It will transform Edwin into Edwina. It'll take a while for the transformation to occur. From there, enjoy what happens to Edwin. Give him/her some time...a lot of time.

Did you really have to go and spoil like that? I'm sorry, but I don't think it was needed.. You can never unspoil someone, and it's such a fun quest...
Ah well.

sorry to interrupt but i have taken the Nether scroll and i have done the windspear hills, the cult of the eyeless witness,d'Arnise keep and niw i m going for the umar hills....how much longer should i wait?????????????????

teardropmina 04-17-2004 08:04 AM

well, NOT ALWAYS the case -- be careful what you said after Edwin got the scroll. Remember, Edwin is an arrogant wizard (though many find that attractive, still...); it's not wise to be bossy to him.

Ah well.

Balintherlas's question was about what it does, so I told him what it does by responding with a spoiler, plus I put spoiler tags.

You have to wait about 4-7 days, IIRC.

<span style="color: lightblue">He did not specifically ask for a spoiler. You could easily have answered the question by saying something like "Edwin experiements a bit with it, and eventually something happens. Give it some time". A question almost never requires a spoiler answer, and it is usually best to assume that the poster does not want one.

CerebroDragon 04-18-2004 10:19 AM

Hmmm. A mere quick two minute search and Balintherias could have spoilt him/herself.
(Or maybe these lackeys didn't think of that) :D

If you decide to take on the cynical charms of Edwin (who is a sentimental favourite of mine) then just be wary of who you kill thoughtlessly. :D

He's a fantastic spellcaster and I reccomend him utterly.

Balintherlas 04-18-2004 10:24 AM

the spoiler was no problem here, thanks for the info

Q'alooaith 04-18-2004 12:06 PM

he's a no good cheating NPC, start's the game with an item which let's him memorise one extra spell per level, which can't be removed...

So he's got the potental to cast enough spell's to make a sorc turn green, well maybe not, but anyway, he's a great NPC to have tag along. has some great lines.

Zarr 04-18-2004 02:15 PM

Something else does happen to Edwin as well as what was discussed previously in the spoiler. A nice little bonus that alot of people don't seem to notice...

Would you mind telling us with a spoiler tag on? I've never noticed anything really.

teardropmina 04-18-2004 04:10 PM

I think Zarr might be referring to the first little "tweak" that scroll gives to Edwin, before the lady Edwin incident. If not, well, Zarr I've never noticed anything else either.

Okay here's what Edwin also gains
* EDWIN NETHER SCROLL SPOILER*

Once he reads the scroll and transforms into a woman he gains a quite big bonus to his lore. The bonus to his lore even stays if he is transformed back into a man. I find Edwin is very good at identifying items after this at about level 25 he could identify +3 weapons for me even though my other mages couldn't.

Nickzilla 04-19-2004 08:18 AM

So is it lore or INT which lets you identify items?

teardropmina 04-19-2004 08:20 AM

lore

drew_jarvie 04-19-2004 09:38 AM

But int and wisdom give bonuses to lore IIRC.

probably, but not that big a bouns it seems. Both Imoen and Aerie have highter lore than my 18INT/19WIS Sorcerer.

Not surprising, since Aerie and Imoen are both Mages. Mages get 3 Lore per level, whereas Sorcerers only get 1 Lore per level.

teardropmina 04-19-2004 01:27 PM

yeah, that's what I thought that even if INT/WIS gives bouns, it's not that great; the class of a character matters more.

Arcanis 04-20-2004 07:42 AM

if i become bossy to edwin when he got the scroll i am not going to expirience the rest of the he's quest!

That "can't be removed" part carries a downside, though (not saying it's huge, but it's there). He can't use the Amulet of Power, & I don't think there's any item in the game that he can use to get Negative Plane Protection, so Vampires can often have him hiking up his skirts & running away.

(yes, there's temporary solutions, like Negative Plane Protection or just not getting hit, but he can't benefit from the improved casting time, either)

Contains spoilers to those who may wish to discover this about Edwin for themselves:

Although this might not be completely relevant to the topic, I just thought it might be handy to note for those who may wonder of the fate of Edwina's gender, if like me, you may have thoughtlessly murdered what seems like the only 'in game' way of reversing the nether scroll's 'doings'.

In spite of what I did, I kept Edwina until the very end of SoA - and to my amusement, after the final battle with Irenicus, the party appears in 'the nine hells' and the old Edwin has seemingly returned! Strangely enough, he hasn't made any conscious referrences to the fact that he is no longer whining like an angry grandmother or indeed that his 'rack' is missing. :D

Good to have the ol' Edwin back. (Edwin do this Edwin do that, somebody give this jerk a banana!)
*sigh*. He's awesome.
