing. :(

Noodle 07-31-2004 03:56 PM

If you guys haven't gotten it yet, the september issue has NO info on BG3 or NWN2. Oh and the cover was Doom3 not splinter cell...splinter cell was on GI(i get too many mags...)

Six Shooter 08-04-2004 03:33 PM

I really hope there will be a BG3, but I just don't think it will ever come. After Throne Of Bhaal was released they said there wouldn't be another BG and I believe that. If there will be a third part then I doubt it will be as good as the first two, since there isn't much to add, and it won't be made by Bioware (sigh...). Oh, and btw. this is my first post.

JrKASperov 08-05-2004 10:59 AM

I don't want to bitch or anything, but Bioware messed up Neverwinter Nights too. So don't be proud that those guys made BG. Besides, they were too lazy to finish all the quests in BGII...

Link 08-05-2004 02:25 PM

I wouldn't call it lazy. I would call it "Having A Deadline That Won't Be Prolonged By The Production Agency".

What's the last game you remember that didn't suffer from that problem (i.e. having to get it to market before the technology is too old or the publisher pulls the plug)?

Maybe I should start a poll about that, though not necessarily in this forum.

Bozos of Bones 08-05-2004 02:57 PM

Far Cry, Warcraft III, Thief 3, Ground Control 1, 2... need I continue?.. Actually I can't continue.. well, you're mostly right. But I'll still be biting my nails 'till this is out

Maj 08-05-2004 03:42 PM

No matter how bad BG3 would be I'd probably still buy it. Anything with "Baldur's Gate" in the title I would just have to buy. But unfortunately I have very little hope in there being one.

Welcome Six Shooter!
